High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2099: Chapter 320: Halloween Eve

October 31st.

Saturday, lunar calendar September 14th.

Halloween Night.

Good for cleaning, haircuts, buying clothes, setting up beds, and offering sacrifices.

Bad for meeting friends and relatives.

After getting up in the morning, Zheng Qing skillfully picked up a few headless nightmare dolls beside his pillow and threw them into the trash can. He cleaned up the amulet that had been burned to ashes on the other side of the pillow, then accepted the toiletries handed over by the sprites.

”Are you going to the library today?” Xiao Xiao asked seemingly nonchalantly while fastening his belt.

With his mouth full of toothpaste foam, Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows high at the mention: ”Go to the library? Just to be caught and hung up and beaten? Isn’t it nice to just stay in the dorm?”

”You do have some self-awareness.” A sarcastic voice came from the Fat Wizard’s bed.

Zheng Qing pouted.

Ever since learning about that incident four days ago, Xin Fat Man had become quite sardonic, though he hadn’t gone so far as to poison or stab effigies of Zheng Qing, throwing in a few sarcastic remarks each day had already become a habit.

Bang!

The dorm door was pushed open, and Dylan squeezed in, covered in dust. Seeing that the young scholarship student was already up, he tossed him a box irritably.

”Here you go, next time it’s Fat Man’s turn to go to the office building!” He exhaustedly accepted the hot towel handed over by the sprites, letting out a long sigh: ”... Running these errands is even more exhausting than fighting in a tournament all night!”

Zheng Qing took the box and opened it, finding a box of black ashes inside.

”Where’s the letter?” he asked, puzzled.

”Burned.”

Dylan looked at him expressionlessly: ”There were more letters than usual today, and most were roaring letters. The duty officer in the office suggested I bring back some ashes for you as a token gesture.”

Zheng Qing shrugged, accepting this explanation.

In fact, even if there were letters in the box, he wouldn’t have the energy to open them. Apart from earnestly opening a few hundred letters on the first day, for the next few days, he simply burned them all to ashes.

Not looking was the only way to barely maintain a bit of peace of mind.

Facing hundreds or thousands of letters full of various insults from Su Shijun’s fans, the fans of Wolfman Prince William, Vampire Duke Milton, and several other popular young men was beyond comprehension to him.

Did snatching Su Shijun away, keeping their idols single, not benefit them in some way?

”Oh, and one more thing.”

Halfway through climbing into a coffin, Dylan patted his forehead, looking back at Zheng Qing with a look of just remembering: ”Tonight...”

”Tonight you’re going to participate in that Seven Sins assessment, right?” Xiao Xiao suddenly interjected, cutting off the Blood Werewolf’s words: ”Make sure you go and come back quickly, don’t stay outside too long. It’s not safe, even if you’re a cat.”

”Alright, alright.” Zheng Qing waved it off nonchalantly.

”Ahem,” Dylan cleared his throat twice before speaking again: ”I was going to say, tonight...”

”Tonight, when you’re going for the assessment, you can also submit this homework task.”

Xiao Xiao took a stack of homework from the drawer and threw it in front of Zheng Qing: ”Didn’t you say last time that this homework task was picked up from the task board near the Cat Fruit Tree? Just submit the task today... I’ll even accept those twenty gold beans tomorrow.”

”Wow, is it already done?”

Zheng Qing looked at the pile of homework with delight—the Belfinger’s task had come nearly two weeks ago, and, due to the school hunting competition and horn report, he had been a bit overwhelmed and almost forgot about it.

”Yeah.”

Xiao Xiao snorted, glancing at Dylan who seemed about to speak again, then looked at Zheng Qing with slightly more emphasis: ”Tonight is Halloween; apart from the Cat Fruit Tree, I suggest you don’t wander elsewhere... A group of guys with ghost masks might throw a few evil curses at you for fun, and you won’t be able to find anyone to complain to.”

The Blood Werewolf merely shrugged and quietly closed his mouth.

”I’m not stupid.”

Zheng Qing replied nonchalantly, merrily inspecting the pile of homework in front of him. The quality of the work completed by the Doctor was evidently very high, with neat and clean typeset writing on the parchment, like textbook answers.

Regarding today’s outing, through this period of ”training,” he had become very experienced in hiding himself and keeping a low profile.

In the dorm, the other three warlocks exchanged glances subtly, eventually saying nothing further.

Soon, those leaving left, and those climbing into coffins climbed in. By nine o’clock, only Zheng Qing and Tuan Tuan were left eyeing each other.

Studying alone was a joke.

Without a third-party supervisor, even a slowly flying insect could make one distracted for a long time, not to mention a fat cat on the desk occasionally snoring.

Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man were mysteriously occupied and hadn’t returned all day. At eight in the evening, even Dylan yawned as he crawled out of his coffin, groggily bidding farewell to Zheng Qing—this was very unusual, like Xin Fat Man getting up at six in the morning.

”Is there something fun happening tonight?” Zheng Qing checked the time, puzzled.

”What’s fun or not fun?” The Blood Werewolf averted his eyes guiltily, mumbling: ”Just some Halloween night mini-games... between warlocks and witches, heh heh, you know.”

Zheng Qing crossed his arms, sneering as he watched Dylan’s fleeing figure, betting they were hiding something from him. But that was understandable, considering he’d kept many things secret himself initially.

But.

”They don’t say anything, does it mean I can’t find out myself?” The young scholarship student took out a Transformation Potion, sniffing it under his nose, snickering.

Achoo!

With a sneeze, clothes fell away, and a black cat emerged from the pile of clothing.

”Tuan Tuan, keep an eye on the door, don’t let the sprites fly out of the window!” The black cat warned the fat cat on the table: ”Tonight is Halloween, it’s a mess out there!”

The fat cat snorted disdainfully. It had experienced more Halloweens than these dumb kids had weekend getaways, what need was there for him to remind it!

The black cat agilely leapt onto the desk, slipping out of the dorm along the window and balcony.

The night breeze was gentle and mellow, and the moonlight filtered through the gaps between the tree leaves, casting rippling patchwork shadows.

Against the black cat’s expectations, the campus was almost empty tonight, a stark contrast to the bustling and festive atmosphere Zheng Qing anticipated. As it headed along the blue stone slab path towards the Cat Fruit Tree, it surprisingly saw few people wearing ghost masks.

Even more unexpectedly, when it reached the Cat Fruit Tree, the Sin Bearer wearing a white mask and another warlock wearing a goat mask were already there.

”Why are you only here now!”

The Sin Bearer, uncharacteristically, urged the black cat: ”Hurry up, hurry up... This is tonight’s examiner, you can call him Asmodeus... representing Lust from the Seven Sins.”

”Let’s get the assessment over with quickly, I have to attend a big party afterward!” The examiner wearing a goat mask impatiently urged, his attitude clearly conveying to the black cat not to dawdle.

”What party?”

Upon hearing the words ’lust’ and ’party,’ the black cat’s eyes lit up, its tail wagging like a windmill: ”Where is it happening? Can I join?”

”You?”

The warlock with the goat mask hesitated for a few seconds before finally nodding: ”You... it’s not really prohibited... although I didn’t expect a cat to be interested in such things... As for the party, the theme tonight is ’Burn Zheng Qing Parade’.”
