After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 240: Chapter 241 Consoling Him [7]

It’s over, it’s over, how could he have heard?!

”I...” Luo Xiaoqian pinched the grass she had just plucked and stood up, ”I was... joking with my mother-in-law.”

Leng Zimo smiled, reached out to grab her wrist, and pulled her hand over. He discarded the grass in her hand and frowned at the green stains on her palm.

”Come with me!”

He pulled her along with large strides, continued down the stone-paved path, and led her to a stream hidden by green trees.

Luo Xiaoqian immediately shook off his hand and went to wash her hands by herself.

Watching her crouch by the stream to wash her hands, Leng Zimo’s gaze casually swept around, noticing a familiar figure on the distant stone steps. He frowned slightly.

”What are you looking at?”

Luo Xiaoqian shook the water off her hands and walked back to his side, curiously following his gaze.

”Let’s go the other way.”

Again, Leng Zimo took her hand and led her across a small stone bridge over the river, quickly descending the mountain along an alternate trail. His steps seemed urgent.

Luo Xiaoqian’s gaze swept over the several figures on the mountain path they had taken up, and suddenly she understood—he was avoiding someone.

The two paths were far apart, and it was unclear who the other party was; only that their tall figures, obviously well-trained, surrounded an older man.

The man’s face was not visible, revealing only his white hair and erect back.

During her days in the hospital, she had heard some of the gossip from the nurses.

She knew that Leng Zimo’s family background was extraordinary, his father seemed to be a formidable figure. Could it be that this man was his father?!

She had been with him for so long and it seemed he never mentioned his family, let alone going home to visit.

Just now, seeing the care he took in wiping his mother’s tombstone, their relationship must have been excellent. But as for his father, it seemed he had reached the point of not even wanting to see him.

Glancing at Leng Zimo’s profile, Luo Xiaoqian was very curious but consciously refrained from asking.

Her gaze rested on his tightly pursed lips and saw his face clearly marked with a touch of loneliness; she reached back and grasped his hand with her fingers.

Having experienced the consecutive loss of her parents, she understood his feelings at that moment more than anyone else.

Feeling the strength of her fingers, Leng Zimo turned his face to look at her.

Luo Xiaoqian, however, was oblivious, continuing to descend the steps one by one.

”Most families have a strict father and a kind mother, but it was just the opposite in our family. When I was little, my mom always forced me to play the piano. As a child, I would inevitably be lazy, and if I didn’t practice enough, my mom would punish me by making me stand, not allowing me to eat until I had practiced for a certain time. My dad also worked with the Military and was often not at home. Afraid that I would starve, every time he came home he would secretly buy me snacks. Back then, I always thought my mom wasn’t a good mother and even called her a bad mother in anger once...” Luo Xiaoqian sniffled, remembering her ignorant younger self, ”Later, when my mom was on her deathbed, she even apologized to me. Now, every time I play the piano, I think of her. If it hadn’t been for her strictness back then, Luo Xiaoqian would not be who she is today...”

Leng Zimo listened silently to her narration.

He knew she was trying to comfort him.

”I know, her love for me was in no way inferior to my father’s. I really regretted it at the time, regretted some of the words I had said, some of the things I had done...”
