Chapter 2992: Chapter 5: Fortuna’s Joke

Zheng Qing looked at the little witch in front of him, whose eyes were glowing, and silently sighed in his heart.

He was self-aware.

The little witch in front of him was not really attracted by his ’handsome’ appearance, but simply beguiled by magical power. Just like asteroids unconsciously orbiting around a star, moths uncontrollably flying towards a flame, or people looking up at a mountain foot, low-level wizards are prone to develop infatuation or admiration in front of high-level wizards, based on magical power worship. This is the attraction of high-level magic power to low-level magic power, and it is unrelated to the individual.

Ancient priests often used this characteristic of magical power to attract followers.

In modern times, apart from the reckless evil mages, the truly high-level wizards in the Alliance would actively restrain their own magical power in daily life, to avoid low-level wizards constantly coming to them, disturbing their study of magic.

As for Zheng Qing,

he was still a little registered wizard.

The high-level magic power spilling from him was the residue from harnessing Taiyi. He himself didn’t have the ability to disperse those magical powers, which is why he frequently encountered situations like this during this period.

”You can just point the direction.”

The warlock decisively refused the little witch’s suggestion to lead the way, though he couldn’t avoid facing her disappointed eyes; he knew it was the most appropriate way to handle it: ”——You can help take care of another pet for me. It probably hasn’t filled out an application form.”

A black kitten the size of a fist reluctantly climbed out of his hood and slowly jumped onto Jacqueline’s shoulder.

The little witch was surprised to find that she hadn’t sneezed.

”I’ll take good care of it.”

She muttered, muddle-headedly accepting the warlock’s arrangement, pointed him in the direction, and only realized the situation after the warlock’s figure disappeared from view, stamping her foot in annoyance: ”——Merlin Above, why did I foolishly agree?!”

The little black cat on her shoulder lazily yawned, stretched, and soothingly rubbed against her ear.

Meanwhile.

Zheng Qing clearly underestimated the complexity of this building.

After making a few turns and seeing a seemingly identical blue stone corridor in front of him, he silently stopped in his tracks, contemplating whether to go back and ask that little witch to show him the way.

”——Why not have that Black Gemstone Cat bring her here, rather than foolishly running back?” The Yellow Flowered Cat in his arms unceremoniously mocked the warlock’s plan.

”That Black Gemstone hasn’t fully taken shape yet and isn’t that smart,” Zheng Qing shook his head.

”Then what? Foolishly search hallway by hallway?” The Flower Cat let out a malicious laugh: ”——Or, you could just turn around and leave... after all, you’ve already been to Danghag.”

It always opposed Zheng Qing attending this damned hearing, feeling it greatly insulted the presence of legends. But Zheng Qing believed that the ’Order’ represented by ”The Code”, or rather ’rules’, was more important than the dignity of legends.

”I can be perfunctory with Danghag but not with my own heart.”

Zheng Qing seriously examined the lines from ”The Code” that appeared on the wall from time to time, calmly saying: ”——As for the destination, if we search hallways one by one, we’ll eventually find it.”

The Flower Cat snorted irritably, turned its head, flattened its ears, buried its head in its leg crook, and decided if it didn’t see something, it wouldn’t be bothered by it.

Fortunately, just as he was about to search the fifth corridor, two wizards appeared in front of him.

The one walking in front was a somewhat plump witch, wearing a robe with the Danghag scales symbol on her body, seemingly also leading someone. Behind her was a worried-looking elder wizard, emaciated like a large monkey, with an aura that was obscure and unclear.

When Zheng Qing discovered them,

the elder wizard also looked at him with a ghost-like expression.

”——Lost your way?”

The plump guiding witch greeted warmly—this old man’s just been scolded by a Legend, probably bringing a belly full of rage. Seeing the handsome warlock in front of her, she feared he might utter some inappropriate words and provoke the Big Wizard’s wrath. Thus, she proactively inquired before the warlock spoke—of course, by doing so, she also took a huge risk, hence her face, though smiling, was smiling apprehensively.

After all, I am the face of Danghag; this old man shouldn’t vent his anger on me, right? The plump witch anxiously thought.

But in the next second, a question from the nameless passerby almost took her breath away.

”Yes... Excuse me, how do I get to Solomon Hall?” The young warlock asked politely.

The plump witch frantically signaled the warlock with her eyes to change the subject.

Zheng Qing curiously observed her distorted expression—if this wasn’t Danghag, or if this witch was dressed a bit more lavishly, from that face that seemed like writing a thesis, he would have thought he encountered a kidnapping in broad daylight.

The atmosphere in the corridor suddenly plunged into an unsettling silence.

Perhaps it was only a few seconds.

But the plump witch felt as if centuries had passed, and she even closed her eyes, preparing to face the storm of anger from the Big Wizard behind her.

Click.

A crisp sound interrupted her wild thoughts.

Her eyes opened slightly.

The young warlock in front had somehow taken out a pocket watch, opened the case, glanced at the time, and perhaps noticing the witch’s gaze, he raised his head and, apologizing, smiled, ”——Sorry, I have a meeting, and I’m probably a bit late. Excuse me, how do I get to Solomon Hall?”

He worried the other might not have heard his question clearly, so he repeated it.

The plump witch was unable to hide her surprise and gave him a complex look.

She began to silently pray for him.

——So, this is Fortuna’s joke, right? The thought flashed through her mind that destiny always plays this malicious joke on innocent people.

——Fortuna, that bitch.

The elder wizard standing behind the plump witch silently cursed too.

He had been scolded by a Legend in front of Solomon Hall for mocking someone and expelled by a big figure from the Wizard Council. Yet now, someone was asking him how to get to Solomon Hall; the scene made him feel ridiculous and led him to suspect that perhaps those legends in Solomon Hall might have already seen the scene hence neglected the previous one.

”Follow this corridor, keep going forward, turn left, and at the second junction, you’ll see Solomon Hall.” The elder wizard quietly lowered his eyelids and answered the passerby’s question in place of the jittery clerk before him.

The plump witch could not hide the shock on her face.

”Thank you.”

Zheng Qing nodded politely, carrying his cat, leaving the strange duo with a belly full of doubt.
