Chapter 259: The Eve of the TV Blind Date Program

A group of security guards were staring at each other, big eyes at small. They had thought Lin Zifeng might bring them some spicy stories, but it turned out everyone had gotten excited for nothing.

They just couldn’t understand how, in a finance department teeming with beauties, Lin Zifeng could possibly have missed out on some romantic luck. Even Mu Yang, the head of the IT department whose work had no relation to the security department, had started something ambiguous. What else could surprise them?

Seeing their disappointed and deflated expressions, Lin Zifeng didn’t really care, so he pulled out cigarettes and handed them around to offer some consolation.

”By the way, where’s Jia?”

He had been at the security department for almost half an hour now, and Jia Zhenjing, who was usually very enthusiastic, hadn’t shown up yet. Lin Zifeng felt a bit off, perhaps missing the usual atmosphere.

”Jia’s recently registered online for ’If You Are The One,’ and now he’s so busy that he’s in the clouds one minute and in the fog the next. As soon as he enters the company, he asks us how he looks, acting like a turtle in a shell. I bet he’s off to the storehouse again to look at photos of girls on the computer,” Zheng Liang said honestly.

”Joining ’If You Are The One’? A blind date?”

Lin Zifeng was somewhat puzzled.

Could it be that this old boy still wanted to go on TV to find a wife through a blind date?

”Yeah, Jia’s become obsessed with this famous domestic TV dating program. A few days ago, he registered on Baihe website, and in no time, they approved his application. I guess they will be coming to interview him about his family and economic status soon. That’s why Jia’s been acting so busy lately. Usually, he would have gone out by this time and wouldn’t come back until the afternoon.”

”What does he go out for?” Lin Zifeng asked.

”Probably preparations. After all, he’s about to appear on a TV dating show. The issue of appearances is somewhat important.”

That was true; Jia Zhenjing’s face was such that it was painful to look directly at, and the security brothers genuinely worried for him. No wonder a man in his thirties still had no girlfriend— who knew the dirty little secrets behind that.

Moreover, the guy was about to go on TV for a blind date. The audience he’d face wasn’t something as simple as one or two people.

Lin Zifeng had heard about this dating show while he was abroad. It was said to be very popular.

But he didn’t have time to pay attention to such things. Besides, he wasn’t lacking in women. Why go through all the trouble to appear on a TV program?

”It makes sense. After all, ’Clothes make the man, gold makes the Buddha.’ In this materialistic era, if you don’t have some capital in hand, you’re under a lot of pressure in everything you do,” Lin Zifeng said, patting the tall Zheng Liang on the shoulder.

Then he turned to the security brothers and said, ”When Jia gets back, could you tell him something for me? Wish him the best in finding us a sister-in-law soon.”

Lin Zifeng chuckled.

”Sure thing, Brother Lin, you can count on me,” Zheng Liang waved his hand and readily agreed. Even though Lin Zifeng had been promoted to assistant financial director, he still held an honorary position in the security department. If he ever grew unhappy with his current job, he could always come back to his leisurely security guard post any time.

This was also something Nangong Bing had begrudgingly agreed to under Lin Zifeng’s sway. Since Nangong Bing had his own motives for placing Zifeng in the finance department, naturally, Zifeng wasn’t about to let himself be used as a mere pawn without getting something in return.

Seeing that it was now lunch break time, under the enthusiastic insistence of his colleagues, Lin Zifeng was dragged into the security office to watch the latest Japanese action movie. Despite Lin Zifeng’s repeated assertions that he was a gentleman, he only managed to draw everyone’s middle fingers and scorn, and under Lin Zifeng’s cigarette-pushing, each person clamped a cigarette in their mouth, staring with bulging eyes intently at the warfare unfolding on the computer screen!

Boy, those beasts almost burst the computer open.

Luckily, Lin Zifeng had actually backed out, otherwise who knows what disgusting things this group of beasts, going mad at the sight of female students, would have done.

After stepping out of the security office, Lin Zifeng didn’t leave immediately; instead, he took out a cigarette from his pocket and leisurely lit one for himself, reflecting on how time had flown. In the blink of an eye, it had been almost a month since he returned to his homeland.

In this past month, besides running errands for the two old ladies at home, Lin Zifeng really hadn’t taken the time to properly explore on his own. After all, five years is a long time for anyone, and how many five-year periods does one have to squander in life?

Thinking it over, since there was nothing to do this afternoon, he might as well go back for a visit.

See how Li Lin, the little lass, was doing now. He was supposed to visit her last time but was held up by some things. This time, he guessed he had to come up with a good excuse to appease and apologize to the girl.

Otherwise, he just couldn’t afford to lose face.

Taking a taxi, Lin Zifeng finally returned to his old house once again.

Lin Zifeng didn’t go in but stood outside for a while, silently lowering his head and pondering for a good while before pulling out his knockoff Nokia phone to dial Li Lin’s mobile number.

A few seconds later, Li Lin answered the phone, sounding quite excited.

She had not expected Lin Zifeng to actually call her. In her impression, Brother Lin was good at many things but was not particularly fond of pleasing women. All along, it seemed like he didn’t take many things to heart apart from brotherly affection.

She had thought Brother Lin would have come to her birthday the last time she asked, but Lin Zifeng ended up making an excuse not to go, which left Li Lin quite depressed for a while. Could it be that Brother Lin, who she hadn’t seen in five years, had changed?

Had he become a stranger?

Li Lin was a cheerful girl who, besides teaching at a middle school, spent most of her time enjoying romance dramas at home and occasionally dragging her close friends out for shopping, much like any ordinary girl nowadays.

As she happily rushed out to greet Lin Zifeng, her father stopped her. As soon as he heard Lin Zifeng had come, her father seemed somewhat displeased.

For him, his only daughter was all his hope. Being a laid-off worker, he hoped that his daughter could marry into a somewhat better family in the future, so both her and his later life would be improved; after all, many families harbor such a hope nowadays.

Moreover, Li Lin wasn’t lacking in looks or status compared to others.

But ever since Lin Zifeng returned from abroad, his precious daughter had been endlessly complaining at home, looking morose.

The usually cheerful her would inadvertently mention Lin Zifeng during conversations with her parents and even showed a particular interest in inquiring about Lin Zifeng’s family’s past.

This immediately made the smalltown mentality Li Tian suspicious.
