High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2997: Chapter 10: 6-3 and 7-4

”——Now there are only the two of us left.”

After watching John Hugh Karen leave, Elder Ruoyu spoke lightly to the young wizard beside him: ”Before you return to Buji Island, there are some pieces of advice I hope you can consider... I won’t say these things at school or elsewhere. Danghag is a nice place.”

His wording was very cautious.

But Zheng Qing didn’t feel that merely ’considering’ would be enough.

Cough, cough!

A simulated cough echoed in the vast Solomon Hall, and the eyes of the two wizards simultaneously focused on a Flower Cat perched on a table—Zheng Qing immediately realized what it wanted to express.

Sure enough, upon noticing the wizards’ gaze, the Yellow Flowered Cat gently reminded them: ”Excuse my interruption... I would like to emphasize that besides you two, there are also two more legends in this room.”

Its raised tail pointed at itself, then at the Little Green Snake hanging from Zheng Qing’s ear. The Little Green Snake softly nodded, expressing its stance.

”No worries, you can listen to these matters too.”

Elder Ruoyu chuckled softly, nodding to both the Flower Cat and Little Green Snake before looking back at the young wizard: ”——The first matter concerns your Law book.”

His gaze fell onto the Law book beside Zheng Qing’s hand, then quickly withdrew.

”...The other day the headmaster asked everyone to sign their names on it because he is the headmaster. And you’re not.”

Perhaps due to the absence of outsiders, Elder Ruoyu spoke very plainly: ”Therefore, I suggest not lightly exposing this book unless necessary... It could incite covetousness on one hand, and discomfort some people on the other. These are unnecessary troubles.”

Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly: ”Today is the first time in two years that I’ve taken it out... simply to bolster my courage.”

The Elder Wizard appreciated the young man’s straightforwardness, paused, and then supplemented: ”——Similarly, because you are not the headmaster, I advise against letting anyone casually sign their names on this book. It easily stirs hostility and offers little benefit to you, resulting in poor judgment. Moreover, the book already has enough names. As I’ve said before, the new position at the Edge Academy and pertinent departments are already very burdensome for you... there’s no need to add new, additional burdens.”

Prudent approach.

The phrase flickered through Zheng Qing’s mind as he agreed with the Elder Wizard’s advice at heart, but instead, he started venting: ”You’re absolutely right; I also feel the gentleman, or the school, overestimates me a bit by adding such heavy burdens... Do you think the school might consider selecting a new director to share the pressure, maybe the Rat Immortal? It’s a fringe representative in the Alliance after all, plus it’s powerful enough. Zhu Si is an instructor at the school, and he’s hosted the school’s laboratory before...”

”——Speaking of ’pertinent departments’, that’s my second matter to discuss.”

Elder Ruoyu opened his mouth independently, seemingly ignoring the young wizard’s rambling recommendation: ”During the hearing, you should have noticed a batch of wizards wearing blue robes at the venue.”

”Exactly alike to Forty-one’s attire.”

Zheng Qing nodded, seeing the inquiry in Elder Ruoyu’s eyes, and quickly explained: ”Aren’t the department’s staff all using code names? After the freshman hunting tournament, it was Forty-one who took away my Shadow Cat... Professor Yao was present at the time. Of the department personnel, aside from Professor Baoyangzi, he’s the only one I know.”

During his sophomore year, Baoyangzi had served as the instructor for Zheng Qing’s courses ’Convergence Principle’ and ’Abus Duo Conjecture’, thus he habitually referred to him as Professor.

”That’s already quite good; most professors in the school aren’t familiar with department personnel.”

Elder Ruoyu nodded slightly, sighing gently: ”——Actually, the department used to be less closed-off. Initially, when the headmaster developed the first-generation curses due to the need for the collective strength of over a hundred Big Wizards, many professors at the school had names in the department. But now, as more curses are developed, the department has become increasingly closed-off... Of course, this also relates to the growing external coveting for curses and the reduced need for Big Wizards to develop new-generation curses.”

At this point, the elderly man paused slightly, his silver wolf head staff tapped lightly on the floor. A faint magical halo expanded, enveloping the entire hall within moments.

The Ancient Gublai Fairy Fire hanging on the walls seemed isolated behind a layer of glass, making its glow increasingly dim.

The seemingly asleep Yellow Flowered Cat curiously perked its ears, squinting slightly.

”——Though we are in Danghag, discretion is needed when discussing certain topics.” After a brief explanation, the Elder Wizard pivoted the conversation, asking, ”Do you know the organizational structure of the First University?”

Zheng Qing was baffled by what seemed like a simple question.

After hesitating, he earnestly nodded: ”The school is divided into five colleges and four research institutes, with the Professor Joint Meeting responsible for teaching and the School Works Committee for other school affairs... Does the Black Prison count as part of the school?”

”A perfect example.”

Elder Ruoyu praised Zheng Qing: ”The Black Prison is very special, much like the pertinent departments... It’s special because both institutions are directly managed by the headmaster. Of course, the independence of the departments is still very strong now, but due to an incident a few years ago, the Black Prison has come under the joint management of the Professor Joint Meeting and the School Works Committee. This also relates to the management structure of the Black Prison, as it doesn’t have a permanent Prison Chief; instead, it is managed by high-level wizards from the school on a rotating basis. Thus, it easily integrated into the present school management system after the incident.

But the departments aren’t like this.

In fact, before the inception of the Edge Academy, the school’s upper level had a ’Six-Three’ management structure. That is, beneath the headmaster, there were six visible managers and three hidden ones. The six in front included two vice-principals and four college directors; the three behind were responsible for the ’Buzhou’, ’Eden’, and ’Babel’ generations of curses.

You should also know, the first-generation curses include two spells, ’Wild’ and ’Genesis’, with ’Buzhou’ managing these spells. Its responsible figure in school management is formally called ’Mountain Master’.

The second-generation spell, ’Twilight of the Gods’, has ’Eden’ as its management agency, governed by the ’Garden Director’. Also, the third-generation spell ’Dragon Han Disaster’, managed by ’Babel’, is overseen by the ’Tower Master’.

Now, your appearance along with the Edge Academy has altered the ’Six-Three’ structure... Because you are both the director of the Edge Academy and soon to become the fourth head of the pertinent departments—or, as some young wizards in the department might say, you are about to become the fourth giant of the department—whether to dispense your authority under a new ’Seven-Four’ structure to continue the existing management framework, or to consolidate your authority and construct a new ’Six-Three-One’ structure, is a very significant change for the school, and a very challenging issue.”
