High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2991: Chapter 4: The Lovestruck Little Witch

Jacqueline just turned twelve this year.

She is the niece of Janet, the receptionist at the Dan Hag Reception.

Despite her young age, she is already considered a ’veteran employee’ at the Dan Hag Reception. Dan Hag has many impromptu visitors every day. Since they don’t have appointments, not every pet these visitors bring can receive proper care. Jacqueline’s job is to help her aunt take care of some of the visitors’ pets temporarily.

Of course, this job is not officially recognized by Dan Hag; it’s just a side gig she ’contracted’ from her aunt, earning five coppers an hour for each pet she looks after.

For a child her age, this is a considerable side income, so she is particularly attentive in her work.

Today, some strange people in green robes visited the reception.

Her aunt took them to Solomon Hall.

Feeling bored, Jacqueline lay on the soft chair in front of the reception desk, drooping her eyelids, and languidly stared at the Brazilian turtle in the glass jar—it was left by an elder wizard who went in earlier and was her only chance to earn some pocket money today.

Approaching noon, it was the time with the fewest visitors at Dan Hag.

In a daze, Jacqueline vaguely heard a strange voice sounding in her ear: ”—Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to Solomon Hall?”

It was a young warlock.

The little witch hazily came to a precise conclusion in her heart, which was also an answer that didn’t interest her at all. After working at Dan Hag for a long time, she saw many kinds of visitors every day and had become well-versed, mastering many tricks within her job scope.

For example, elder wizards.

Elder wizards visiting Dan Hag always wore stiff and boring black robes, spoke deliberately, worked meticulously, and exuded a peculiar scent that seemed decayed yet full of vitality. Jacqueline didn’t like the smell on them, but these elders were the most generous customer group. Even if they carried a little lab mouse with them, the elders didn’t mind paying the pet care fee for it. Jacqueline always provided thorough and enthusiastic service to this group.

Then there are the witches.

This is a difficult group to deal with. Perhaps it’s because the witches visiting Dan Hag have bad tempers. They wouldn’t accommodate her because she’s a little witch. Instead, they are particularly nit-picky and always want her to provide the pet care fee regulations. If she can’t, they would certainly refuse to pay. For these witches, Jacqueline always tosses the ball back to her aunt and lets her deal with them.

As for warlocks, especially young ones, they almost never bring pets to Dan Hag. They talk and act hurriedly, as if a frantic Houdou is chasing them.

On a leisurely day, the little witch might have the mood to chat with them.

But now she was too sleepy.

The warm sun fell on her body, nestling her into the soft leather chair, making every cell in her body moan comfortably and refuse to respond to any insignificant matter.

Achoo!

The little witch hazily sneezed a big sneeze, and her muddled brain was forcibly rebooted, quickly waking up—an unprovoked sneeze? Is there a cat?!

Her eyes quickly focused.

With a snap, she bounced up from the table, looking toward the direction from which the voice had just come.

Sure enough, it was a young warlock holding a cat!

Jacqueline is allergic to cat fur, so cats are the pets she least likes to care for. But similarly, she wouldn’t let coppers slip away. A simple little trick, and caring for the cat wouldn’t be difficult at all.

”Unregistered pets need to pay a silver coin for the watching fee!”

She hadn’t even seen the warlock’s face clearly when she instinctively reported the reception desk’s official fee, then hesitated slightly, her gaze falling on the warlock’s ear, ”Um, is that little snake on your ear alive? If it is, it also needs to be registered as a pet... Achoo!”

She sneezed again, hurriedly took out her little spellbook, and cast a freshening spell on herself.

The tickling sensation provoked by the cat fur instantly vanished without a trace.

The little witch wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, then finally saw the owner of the cat and the snake clearly.

Perhaps due to the angle, the sunlight from the corridor’s side fell through the glass on the warlock, bathing him in a layer of dazzling color. He was holding a cat, a small snake on his ear, looking down at Jacqueline with a warm smile that was unlike anyone else’s in this hall, his eyes clear and bright.

Oh, it looks so comfortable!

The little witch had this feeling spring up in her heart.

”Where are you going?”

She unconsciously clamped her voice, softly asked.

”Solomon Hall, it should be in this building, right?”

The warlock patiently repeated his question, his expression carrying a trace of small embarrassment: ”Sorry, this is my first time here, I didn’t know... it’s so big here!”

Jacqueline’s little face instantly turned red, partly because she belatedly realized she had asked a silly question, and partly because when he spoke, that comfortable scent hit her, making today’s sun seem particularly dazzling.

”I’ll take you there!”

The little witch decisively jumped down from the high soft chair, stepped forward, approached the warlock, chatting enthusiastically: ”—Dan Hag is big, and the locations of each intelligent department are different, like treasures in the Minotaur Maze, scattered in the corners of these buildings. Even the elder employees who have worked here all their lives might not be able to accurately say the location of every room, let alone you new visitors... Um, did your cat register? Is its name on the application form filled before coming to Dan Hag? If not, it cannot enter with you and will be confiscated! What’s your name?”

The warlock looked down at the cat in his arms, doubting anyone at Dan Hag dare confiscate this master.

”Zheng Qing. My name is Zheng Qing.”

He reported his name, paused, and added: ”—I don’t know if it was registered, but I think it should be fine. If someone wants to take it away, let them.”

Chhh.

The Yellow Flowered Cat, lying in his arms, gave a loud snort, shook its ears disdainfully—confiscate it? As if they’d dare touch a hair of the great cat! Let them grow a hundred more guts and see if they dare move a hair of the great cat!

Jacqueline paid no attention to the expression of the Yellow Flowered Cat, only staring blankly at the warlock. Maybe it was because of the close distance, but she thought his scent was even better!

Is this infatuation?

The little witch had this strange word spring up in her heart.
