High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2089: Chapter 310: Gifts (Part 2)

There are a total of eight magical rewards on the podium.

To be precise, there are nine, but the last one added for Li Meng repeats one of the previous eight, giving it a somewhat superfluous feel.

Among them are spells that the professor has taught in the Curse Course, such as the Binding Spell ’Bind’, Chaos Spell ’Wolf Struggling Its Whiskers’, Soft Leg Curse ’I Ma Hui Tui’, Guardian ’Restricting South Mountain’, and Escape Spell ’Peach and Tender’.

The remaining ones are less common, but everyone has heard of them, such as Sleeping Spell ’Sleep Without Hearing’, Insight spell ’Clearly Visible’, and the one used to conceal actions ’Obscure’.

Among these spells, the Binding Spell is the only one repeated.

Additionally, before receiving the prizes, every student needs to sign several detailed agreements—this is what the professor previously referred to as ’rules’ to Li Meng—the agreements include those from the school, from Danghag, and from the Wizard Council Environmental Protection Agency, all with different clauses.

For example, the school’s filing materials require the prize recipients to prohibit using these legendary magic spells on campus as long as it doesn’t threaten life.

And the materials required to be signed by Danghag are more detailed, not only specifying the scope of use but also clearly stating these spells are restricted trading products; transactions need to be filed again with Danghag and reviewed for the qualifications of the trading object; also, the elements of related magical information are recorded by Danghag, making the signee the primary responsible party in the absence of filed transactions.

This means that if the Mage Alliance detects the traces of this spell, and the spell does not have a record of being traded, then the owner receiving this spell today will be responsible for all damages caused by it.

The ’damage’ mentioned here mainly refers to the destruction of the environment by high-level magic—perhaps to strengthen the awareness of responsibility among these young wizards, aside from the terms mentioned in Danghag’s filing, another agreement provided by the Wizard Council Environmental Protection Agency further supplements more contents, stating that a significant environmental protection fee must be paid after using legendary, large-scale lethal magic in this world to compensate for irreversible damage caused by high-level magic.

Of course, the agreement also stipulates a series of exemption clauses, such as applying for reimbursement from the Alliance’s environmental protection fund after fighting demons; use under the premise of personal safety protection can pay at the lowest standard; use for public interest purposes can be waived, etc.

Because these agreements and filing materials are quite formal, they need to be signed by wizards with full legal capacities to take effect, and Li Meng is far too young, thus Old Yao previously reminded her about the ’delegation’ matters.

However, probably due to being delegated by Jiang Yu too often, Li Meng was completely satisfied after touching the prize and handed it to Jiang Yu without any sign of loss.

She chose ’Peach and Tender’ because the illusion revealed on the parchment was bright peach blossoms, the most beautiful looking.

As for Absolution and several other members on the edge—Xiao Xiao chose ’Restricting South Mountain’, Zhang Ji Xin chose ’Wolf Struggling Its Whiskers’, Xin Fat Man chose ’Sleep Without Hearing’, Carmen chose ’Obscure’.

The rest were Zheng Qing, Jiang Yu, Nicholas, and Liu Fei Fei.

There were four spells left, two Binding Spells, one Insight spell ’Clearly Visible’, one Soft Leg Curse ’I Ma Hui Tui’.

All four simultaneously cast their sights on the pair of ’Bind’.

”Hmm, a little mistake!”

Old Yao immediately sensed the subtle atmosphere brewing in the air, quickly waved his hand, took the ’Clearly Visible’ back, and instead released ’I Ma Hui Tui’, explaining with an air of seriousness: ”...wasn’t paying attention earlier, the effect of this Insight spell isn’t clear enough...”

Now, the prizes left on stage were two Binding Spells and two Soft Leg Curses.

Zheng Qing expected it to be a straightforward choice, needing only to choose the same spell as Jiang Yu, but was surprised when the two witches smiled at each other and divided those two Binding Spells.

The remaining two warlocks looked at each other awkwardly and took away the two Soft Leg Curses.

Zheng Qing was the last to receive the prize.

When it was his turn, the young wizard bravely asked Old Yao a question: ”Professor, do you also need to file when casting each spell?”

Many in the classroom immediately perked up their ears.

”A very interesting question.”

Old Yao took the pipe away from his mouth, smiled, and patiently explained: ”Having you sign these agreements is because these magics are powers beyond your abilities, using them needs great caution... Hmm, there’s a very vivid example, it’s like a child wielding a big hammer in the market, even if you swing the ’hammer’, it’s very easy to cause unforeseen damage. And this world is much more fragile than we imagine... Don’t forget the Silence Theory taught in Philosophy of Magic class. As for us...”

He paused, seeming to weigh his words, before continuing: ”Whether Big Wizards or Legendary Wizards, their understanding of the world is already quite profound... Although we don’t submit a large stack of filing materials before casting each magic, it doesn’t mean unlimited freedom.”

The topic ended here, Old Yao did not further explain, and Zheng Qing wisely did not continue to question, but honestly signed his name on the materials and reached out to take a parchment.

The parchment curled as it landed in his hand, rolling into a small scroll about an inch long. Once formed, the vague golden light receded instantly, becoming plain and unobtrusive.

Nearby, Absolution’s partners were enthusiastically discussing the possible uses of these spells.

”Can’t use in this world... so, using it in the Black Prison or Dreamland is fine, right?” Zhang Ji Xin held the inch-long Magic Scroll, grinning from ear to ear.

”It’s just high-tier magic, didn’t your family prepare this for you? Does that warrant such an expression... Look at your low aspiration.” Xin Fat Man cherished his prize while teasing the red-faced warlock with a grin.

”What do you know?”

The red-faced warlock argued with conviction: ”Earned by oneself, and given by family, how can they be the same? This Legendary Magic Scroll, I earned it with my own ability, my brother doesn’t have it... even if I go home and hang it around my neck to parade it around, it won’t look shabby!”

”Hang it on your neck and show off in front of your brother will only get you beaten.” The Fat Wizard commented very honestly.

”Does the Silent Forest count as part of the school domain?” Nicholas then discussed a more specific issue with Zheng Qing.

”You mean those ravens we encountered last time?”

Zheng Qing quickly understood his meaning, pondering: ”Theoretically, the Silent Forest is part of the school’s domain, but not within the monitoring range of the Protect Legal Formation... and we also have ample reason to believe those ravens pose a threat to our safety, so I think we can throw these scrolls at them.”
