High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2983: Chapter 27: Nikita (Part 1)

Her sadness was so intense that it broke through the confines of her body, beginning to permeate this small piece of heaven.

The deep cloud layers rolled over one another, stacking above the clearing as if piling up an ancient tombstone; pale frost began spreading from her feet in all directions; blades of grass withered one by one, patches of gray decay appeared on the bark, and in a short time, the lush greenery around the clearing vanished, leaves fell, the plants withered, even the air was filled with a sense of despair.

Even the dark red robe she wore deepened in color, almost turning black.

In stark contrast was the vitality of the magic aura surrounding her, lively like a flame dancing in icy snowfields, or like a long-dormant volcano starting to fume, as if the next second, blazing lava would burst forth.

Such a strange and contradictory feeling was intensely sensed by everyone present.

”—No, it can’t be true!”

Peter Greenspan stared dumbfounded at the scene, muttering instinctively, the apple soda in his hand falling to the ground with a clatter. In his scramble to pick it up, he realized that in just a moment, the Potion inside the ampoule bottle had turned dark green, clearly altered in nature.

It must be noted that these glass bottles containing Magic Potions are specially treated with magic dulling, extremely insensitive to external magic reactions, unless that influence has transcended the ordinary realm of Magic Power, touching the threshold of Law.

”—Impossible.”

Though not from an ancient clan, with a wealthy family background, Peter’s insights were naturally unique, easily discerning that the phenomena before him was not merely ordinary magic overflow, but stemming from some higher-level influence, such as advancing to Big Wizard, or perhaps a higher level?

The latter thought briefly flashed in his mind before he himself denied it.

Legend.

This is a concept that most wizards find elusive throughout their lives, not to mention advancing to Legend, even glimpsing that realm is an impossible feat. Theoretically, Teacher Zhou, as a seasoned registered wizard, couldn’t possibly ascend to Legend overnight, but presently, the control over and interference at the Law level exhibited by that ampoule bottle seems beyond what ordinary Big Wizards can achieve, doesn’t it?

Thus, his thoughts finally returned to the most likely possibility.

”—Advancing? At such a time?” the young hunter couldn’t help but moan softly, immediately looking worriedly and vigilantly at the female demon opposite the teacher, fearing she might interrupt the teacher’s opportunity.

”You all should retreat a bit further; I may not be able to control it.”

The perpetually gentle and mournful voice of the teacher reached the ears of the young hunters: ”—Retreat to where you can’t see me, then a bit farther... don’t worry about me. This is an order.”

Teacher Zhou was not only a schoolteacher but also the Hunting Team Leader and the responsible person for their practice assessment.

Her orders must be obeyed unconditionally by the hunters.

”Retreat!”

Another assistant in the hunting team, Violet gritted her teeth, repeating the captain’s order, but before retreating, she took one last look at the robe that had turned almost black, lowly adding: ”—You, hold on a little longer...”

The four retreated past the aura of sadness, where brilliant sunlight once again dappled the lush vegetation, finally stopping when they could no longer see the teacher and the female demon.

”Are we really doing nothing? Should I get an elder from my family involved, even if it means our practice fails?” Ani Black looked uneasily at the purple-haired witch, a trace of tension in his voice: ”I mean, in case the teacher’s advancement is interrupted by that female demon...”

”I have a Great Wizard level Moving Talisman!” Joan, who once served as the Hearts Q Hunting Team Leader, decisively took out her most cherished item, handing it to the purple-haired witch: ”—But I don’t know if it’s suitable for teacher’s current situation.”

”I have, I have too!” Peter came to his senses, frantically searching his pockets: ”I remember I have a dose of Life Potion, even a Great Wizard can be sustained...”

”Don’t bother looking.”

Violet stopped the busy young wizards, gazing deeply at the cloud-covered area, speaking softly: ”—That’s not advancement, it’s Dao transformation. We can’t do anything.”

Dao transformation?

The three young individuals froze upon hearing this unfamiliar term, their expressions dazed. It’s a concept known to be exceedingly dangerous by any wizard, yet few can clearly explain why or how it’s dangerous.

Even in the curriculum of First University, ’Dao transformation’ is often vaguely covered — because it involves certain inferences of ’Convergence Theorem’, where wizards’ knowledge of some concepts increases the chances of interaction with them.

In a way, the meme effect of ’Dao transformation’ is akin to concepts like ’Cognitive Obstructions’ or ’Starry Sky Pollution’.

Buzz!

The stirring waves of Magic Power disrupted the young hunters’ stupor.

Violet opened a scroll.

A sphere emitting faint golden light floated up from the scroll, then expanded, and in an instant, a Void Gate appeared in the clearing, a seal slanted across its surface.

The witch didn’t hesitate, tearing off the seal from the door.

As the Void Gate opened, before Peter could make out what lay beyond, figures clad in Black Robe emerged in succession, rapidly deploying what seemed to be a very complex battle array.

Although just a fleeting glance, he saw several familiar faces within, appearing to be assistants from the school?

An older warlock with graying hair glanced around, his gaze landing finally on the purple-haired witch, slightly furrowing his brow: ”Violet?”

Peter recognized him as Captain Zhang from the assistant team.

It turned out that the assistant senior had a backup plan! Perhaps the school added extra insurance fearing an accident during the students’ graduation practice, or perhaps it’s just the senior’s personal connections!

Regardless of the possibility, the young hunter felt immensely reassured.

Unlike his optimism, Joan had a puzzled expression because the newcomers’ aim seemed very clear, and they didn’t appear to be here to rescue — most notably, they deployed a kill array, not a Guardian Array.

”Teacher Zhou went out of control upon seeing Nikita, now undergoing Dao transformation. There’s also a Faceless Demon on site... Nikita’s Three-headed Black Flood Dragon bracelet is worn, extra caution is needed.”

The purple-haired witch succinctly explained the current situation, then paused, looking around, shaking her head slightly: ”—Just us here, we can’t control the situation over there.”

”We don’t need us to control.” Zhang Yu seemed unfazed by the term ’Dao transformation’, his tone carrying a hint of intrigue: ”—Besides, who told you this was our leading task?”

With his voice, heavy footsteps resonated from beyond the Void Gate.

Crack.

A sharp forepaw grasped onto the doorframe, revealing a slightly apprehensive head.

”Type One Edge!”

Ani Black gasped in surprise.
