Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 309: Chapter 309 Scraping Therapy with Master

Vorquis’s profession was that of a Hero.

In most RPGs, Heroes are known to wield Holy Swords to defeat Demon Kings, with battle styles closely resembling warriors or Swordsmen.

However, many Heroes could also wield powerful Magic, and it was a grave mistake to view them solely as warriors or Swordsmen.

The world offered tremendous freedom, and the attributes of a Hero were quite balanced, basically without any apparent weaknesses. Yang Yu had every reason to believe that, should a Hero wish, they could become any Profession they desired and learn the Skills they wanted from those Professions.

As for the Holy Sword, in this world, it could likely take various forms and match the abilities of the Hero, rather than locking the Hero’s playstyle into a set pattern.

Currently, Yang Yu was unaware of the depth of Vorquis’s Skill pool.

This remained the sole variable that could affect Yang Yu’s victory.

The duel began, and Yang Yu crouched low, lowering his center of gravity, and stood still without any intention of attacking.

Seeing Yang Yu cowering in place without daring to advance, a mocking smile curled at the corners of Vorquis’s mouth as he brandished his sword and charged at Yang Yu.

Vorquis was extremely confident. The gulf between his and Yang Yu’s strength was one that could never be bridged.

Such characters didn’t require Skills, a mere Dragon Knight face-smash, a direct attack, was all it took to easily decide the outcome.

A light touch was all it would take for him to grind this careless young man into the ground, to utterly humiliate him in front of Miss Iyas, and to show her who truly deserved to be her partner.

Swinging his arm, Vorquis aimed a heavy cleave at Yang Yu’s chest.

Before the match, Vorquis had learned of the Library’s miraculous Barrier that allowed people to fight without fear of injury, to give their all, so he held nothing back, not worried at all about possibly going too far and causing fatalities.

If there were indeed fatalities, that would be the All Things Library’s responsibility.

But the scene of Yang Yu going down with one sword strike did not happen as Vorquis had imagined.

Shaking his body, Yang Yu simply stepped back a step or two and perfectly dodged Vorquis’s fierce strike, even giving Vorquis the illusion that he had swung his sword too early.

While laughing at himself for such a rookie mistake, Vorquis swung his sword at Yang Yu again, but this strike also soared past, almost grazing Yang Yu’s Shield without touching him at all.

A mistake once might be due to his own error, but twice could not be.

As Vorquis attacked, Yang Yu retreated just one or two steps, entirely avoiding his assault.

A brief hesitation could lead to countless openings.

Yang Yu shifted his footwork, thrusting his sword forward. Vorquis hastily attempted to defend with his sword, but Yang Yu’s attack twisted as if the space around it were distorted, finding its way through an extremely subtle angle into Vorquis’s chest.

Then, Yang Yu, as if jokingly, flicked his sword upward, lifting a pinprick of white light from Vorquis’s chest.

HP-1.

Even though Vorquis’s Defense was twice that of Yang Yu’s attack power, it was impossible that the damage dealt was merely a single point.

This was less of an attack and more of a Taunt—”I can pierce your heart whenever I wish.”

”You bastard! Don’t get cocky on me!” Vorquis roared as he parried Yang Yu’s sword.

The crisp sound of clashing metal echoed in the arena, with Vorquis and Yang Yu engaging in close-quarters combat. Initially, they seemed evenly matched, but the more powerful Vorquis gained a significant advantage after a few exchanges, thrusting towards Yang Yu’s chest.

Yang Yu crouched, stabilizing his center of gravity, and placed his shield in front, executing a ”Shield Block.” The Hero’s sword struck his thick shield with a resounding clang.

The weight of the impact made Yang Yu’s bones creak, yet he did not sustain the slightest injury.

”Using ’Skill’ to block? Futile struggle. I advise you to surrender now to avoid some skin-deep...”

Before Vorquis could finish speaking and retract his hand to deliver a decisive blow, Yang Yu struck back, stabbing the Hero in the abdomen and reducing the Hero’s stamina.

Although Yang Yu’s attack power wasn’t high, his frequency was exceptional.

A man’s pride could also be compensated for by the number of strikes.

One, two, three - each of Yang Yu’s attacks landed on Vorquis with strength and clarity.

Even if each of Yang Yu’s attacks dealt minimal damage, akin to scraping off scales, as the old saying goes, ’constant dripping wears away the stone.’ The accumulation of Yang Yu’s relentless attacks had already reduced the Hero’s Blood Volume by one-fifth.

More importantly, each of Yang Yu’s attacks carried momentum. If you didn’t look at the attribute differences but only at the scene, everyone would believe that Yang Yu had secured an absolute advantage.

Forced into a desperate retreat, Vorquis had no choice but to endure the damage inflicted by Yang Yu, using his sword to Block Yang Yu’s strikes and quickly creating distance.

Vorquis glared fiercely at Yang Yu, ”You despicable creature, didn’t you see I was speaking!”

”It’s match time, it was your own flaw that was exposed, it’s not my fault.”

With a mocking smile on his face, Yang Yu didn’t pursue the attack. In fact, he didn’t even move, standing still as a rock with his Taunting and ridiculing gaze undiminished. Instead, it grew stronger, as if to say, ”If you think you can, come and hit me!”

Honestly, Vorquis really wished he could pin Yang Yu to the ground and rub his face in the dirt.

Vorquis had never experienced such a situation. In the past, he would cripple his enemies with Thunderbolt speed, then enjoy the pleasure of slowly delivering the death blow; now, he found himself being toyed with by someone he overwhelmingly surpassed in every attribute.

It was like going out merrily to slay monsters and gain experience, only to have some wild beast leap out from the roadside, dodging endlessly until you were worn to death.

No, to be precise, that was exactly the sensation.

Vorquis already possessed a very high growth rate in speed, and even without using the Acceleration Skill, his speed was much faster than that of an average person.

But to him, Yang Yu seemed even faster.

In this world, the speed attribute becomes less noticeable in the late stages, unless one can break through certain fixed milestones, allowing the advantage of speed to gradually reveal itself.

Certain Acceleration Skills could momentarily breach one of these milestones, which is why many people feel such a significant increase in speed when using Acceleration Skills. It’s not an illusion; it’s the sensation of momentary lightness from breaking through a milestone.

Yang Yu often used ”Sudden Killing Intent” and had felt this sensation. He had also noticed a momentary flicker in his speed attribute. With Yang Yu’s ability to perceive sixty frames in a second, he could see his speed suddenly hit 999 before sharply returning to the post-acceleration value.

This indicated that the first milestone for a substantial change in speed perception was above 999.
