High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2984: Chapter 28: Nikita (Part 2)

Forest clearing.

Under the dark clouds.

The young hunters can retreat to the safe zone, but Nikita dares not move.

She can clearly feel that the destructive aura is firmly locked onto her, as if any slight movement would trigger the thunder accumulated in the clouds above to crash down like a waterfall.

At the same time, she can also clearly feel that the teacher’s gaze, though falling upon her, is looking into somewhere deeper within her.

She knows where that is.

So she dares not move even more.

However, being unable to move doesn’t mean she can’t speak.

”—You can feel it, right? You’re just bait.”

The female demon glanced in the direction where the young hunters retreated. Her intuition was frantically warning her, making her anxious, but her speech slowed down instead: ”The school knew my situation long ago, but still released you, clearly with bad intentions... even the most clumsy diviner can detect the oddities in this.”

The cloak, with its last hint of red hue, seemed to have a deep base that continuously devoured the light in the air, making the small clearing increasingly silent and quiet.

Nikita understands the wisdom of moderation, so no matter how anxious she feels, she dared not say more.

A second, perhaps ten minutes.

After a brief but lengthy wait, Teacher Zhou finally spoke again.

”—So, what of it?”

Her eyes stare emptily at the female demon’s face, seeming to want to see the deepest part of its soul. Her voice no longer carried the previous gentleness and sorrow, beginning to sound indifferent: ”Even if it’s the school’s divination group’s ploy, what of it? Even if I’m bait, what of it? Even if I’m used as a hunting dog to capture you, what of it?”

The female demon opened her mouth intending to say something, but ultimately closed it despondently.

Yes, it is already like this, so what of it?

After a brief silence, the indifferent voice once again echoed in the forest, like a cold spring streaming, soaking her with coldness:

”...You know there’s a place in this world that’s great and beautiful like heaven, but the condition is you can’t really go there, because once you do, it ceases to be beautiful. So that beautiful place, you can never go to, only then is it truly beautiful... I’ve always believed, when we meet again, you’ll restrain yourself, and Zhou will run to me with a smile. I know this possibility is small. But isn’t magic about creating miracles? In each of our worlds, we all feel we’re the protagonist... and aren’t protagonists good at creating miracles?

So I pray every day, pray for the miracle to descend.

One day, two days.

One month, two months.

One year, two years.

Until now... you appeared before me nonchalantly, your eyes already blood-red.

Ha.

Reality tells me, there are no miracles in this world... when I realized this fact, the instant guilt made me want to kill myself and destroy everything. What did I do? Sent my child to hell... I wish I could disappear from this world completely. Every minute and second I remain here feels like an eternal and long-lasting despair in hell. But when I look at you, I know I can’t just walk away.

I need closure.

You need closure.

Zhou, too, needs closure.

If I cowardly escape alone, what happens to Zhou? What should she do? In this world that devours people, she’d have no hope left alone.

So for everyone to be relieved, let’s go die together.”

The near-black hem of the robe rose high, powerful magic fluctuations burst out waves visible to the naked eye in the air, instantly turning the closest trees to dead wood.

The little demon Zhuzhu clings to the leg of the big female demon, trembling.

At the critical moment, Nikita screamed: ”—She wasn’t sent by you into hell! She was already in hell, don’t you remember she was infected before being taken away?”

The black clouds rolling overhead paused slightly.

For the first time, the vacant gaze turned to the female demon, with eyes like tangible ice-cold swords that stunned her.

”What did you say?”

”I mean, I said, Zhou was already infected, destined to fall into becoming a demon! It’s not your fault!”

The female demon took a deep breath, gritting her teeth, speaking the suppressed words hidden within her heart for a long time: ”—You didn’t want her to die, so you let me take her away, right? No! You just didn’t want to watch her die in front of you, so you let me take her away! Just like me, the moment she was infected, her future was doomed to be dark! I didn’t take her into hell! When we stepped on the doorstep of hell, there was no turning back! I want to live! She wants to live! You wanted us to live... don’t you remember? When I came to you seeking survival, what did you say? Why did you want us to live then, but now want us to die? Just because only one of us survived? And the survivor isn’t your daughter?”

After a compelling cathartic outburst.

Nikita suddenly felt a trace of calmness within, the body trembling initially gradually stabilized.

She looked at the equally dazed teacher opposite her, the voice of a little girl whispered in her ear repeated—If we can’t live together, then let us live together.

A hint of guilt crossed her eyes, murmuring in a low voice: ”—Sorry, I just wanted to live... I didn’t want that either.”

The black clouds no longer rolled.

Just layer by layer pressing down slowly.

The trees around the clearing died one after another, and in the distance, where sunlight could still be seen, dazzling bright stars twinkled, and Nikita could clearly feel the magic fluctuations of the Great Wizard Level from those bright stars.

They really look up to me.

She mocked herself internally, that to encircle a little monster like her required so many Great Wizards, was this regarded as an honorable death? Arriving at this stage left nothing to tie her down, she closed her eyes slowly.

Whew!

The witch undergoing transformation exhaled a long breath, her indifferent gaze directed at the sky, speaking lightly with a sigh: ”Yes... you just wanted to live. It was like this before, and still the same now. An excessively strong will to survive for defeating death has turned you into a slave of desire.

Do you know the story of the farmer and the snake? The farmer saved a frozen snake, but when the snake revived, it bit the farmer, saying it’s its nature, it couldn’t help it. Thinking carefully, everyone has their own seat, they’re also that frozen snake...”

Her voice stopped abruptly at this point.

The black clouds that were pressing down also instantly froze in mid-air.

Crack.

She stepped forward, crushing the frozen dead grass on the ground, leaving a footprint emitting a black aura, just like that, she slowly moved forward, step by step until she reached Nikita.

The former female demon had disappeared.

At Nikita’s position stood a barefooted, smiling little witch. She wore Nikita’s oversized, blood-red robe, with a hint of fear, a bit of shyness, and a touch of expectation, looking at the black-robed witch slowly walking toward her.

ps1, ah, ah, ah, over the syllabus again! Finally understood how I wrote these millions of words _(:з)∠)_ Nikita’s fate changed several times in these past two days, and I really can’t control her _(:з)∠)_ When starting to write her side story, it was expected to be two Chapters, a straightforward and decisive death...because everyone seems not fond of her, I also don’t want to continue getting cursed, making it once and for all... but she just won’t die ah ah ah _(:з)∠)_ despairing

ps2, in the volume of a generation, Zhou appeared in Chapter 225 with two little girls~
