High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2975: Chapter 19: The Crow Lives On

The black robe wearing a disguise mask did not satisfy Thomas’s curiosity.

When performing special tactical team tasks, he was already accustomed to silence, minimizing the probability of mistakes. In such situations, it was usually his law book that spoke on his behalf.

But today, facing one of the most outstanding former mentors from the assistant group, he finally opened his mouth.

”The only lesson humanity has learned from history is that it learns nothing from history.” The voice under the disguise mask was mechanical and cold, but it could not conceal that faint trace of sarcasm: ”——We already know those stories. Gypsies, Jews, Skrulls, it seems betrayal runs in their bones. Yet the school always turns a blind eye, believing all evils can be corrected.”

Thomas withdrew the warmth from his face and the kindness from his eyes.

Most of the people in the school thought he was a German, unaware of his slight alien ancestry, which came from the Skrull Race—a people who, after their home star was destroyed, wandered the universe. In a sense, they were somewhat like the Earth’s Gypsies and Jews.

He sighed softly.

No longer attempting anything futile.

He opened the law book and activated the summoning spell etched on the title page.

A circle of flame-shaped Starburst Magic Array bloomed in front of him, dense black spells surged like swarms from the depths, clustering together, linking head to tail, expanding to the surroundings, soon engulfing over half of the purple Mandrake Garden within the fence.

The Six Gates Golden Lock Formation is a very powerful binding-type array that can maximally confine the wizard within, ensuring any escape method would fail.

But because of this, the array lacks sufficient attack power.

Or rather, when wizards constructing the array deploy the Six Gates Golden Lock, while trapping the enemy in place, they also lose means to attack the enemy.

Thus, the black-robed figures outside the fence could only watch Thomas summon that hideous giant monster.

Edge Type One.

This model, named after Edge Academy, had gained some fame within the Alliance, known by more and more wizards. Naturally, the black-robed figures pursuing it were no exception.

Pale green spell light gushed like spring water from the Starburst Magic Array, slowly lifting the monster over ten meters high, with a slender body. Its insect-like face, mouth opening side to side, its skull covered in hard, smooth shell, on which twisted, nearly dark green transformed magic runes were distributed. As it shook its head and tail, tiny electric arcs flashed through those lines, filling the air with a palpitation-inducing tremor.

The summoner closed the law book.

The summoned monster crouched slowly, opening its large mouth.

The monster over ten meters tall opened its mouth like a door opening and closing. Before entering, Thomas paused, turned to look at the brazen black robe, contemplating: ”...A wizard’s choice of words to describe betrayal most reflects his background and character. So, from your wording, you should be from Alpha Academy, right? If a wizard like me is inherently a betrayer in your eyes, then what about Professor Montreya? Montreya with ancient lineage and noble surname?”

He chuckled softly twice, turned, and entered the mouth of Edge Type One.

The disguise mask concealed the black robe’s livid face.

Professor Montreya was from Alpha Academy, and he played a disgraceful role in the event that shocked the entire Alliance months ago, becoming a shame for all Alpha People. To some extent, Thomas’s counterattack hurt far more than his damage to Thomas.

After all, Montreya is truly the leader of the Ravens.

Buzz!

Dark green magic ripple expanded in circles from Edge Type One’s feet, causing the small wooden house to creak and several inconspicuous tremors to flash across the Six Gates Golden Lock Formation.

The black-robed wizard inhaled lightly, banishing the chaotic thoughts in his mind, quickly forming hand Jue, linking with his teammates: ”Six Gates Locked... Shock!”

This is one of the array’s few slightly aggressive capabilities.

But the effect was underwhelming; the monster within the array merely swayed slightly, without further reaction. Conversely, the flame-shaped circular mark on its forehead began to slowly brighten, making the seal of ’Two’ within the circle exceptionally clear.

This signified Thomas had formally activated this Giant God Soldier.

Bam!

Suddenly, a huge collision sound was heard; although the pale golden array did not fluctuate, the black-robed figures clearly felt an instant increase in the speed of their magic power loss.

Then, they traced the source of the loud noise.

Edge Type One’s long, lizard-like tail soared high, and under the gaze of six wizards, fiercely struck the pale golden light membrane.

Bam!

A dense sound like firecrackers fiercely erupted. Thomas wasted no magic power, instead using the simplest and most direct physical attack against the Six Gates Golden Lock Formation.

In a short time, fine and indelible cracks appeared on that layer of pale golden light membrane.

Just as the black-robed figures thought the target was about to escape, a group of wizards wearing cat masks arrived timely at the battlefield, helping the black-robed figures stabilize the situation.

It was the crisis support group of the Trident Sword.

”——Surrender, Thomas.” The leader of Trident Sword seemed to know the wanted person within the array, attempting to give him another chance: ”Danghag will be just to you.”

”Danghag, hehe...”

The cold mechanical voice did not come from within the array, but from behind the two hunting teams, along with cold laughter, heavy footsteps emerging from the forest: ”Since when can school matters let Trident Sword or Danghag interfere?”

Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!

Soon, four tall, hideous figures appeared in the eleven hunters’ sight.

They were four new Edge Type Ones.

”——Trap?”

The word emerged in everyone’s mind.

The deployed Six Gates Golden Lock instantly collapsed; eleven hunters from diverse backgrounds quickly gathered to form a smaller but solid defensive stance.

”Those Ravens!”

”Didn’t they escape to the New World? Why are they suddenly appearing here!”

”Is now the time to consider why?”

”Merlin Above! Five Edge Type Ones... How many monsters did the First University release?”

”Should be just these five... It’s said they once served as Montreya’s Guard Squad, placed elsewhere before his attack on Buji Island, avoiding the school’s sweep.”

”I don’t want to verify their origin, I just want to get out alive.”

The eleven exchanged intense thoughts within the array.

But those newly arrived Edge Type Ones seemed in no hurry to attack them.

Thomas stepped across that row of tall castor bean tree hedge, looking down at the eleven small ants in the clearing, subtly shaking his head.

”When Romans and Tangians couldn’t find enough ’good families’ to manage their empires, these great empires began to hire foreigners and barbarians. The results are known—the empire started to decline and then perish.”

His voice, relayed by Edge Type One, appeared cold and sharp: ”——Understand what it means? Some things can be entrusted to others, but some things must not seek outsiders. Originally, we could provide the school with more, more reliable ’good families’. Unfortunately... Just like the sentence you just said, humanity’s only lesson from history is learning nothing from history.”
