High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2973: Chapter 17: Jiang Xiaomao

”——Some flowers never bloom, never see the light of day.”

”——Some flowers resign themselves to fate, going with the flow.”

”——Some rise up.”

”——Some fall.”

”——But, only you make the heavenly beauty become real.”

”——Only you can show them the real me... see clearly, the real me.”

The crisp and melodious singing is like a clear stream flowing, echoing in the air, harmonizing with the babbling brook beneath, composing a beautiful symphony.

Jiang Yu straightened up, tossed the brush in her hand into the wooden bucket, tightened the belt around her waist, rolled up her pants and sleeves higher, exposing a length of fair arms and legs, and gently exhaled.

It was mid-winter, the cold was biting, the white breath she expelled was like a long snake, winding for a long time along the direction of the flowing stream.

”——Some flowers never bloom, never see the light of day.”

”——Some flowers resign themselves to fate, going with the flow...”

”Change the song, stop always singing this one.” The witch raised her head, looked at the furry large head in front of her, picked up the brush from the wooden bucket again, gestured at the big head, ”...Damao, flip over, it’s time to brush the other side!”

The first sentence was said to the singing Blue Elf. That pretty little fellow was wrapped in a thick fluffy cape, standing on that big head’s forehead, holding a Speaker Flower, resembling a diva performing on stage.

The latter sentence was said to the owner of that big head, the Zhongshan Hairy Dragon she called ’Damao.’ At this moment, the Haired Dragon was lazily lying by the stream, enjoying the fun of being scrubbed by its owner.

Hearing the witch’s words,

The Blue Sprite paused first, then swiftly changed to another song: ”——Your friends, enemies, or other acquaintances disappear from your World, that’s when you will know that your original life will be gone forever...”

The witch felt speechless, and rolled her eyes slightly.

Due to Li Meng’s big mouth, her little secret seemed to have become known and talked about by everyone in Zhongshan — everyone knew that her recently graduated boyfriend suddenly disappeared without a trace, not even leaving a letter — the good news was that the guy at Greenhill Mansion also didn’t know his whereabouts, the bad news was that everyone looked at her with somewhat odd expressions.

Including but not limited to the family cook, maid, Dragon, gatekeeper, family doctor, tutor as well as the Sprites, etc.

The difference lies in, since someone ran away, family members and servants avoided talking about her relationships, mostly carrying a hint of elusive pity or sympathy in their gaze. Only these simple-minded Sprites would occasionally find some excuses to comfort her, singing heartbreak songs.

In a certain sense,

They are truly not human.

Of course, Sprites are not humans inherently, doing humanless deeds can be understood, but some people also don’t act humanly.

Like today,

She came out to brush ’Damao’s’ long fur just because of this — earlier at the dining table, her aunt had a lengthy introduction about her sister’s husband’s nephew, rumored to be the heir apparent of the O’Brien family, nobly bred, gifted, with implications to let her move on and not to cling onto one tree.

It was rather infuriating.

”Eyy—wu—”

The Haired Dragon lying by the bank heard its owner’s arrangement too, responding obediently, lazily flicking its tail, its slender body flipping over segment by segment, revealing a tangle of long hair.

Sigh—inhale—

The witch took a deep breath, the cold and moist air seeping into her heart, causing her to shiver, looking at the dirty ’fur carpet’ before her, filled with fighting spirit.

”——No matter what, no matter what you say, time flies by, opportunities vanish quickly, miracles will not repeat, you need to love till the end...”

The Blue Sprite’s somewhat ’hoarse and strenuous’ voice didn’t elicit any touch from her, just felt inexplicably amused. Amid the amusement, gazing at the fine long hair filling the brush gaps, she was slightly dazed.

These hairs after boiling, degreasing, drying, would become high-quality Magic Materials, used for spinning and weaving cloth. The dragon-shaped toy she gifted Zheng Qing was woven from the fine hair beneath the Haired Dragon’s head, infused with Magic Power it could turn into a small dragon for transport, though she didn’t know if he had ever used it.

Eyy—wu—

Feeling the brush’s force on its back weakening, the Haired Dragon turned its head, opening its big watery eyes to its owner, seeming to perceive her sudden melancholy, obediently nudging its head closer and rubbing — its fluffy face’s short fur felt like a warm big hand, rubbing very comfortably.

Jiang Yu came to her senses, smiling and rubbing its cheek.

”Good girl!”

She praised, gathering spirits, about to continue brushing it, suddenly heard the rushing voice of a little maid from afar: ”——Miss! Miss! A letter from the school has arrived! It was forwarded from room 403!”

Room 403?

Zheng Qing’s dormitory?

Forwarded?

The witch hesitated for a moment, threw aside the brush with a clap, jumped out of the brook suddenly, barefoot running towards the little maid, entirely ignoring the rough stones on the ground.

The maid running all along saw this and instantly regretted.

But in the next second, a fragrant breeze lashed, the letter in her hand was impatiently snatched away. The little maid opened her mouth, seemed to want to remind the miss to mind her manners, but recalling the rumors sprawling recently on the mountain, she ultimately said nothing, just sighed softly with a hint of pity.

If it were an ordinary day, hearing this sigh, Jiang Yu would have surely rewarded her little maid with several ’chestnuts.’

But now, she completely ignored that sigh, eagerly opened the letter, swiftly scanning, the surprise on her face gradually vanished, restoring tranquillity.

The letter was indeed from room 403, and was forwarded.

But it wasn’t from the person she was expecting.

It was from another friend, Xiao Xiao.

Similar to her and Zheng Qing, after graduation, Xiao Xiao also left the school but didn’t just leave for good; he became the apparent leader of Yuzui Hunting Team, spending part of his time in Beta Town, and part of it roaming around the World, watching tournaments all over for Yuzui, scouting suitable ’job opportunities.’

Today’s letter was sent by him.

The letter mentioned the next year’s ’Zeus Cup’ hunting tournament preliminary is about to start, the scale and prizes of this tournament are very remarkable, suggesting Yuzui to register and participate — Jiang Yu, as a team member, naturally needs to consult her opinion.

No!

The witch straightforwardly wrote two words at the end of the letter.

After thinking it over, she scratched them off, changed them to ’no time’ three words, then shoved the letter haphazardly into the little maid’s arms: ”Return it as it came... next time, don’t be so reckless!”

Saying so, she bent her fingers, eventually granting the little maid a knock.

Since she was already hit,

The little maid simply held her head, dared to retort bravely: ”Miss, you’ve no other plans recently? Why not go then? I heard many strong Hunters are joining the Zeus Cup!”

”I need to brush Damao’s fur! No time!”

The witch snorted, turned, leisurely wandering back to the brook.

On the Haired Dragon’s forehead, the Blue Elf holding the Speaker Flower changed to a new song:

”——Day turns into night, night turns into day.”

”——I cannot keep up with the World’s pace.”

”——I am constantly disappointed but still hope for possibility, unwaveringly...”
