Chapter 284: Without the Identity of a Tycoon

”I’ll be counting on Assistant Lin’s care from now on,” Song Wei said with a soft laugh.

Good at talking, chatting, and flattering.

That was her first impression of Lin Zifeng—this woman was no simple character, knowing when to flatter someone was indeed not easy.

”Uh, well, just call me by my name. Otherwise, it sounds so awkward to me,” Lin Zifeng scratched his head and laughed awkwardly.

”How could that be okay? The company has clear rules on this, wouldn’t that create chaos?”

”If you feel awkward, from now on I’ll just call you Big Brother Lin, if that’s okay with you.”

”Hey, there’s no issue with that. Call me whatever you want; after all, a name is just a tag and mostly just a form of address. You can call me whatever you feel like; there’s no need for all these silly rules.” He really thought highly of himself, chatting up a storm with the two women, and soon everyone was getting along well, chatting and laughing together. However, to the male and female staff of the finance department, it seemed a bit odd.

This guy didn’t come to work at all; he was clearly here to flirt and shoot the breeze.

”Hehe, Big Brother Lin, you’re so articulate; I wouldn’t have guessed,” Song Wei, who had been acting all ladylike, threw in occasional compliments, and you couldn’t deny that they made Lin Zifeng feel rather warm and fuzzy. Unfortunately, her flattery was a bit misaligned—Lin Zifeng’s expression went blank, thinking to himself, ’Talented, huh? I’m more like a wolf.’

”Uh, hehe.” Ashamed but not showing it, he lowered his head and laughed dryly without responding.

Seeing her friend hitting it off with Lin Zifeng, Zheng Xiaofang quickly shifted her gaze, stepping forward with a seductive smile: ”Since everyone’s calling you Big Brother Lin, you should show some gesture of goodwill, right? You should act a bit like a big brother.”

Zheng Xiaofang indeed knew how to join wherever the excitement was, not missing out on any action.

”I really wasn’t prepared for this. I don’t even have a decent gift on me. How about, how about I make it up to you another day?”

”Oh, how could that work, make up? That’d be too impolite. How about this? You treat us to lunch today, how does that sound?”

Zheng Xiaofang must have been eyeing this meal from Lin Zifeng for days. When the topic of eating came up, Song Wei paused, quickly looking at Zheng Xiaofang, who just gave her a slight look and then fell silent.

In fact, they had already eaten just earlier.

”Sigh, I’m actually quite hungry. Work’s been so tiring; we should really treat ourselves. Come on, let’s go grab some food; my treat,” Lin Zifeng licked his lips. Since coming out in the morning, he hadn’t eaten a single grain of rice. He had hurriedly made a meal for those two ancestors at home this morning but didn’t get to eat himself before he left. Looking at the time, it was indeed mealtime. He figured he might as well take them out to eat. After all, having a meal with beauties was a joy others couldn’t even beg for, especially since he was invited by the beauties themselves.

”Let’s get one thing straight: since it’s your treat today, you better be prepared. Song Wei and I are both foodies, and I’m worried that you might not be able to foot the bill. That would be really embarrassing,” Zheng Xiaofang playfully pouted.

”Don’t worry, eat as much as you like, as much as you can,” Lin Zifeng laughed, thinking that no matter how much these girls might eat, they couldn’t possibly eat that much.

Especially since they were eating at Tianyu restaurant. Even if they chose the most expensive dishes, it wouldn’t cost much.

But Zheng Xiaofang and Song Wei chuckled in unison, ”Although we don’t have the identity of tycoons, we do have the spirit of foodies.”

”...!”

Lin Zifeng, clutching a cigarette, was suddenly stunned.

...

As the three of them lightly made their way into the restaurant, once again, envious and hateful gazes fell on Lin Zifeng. Why did he always have to receive disdainful looks every time he came for a meal? Lin Zifeng could only give a bitter smile.

No wonder, considering that the clientele of Tianyu Restaurant constantly changed, and with Tianyu being so large, housing tens of thousands of employees, plus him always dining with various stylists of beautiful women, it was natural to attract resentful stares.

A tall tree catches the wind after all, not to mention he appeared as a poor nobody in the eyes of others.

This time, as usual, he chose a seat by the window, ordered some home-style dishes, and the three of them ate and chatted leisurely—it was indeed a joyful occasion having beauty accompany one’s meal, where else could one find such a pleasure?

However, as they ate, trouble ensued.

Just as Lin Zifeng became engaged in their conversation, IT department’s Mu Yang somehow appeared behind him, arms crossed and wearing a grin as he observed them.

Zheng Xiaofang’s face instantly turned red across the table.

With a bewildered look, it would have been nothing unusual under normal circumstances, but Mu Yang was directly charging at him, Lin Zifeng.

”What’s wrong? Why aren’t you eating? Don’t you like the dishes?” Lin Zifeng raised his eyebrows seeing Zheng Xiaofang and Song Wei appear lost in thought.

He instantaneously became aware of the impending danger.

Quickly shifting his expression, he suddenly turned his head and squeezed out an awkward grin, ”Ah, what a coincidence, Manager Mu, haven’t you eaten yet?”

”Well, seems like someone is living the good life,” Mu Yang said laughingly, his words clearly laced with jealousy, as he stared at them intently.

”Oh? Manager Mu? When did you arrive? Have you eaten yet?” Lin Zifeng hastily changed the topic and smiled pleasingly.

”I’ve been here quite a while now, but it seems someone just didn’t care to notice,” Mu Yang crossed his arms and then glanced at the flustered Zheng Xiaofang and Song Wei, pausing for just a few seconds before turning his attention away from them.

He then turned to Lin Zifeng with a dry laugh, ”You’re a married man, coming here to pick up girls? Don’t you think that’s a bit unfair to your wife?” While saying this, it was obvious that Mu Yang was jealous. Just yesterday, they had agreed that Lin Zifeng would come to her house for dinner, she had prepared the meal and waited the whole night, without even a ghost showing up, which made the usually proud Mu Yang feel ignored.

When she saw Lin Zifeng dining with these two low-level financial department employees, a sudden wave of resentment swelled in her heart for no apparent reason. She couldn’t give face to herself—how could she dine and chat with low-ranking employees? Wasn’t this brazenly slapping her own face?

Furthermore, now that the security department knew about their relationship, if it got out, wouldn’t she, Mu Yang, lose face massively?
