After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 343: Chapter 344 She Also Has Someone in Her Heart

Luo Xiaoqian just assumed she was shy and walked up to her with a smile, ”Which is your bed, can I sleep with you?”

The little girl hung her head and shook it.

”Her bed is over there!” another girl blurted out.

Luo Xiaoqian followed the direction the girl was pointing and saw an old quilt mended with patches on the lower bunk not far away.

”Haven’t you already been given quilts?” a female staff member accompanying them asked in confusion.

Apart from the school buildings, Emperor View had also funded all the necessary supporting facilities, which naturally included bedding.

”I...” the little girl edged back uncomfortably, her feet in old shoes, ”It’s too cold at home, I took the quilt back for my mom to cover.”

”This one will do just fine too!” Luo Xiaoqian crouched down and comfortingly patted her head, ”Tonight, we’ll use this one, I heard, you know, the older the quilt, the warmer it gets.”

”Really?” the little girl lifted her face anxiously.

In her eyes, Luo Xiaoqian saw a familiar humility.

”Really, sister won’t lie to you!” Luo Xiaoqian nodded earnestly.

Everyone found their spots, and Luo Xiaoqian joined the little girl at her bed, carefully spread out the quilt, and took out her own jacket to place on top of the blanket.

The quilt was old, but it was very clean and seemed freshly sunned, carrying the scent of the sun.

The two chatted under the quilt, and Luo Xiaoqian inquired about the girl’s circumstances, learning that her surname was Zhou, her name Xiaomei, her father had an accident while working away, and now only her mother was at home, feeling a natural compassion for her plight.

The girl fell asleep gradually in her comfort, but Luo Xiaoqian, listening to the wind and rain outside, just couldn’t fall asleep.

On the highland rainy night, the temperature was low; one broken quilt couldn’t really keep warm.

In the dark, listening to the night rain, she naturally thought of him.

She wondered if he had resolved his issues, and hoped at this hour, he wasn’t staying up working again?

Within her arms, the little girl began to toss and turn restlessly; Luo Xiaoqian thought she was cold and hurried to pull the quilt up for her, but when she accidentally touched her face, it felt burningly hot.

Pressing her hand against the little girl’s forehead, Luo Xiaoqian instantly sat up in alarm.

”Xiao Mei, what’s wrong?”

”My stomach, it hurts so much...” Zhou Xiaomei said weakly.

”Where does it hurt?” Luo Xiaoqian asked quickly.

”Here...” Zhou Xiaomei held her stomach, pressing on her lower right abdomen.

Yu Tong, awakened by the commotion, shone her cell phone over, and only then did Luo Xiaoqian notice that Zhou Xiaomei’s face was as pale as paper, with a thin sweat that had dampened her hair.

Luo Xiaoqian scrambled out of bed, ”Quick, get Doctor Song over here!”

Yu Tong hurried to call someone from the boys’ dormitory downstairs, and Xiao Zhou had already jumped out of bed, lighting a candle.

In a moment, the driver who stayed in the boys’ dormitory arrived with Doctor Song accompanying him. After checking Zhou Xiaomei’s abdomen, Doctor Song started looking for medicine from the medical kit while urgently saying, ”It’s acute appendicitis, she must be taken to the county hospital for surgery right away. I’ll give her a shot to bring the fever down. Xiao Li, go start the car and pull up to the door!”

Yu Tong busied herself helping Zhou Xiaomei dress, while Luo Xiaoqian draped her jacket over the girl, and Xiao Zhou grabbed a quilt. Together, the three of them rushed downstairs and lifted Zhou Xiaomei into the van.

”Xiao Zhou, you stay and take care of the other kids; we’ll follow along!”

Luo Xiaoqian took the quilt that Xiao Zhou was holding and also hopped into the vehicle.

In the torrential rain, the van roared out of the school gate and onto the road.
