High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2989: Chapter 2: Outside the Door

”——The school’s visitors are from that place, it seems the rumors are true.”

”What rumors?”

”It’s said that there has been a major restructuring within the relevant departments, related to the hearing we’re attending today.”

”Related to the hearing? Isn’t today’s hearing about that young man named Zheng Qing? If I remember correctly, today’s hearing is about the Alliance reviewing his qualifications to serve as Dean of the Peripheral College... Could it be that the school changed their minds and plans to let this youngster enter the relevant department?”

”That’s a good change! A good change! He’s barely an adult, yet he’s been given such an important responsibility at the Peripheral College, which is somewhat reckless. It’s better for him to go to ’that place’ for a few years, to gather experience and broaden his horizons. It’s not a bad thing...”

”Sigh, am I the only one bothered that someone so young has the chance to receive an invitation for a dean-level position at the First University? I’ve been muddling through as a Big Wizard for nearly a hundred years, and the legendary level I’ve accumulated can’t compare to a youngster who’s just graduated for two years, it really makes one feel a bit disheartened.”

”Legendary level is also about fate and luck; accumulating it year after year is certainly the right way, but we cannot deny there are always prodigies and rising stars... Take that Great Wizard from the North District of Beta Town, young yet accomplished great deeds, his reputation being sung by many is only right; or the current Upper House Member from the Su Family of Qingqiu, incomparably beautiful and became a Great Wizard at a young age, it’s like heaven itself blesses her with legendary level, where’s the rationale in that?”

”Speaking of Su Councilor... It’s rumored that she has a marriage arrangement with the main subject of today’s hearing, is it true?”

”It should be true, a few years ago there were newspapers reporting she had an illegitimate child with Zheng Qing, and Qingqiu never denied it. Such matters concerning the dignity of a clan cannot be fabricated.”

”But I’ve heard that the daughter of the Zhongshan Jiang Family also has some sort of unclear relationship with this young man?”

”Oh, the darling of Fortuna... Everyone knows Fortuna is capricious; perhaps today she favors you, and tomorrow she’ll roll her eyes, letting you fall from cloud nine into dust. Aren’t such things common? The higher one climbs, the harder they fall, that’s the real reason!”

Fortuna is the name of the goddess of luck.

The not-so-young clerk’s ears drooped slightly downward, as she quickly glanced at those grumbling old men—judging by their positions, they seem to be peripheral figures in the Wizard Council, no wonder they are so unseemly.

Even so, the clerk couldn’t help but feel a rare sense of empathy.

Ah, others in their youth are dating the most beautiful goddess in the world, being Dean of the First University, entering the Alliance’s most enigmatic magic institutions, while her youth is trapped behind the tall and sturdy counter of the Danghag Reception, doing monotonous work day after day, not to mention accumulating legendary level, even the resources for registered wizard stage seem insufficient.

It makes one both envious and dejected.

Tap, tap, tap!

The crisp sound of high heels striking the smooth and hard floor interrupted the clerk’s self-pity and halted the progress of the green-robed wizards.

She looked up, feeling a bit uneasy as if her dark thoughts had been uncovered, and hastily looked forward.

She saw that the large circle of Moon Clan members, which had been gathered together, had opened up unknowingly. The Upper House Member from the Moon Council, Miss Qingqiu, long marred by whispering gossip, had already stepped out of the circle, stood cold-faced before the few old wizards who had just been gossiping.

”Young people deserve a young academy. What do you old men even know?” Su Shijun spoke with no courtesy, casting a sidelong glance at the surreptitious eyes around her, her gaze carrying a hint of contempt: ”You spend your days stagnating, yet you covet the few opportunities of the young, such demeanor, even if the world sings your name, how do you stand up to the title of legend?”

The murmuring voices around her immediately quieted down.

Some elders looked discontentedly at the young Upper House Member, seeming to criticize her rudeness; while others shook their heads thoughtfully, unsure if they agreed with Su Shijun’s words or found her a bit aggressive; of course, some elders, mostly warlocks, maintained their lifelong appreciation of beauty, disregarding the witch’s words and instead admiring the stunning beauty before them.

As for the nucleus of several circles—the Chief Justice of Danghag, other Upper House Members of the Moon Council, and the director of the Trident Sword, among others—they maintained enough composure during this small conflict, looking at their noses, their noses to their hearts, as if all external noise had nothing to do with them.

The clerk admired a glance at Miss Qingqiu.

Comparing hearts, if she were in that position, she wouldn’t have stepped forward just now. Not only because the various Big Wizards present are prominent figures, publicly rebuking them would embarrass everyone, but also because those rumors have spread widely, rashly stepping forward would only make people think you’re guilty or furious.

Yet Su Shijun seemed not to have such concerns.

Her flamboyance and pride seemed innate, completely unaffected by external influences.

”——Who said our excellent graduates are favored by Fortuna the bitch? Don’t you know, Zheng Qing is our principal’s most prized mentee? Since when could Fortuna influence our principal’s preferences?”

A slightly hoarse voice came from the suddenly opened Solomon Hall, causing many Big Wizards present to look in its direction. In the spacious hall, unbeknownst to when, there were more than a dozen tall wizards in luxurious robes standing or sitting, all looking outward.

The clerk only managed a quick glance, easily spotting several familiar faces—the one speaking was Lady Shi Hui, former vice-president of the First University, now presiding over the Magic Alliance Conference, and beside her, Mr. Ruo Yu and Lady Emma—these individuals the clerk had seen many times while studying at the First University, even having the privilege to speak with them. But after graduation, she never had such a chance again.

These are the real figures.

Legends of the Wizard World.

The old wizard named by Lady Shi Hui turned pale—though he is also a Big Wizard and looks old enough to be Lady Shi Hui’s grandfather, in such an occasion, rank is the only criterion that distinguishes status.

”You should withdraw.”

A core old wizard of the Wizard Council circles finally spoke, instructing softly: ”Anyone with a biased stance before the hearing starts shouldn’t attend today’s hearing.”
