Chapter 258: Chapter 261: Hitting on My Daughter

Chapter 261: Courting My Daughter

”Oh, big brother Lin, don’t deliberately change the subject, I haven’t finished speaking yet.” Li Lin started to feel dissatisfied, pouting her cute little mouth and lightly pounding Lin Zifeng’s solid chest with her hand.

That look, that expression was just like a child acting spoiled in front of an adult.

”Haha, big brother Lin, if I don’t change the subject, you would make me embarrassed beyond redemption.” Lin Zifeng laughed heartily as he joked.

”Annoying big brother Lin, if you tease me again, I will ignore you.”

Li Lin complained with a pout.

”Alright, alright, it’s all big brother Lin’s fault, okay?” Lin Zifeng kept on apologizing with a smile.

”Hehe, that’s more like it, admitting your mistakes and correcting them is a quality that big brother Lin should have.”

Uh, what did I do wrong? What am I supposed to correct?

Lin Zifeng really had no way with her.

”Come on, big brother Lin, come over to my house for a bit. You’ve come from so far, you must be tired. Don’t go tonight, stay over and I’ll cook for you. Didn’t you always say my cooking was bad? Now, see my skills for yourself, I guarantee you’ll want to eat it over and over.”

Li Lin dragged Lin Zifeng’s hand to her house quickly. The scene of the two of them now, if seen by others, would surely raise eyebrows, especially those mischievous students of Li Lin, who always worshipped her as a goddess. To see Li Lin taking the initiative to hold a man’s hand in such an intimate manner, it would probably drive those problematic students crazy.

Seeing Li Lin grab his hand all of a sudden, Lin Zifeng was somewhat startled, subconsciously shrinking his hand back. But the young girl held on tight. She didn’t care what others thought. To her, Lin Zifeng would always be her dear big brother Lin.

Remembering the scene that happened last time he hastily visited Li Lin’s home, Lin Zifeng sometimes still felt a sense of dread when he thought about it.

Fortunately, Li Lin did not bring up the incident; otherwise, his face would probably turn red up to his neck.

When he followed Li Lin to her house, her mother was still as warmly welcoming as ever, starting with exchanging pleasantries and talking about some everyday family matters. However, Li Lin’s father, Li Tian, was much colder in comparison.

He had never been very fond of Lin Zifeng. Hearing last time from Lin Zifeng that he was now working as a security guard at a company in the city, Li Tian’s face sank immediately. In his eyes, beyond the personal favor of two hundred thousand, he didn’t take Lin Zifeng seriously at all.

Lin Zifeng didn’t mind. Since Li Lin’s father lacked a good impression of him, he wasn’t about to fawn over him. Letting things take their natural course wasn’t so bad.

He was a very pragmatic person, especially concerning the future partner of his daughter. As a father, he couldn’t help but consider her future, as a woman’s future achievements largely depend on the man she ends up entrusting her life to.

Males fear choosing the wrong profession; females fear marrying the wrong man.

In Li Tian’s eyes, unless the man held a stable civil servant job, anyone wanting to date his daughter would automatically be dismissed in his mind. At least it had to be someone with a stable job from the white-collar class.

But what Li Tian didn’t know was that Lin Zifeng was no longer that little shrimp earning a mere three thousand yuan a month. After all, now he was an assistant manager, making a stable ten thousand a month, not to mention that Tianyu Group always had high standards for employee treatment.

Especially for those in the white-collar class, the treatment was incomparably better than that of ordinary small companies, which was one of the reasons many Zhonghai City residents were desperate to get a position there.

Li Lin was well aware of her father’s little scheme, but she didn’t pay attention to her father’s dull points. Instead, she continued to pull Lin Zifeng into the room to chat. She asked Lin Zifeng what he had been up to these years outside, as she was very curious about his past and wanted to know what difficulties he had encountered during these five years to make him leave for so long.

Seeing his disobedient daughter pulling Lin Zifeng into the room, Li Tian was very anxious.

He was afraid that something might happen between them in the room.

After all, the young people nowadays are too open. Maybe just a spark would ignite a blazing fire, and then everything would be over. Looking at the situation now, this young man might be here to chase after my daughter.

After all, he was a man himself, and in his youth, he wasn’t exactly a ’good bird.’ No one probably understood men better than him.

Li Tian fretted, not knowing whether to go inside or stay out, walking back and forth in the hall with a cigarette in his mouth and his head hanging, racking his brains to find an opportunity to talk to Lin Zifeng.

But would that be too unkind?

Besides, Lin Zifeng still had 200,000 owed to him, which made Li Tian wonder what he would do if Lin Zifeng pressed for the money now in frustration.

Seeing the old man Li Tian pacing around with a cigarette in his mouth and his head hanging low, Li Lin’s mother could hardly stand it anymore.

”Look, Linlin, what are you pacing for? You’re making my head spin. If you’re really that idle, go buy some groceries. Zifeng is having dinner at our place tonight. Remember to buy more meat; the kid has gotten so thin, it breaks my heart to see him like this,” said Li Lin’s mother.

Li Lin’s mother, a school teacher, had always been kind to Lin Zifeng. Not only was he handsome and of good manners, but she had also managed to raise such a beautiful daughter, which made others envious.

”Enough of that, buy groceries? What groceries? My mind is a mess right now, just let me be and do what you have to do,” Li Tian was obviously quite upset.

Just hearing about buying groceries to entertain Lin Zifeng that evening made him feel a sour imbalance inside.

”What’s gotten into you? It’s just going to buy some groceries, do you have to look so upset? The kid finally comes back once in a great while, his parents aren’t here, and as neighbors for several decades, isn’t it too much to ask you to look after him? How can you be so cold-blooded, especially when he still has 200,000 with you?”

Li Lin’s mother was also getting upset.

As a schoolteacher who had always taught others to provide help during tough times to the best of their abilities, she couldn’t possibly go against her own principles of raising the younger generation today.

Especially considering Lin Zifeng’s background, which truly invoked her sympathy. A tragedy a few years ago had shattered a perfect family overnight. His parents vanished without a trace, leaving behind him, just a young man stepping into society. How could one not feel sympathy for him?

While his peers were still in school, enjoying their youth, he had traveled far away from home alone in search of his parents. Five years had passed, and one could only imagine how hard those years had been.

Especially considering the money Lin Zifeng sent home every year over the past five years for Li Tian to look after his family’s old house, yet this old guy had secretly pocketed Lin Zifeng’s hard-earned 200,000.

Fortunately, Lin Zifeng hadn’t made a big fuss upon returning, and he hadn’t mentioned the money at all. Now that he had finally come back, how could he bear to treat him like this?

”You...!”

Li Tian was stung by the criticism, glaring back at Li Lin’s mother, but her stern look made him cower. It’s hard to believe how a man like Li Tian, who loved a quick buck, managed to woo Li Lin’s mother back in the day.
