High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2999: Chapter 12: Causing Trouble

Zheng Susu tugged at the wide hood over her head, hiding her head more securely, her large eyes scanning eagerly left and right.

This is the Wandering Bar.

It is also the place repeatedly forbidden by the maids in the mansion for them to approach— in the words of Su Man, the head maid, this shop is the cesspit of Buji Island, filled with the most foul-smelling dregs of the entire island— it’s hard to imagine the usually prim, etiquette-conscious head maid speaking such atrocious words.

This only made several little ones, including Poseidon, even more interested in it.

After two years of integrating into the Wizard World, the Great Elves gradually shed their past innocence and social anxiety, picking up some ’bad’ habits from the young wizards, such as curiosity, recklessness, and deceit.

Just like today.

Zheng Susu was able to come to the Wandering Bar because Li Meng helped cover for her— at this moment, she was supposed to be in the D&K attic across from the bar, catching up on lessons with Su Yi, Su Shuang, and Poseidon, but unfortunately, their tutor, Li Meng, who always defied authority and rules, waved his hand and permitted the Great Elf’s adventurous journey.

Zheng Susu was leading the charge today.

If today’s reconnaissance goes well, she won’t be coming alone next time.

Drunken fireflies wobbled past the Great Elf’s eyes, casting uneven spots of light. The light around was not strong, yet it made Zheng Susu feel inexplicably dazzled.

The atmosphere in the first-floor lobby was not as noisy as imagined, instead, it was exceptionally quiet. Most of the guests were cloaked in black robes and wide hoods, concealing their faces completely. However, the peering gazes hidden under this peace felt as uncomfortable as the bar’s lighting.

The Great Elf took a light breath to muster courage and walked towards the bar counter.

”A cup of Sea Monster Langmu!”

Zheng Susu hopped onto a high stool and, following Li Meng’s instructions, knocked the wooden bar table with her knuckles, pretending to be mature. Although she tried her best to remain calm, her slightly shrill voice still attracted unfriendly stares around her and a suspicious look from the bartender.

Behind the bar.

A Multi-arm Tribe Attendant wiped a glass, took out a large blue bottle from the liquor cabinet, dropped an ice cube into the glass, and said slowly while pouring, ”One copper coin, please... Are you of age?”

The latter question was something he didn’t originally need to ask.

But the tender fingers of the Great Elf as she took the cup evoked a touch of goodwill in this seasoned bartender from the Multi-armed Tribe.

However, in the Wandering Bar, this kind of goodwill was destined to go unrewarded.

”—Since when does the Wandering Bar care about whether the customers are of age or not?” Nearby, an elderly wizard with a hoarse voice chuckled, revealing a mouthful of black teeth.

”Of course, they don’t care, I just wanted to remind, Green Bee’s taste is more suited for youngsters than Sea Monster Langmu,” the bartender behind the bar laughed helplessly: ”—By the way, do you know what we’re doing here?”

He glanced at the Great Elf.

”Of course, it’s the black market on Buji Island.”

Zheng Susu boldly patted her chest, revealing a small section of her tender wrist, making every effort to appear mature: ”—I’ve been making voodoo dolls to sell since I was five.”

This statement couldn’t be deemed false.

Because she wasn’t yet five this year, no one could deny that at five she wouldn’t go making voodoo dolls.

Unfortunately, this answer not only failed to enhance her credibility but also attracted more and more ’fish’ who noticed the bait. Almost simultaneously, five or six tables of guests in the lobby got up and moved toward the bar.

”—What are they going to do?” A black-robed wizard of short stature, seated by a booth near the wall not far from the bar, whispered to his companion, his tone tinged with concern: ”This is Buji Island...”

”The Wandering Bar is the Wandering Bar, Buji Island is Buji Island, the First University is the First University, you must differentiate between these,” his companion slowed his speech, solemnly reminded, then diverted the conversation: ”Didn’t you want to see how black wizards do business? Today, luck is in your favor, you can see a fat sheep entering the store...”

”Fat sheep?”

”Those are young wizards with no experience at illegal trading, who come naively to the Wandering Bar for adventure. Most of them are students from the school... Don’t worry, the black wizards doing business here in the Wandering Bar aren’t fools, they won’t harm students or provoke the school. But by taking advantage of those kids’ innocence, playing tricks like forced buying and selling, scams, counterfeit goods, etc., is still within the school-tolerated range. As long as it’s not excessive, the school doesn’t mind letting students experience a bit of real society and the harshness of nature during their academic years.”

The diminutive black robe took a small sip of Amber Light to calm his nerves.

In front of the bar.

The Great Elf had just taken a small sip of Sea Monster Langmu and was already feeling a bit woozy, entirely unaware of the unfriendly black wizards surrounding her.

”—Remember, don’t go overboard, don’t cause trouble for the manager.” The bartender behind the bar gave a brief reminder, turned around, and went in another direction, focusing on out of sight, out of mind.

A few black robes exchanged looks, and eventually, the witch sitting closest to the Great Elf was given priority.

When the Great Elf took another small sip of Sea Monster Langmu and put down her glass, her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of the guest beside her lamenting over a worn parchment. She noticed there were some very obscure runes on it, seemingly part of an unfamiliar spell.

”What are you looking at?” The Great Elf asked very politely.

”None of your damn business!” The guest appeared very impolite, defensively covering the parchment in front of them.

The Great Elf recalled one of Li Meng’s previous teachings and ventured, ”—How about I buy you a drink?”

The guest seemed a little tempted: ”Even so...”

”Excuse me! Another cup of Sea Monster Langmu! For this lady!” The Great Elf knocked on the table emphatically.

”I want Amber Light!” There was a hint of longing in the witch’s voice.

The Multi-arm Tribe Attendant, with a sullen face, tossed a cup of Green Bee in front of them, saying coldly, ”Only Green Bee left... ten copper coins.”

”...What were you just looking at?” The Great Elf, oblivious, couldn’t resist asking, thinking about the spell.

The witch drank half her drink in one go, wiped her mouth, then chuckled, ”—Well, my grandfather was a Big Wizard and left some magic notes. But I can’t understand much of the content. I heard you can often encounter top students from the First University in Beta Town, so I came to try my luck... Look, this is an alchemical secret recipe at the Great Wizard level, these words...”

She pushed the parchment slightly towards Zheng Susu as if to show her the position of those words.

The Great Elf eagerly reached out to grab it, only to find the other didn’t release it immediately, and the parchment, seemingly buried in the soil for hundreds of years, was already fragile. She applied just a slight force, and it split into two.

Rip.

The slightly shrill sound was particularly jarring in the quiet lobby.

The Great Elf was instantly dumbfounded.

The owner of the parchment exclaimed, dropped her glass, and began to wail. However, her cries appeared exceptionally singular in the Wandering Bar, leaving only the flustered ’perpetrator’ and a group of silent onlookers.
