High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2070: Chapter 291: Fierce as a Tiger

Nicholas’ idea was simple.

Any creature has a strong desire to protect its food—whether it’s an ordinary beast or a magical creature—right now, those fresh remains and the residual magic traces around them signify the presence of a magical creature or group that has just completed a hunt nearby.

They may have been startled away by the disturbance of the Axis Water Worm, but more likely, they are lurking behind some shrubs, coldly observing the activity outside.

And this might be the best chance for the Fringe Hunting Team to shake off those Ravens.

Screech!

The Blue Great Crow spread its claws, swooping toward the Axis Water Worm like a predatory falcon, and as its tail feathers trembled, a string of blue fireballs fell from the sky, striking outside the Zhen Waterworm Formation, causing the deep blue envelope to ripple violently, faintly revealing the wizards inside the formation.

”Nicholas?”

Dylan, possessing the best eyesight with his werewolf and blood race lineage, immediately captured a glimpse of a face exposed within the Axis Water Worm envelope for a moment: ”It’s the Fringe Hunting Team!”

”Those things resembling Ravens aren’t right.” Xiao Xiao said, looking up and carefully examining those fierce blue birds, with brows tightly knit: ”I can’t identify their species.”

This statement immediately prompted the other four hunters of the Atonement Hunting Team to raise their heads in unison.

Being able to stump Doctor Xiao with a magical creature is indeed rare; anyone who could identify it would likely boast for a whole year.

But unsurprisingly, no one could surpass Doctor Xiao in terms of extensive knowledge in this area.

”Probably a magic creation.” Zheng Qing gave a vague answer, then withdrew his gaze and refocused on the Axis Water Worm not far away: ”...If it’s just these birds, it shouldn’t push the Fringe to this extent.”

It’s known that the Fringe Hunting Team has a sophomore chief student from Jiuyou Academy; even though Liu Fei Fei is not adept at hunting, facing a few fire-breathing birds shouldn’t force them to flee in panic.

”I suspect there’s something else chasing them,” Xin Fat Man speculated aimlessly while carefully sensing the aura of that drop of Bo Fu Clan’s blood essence: ”...perhaps it’s the master of these blue birds.”

Dylan scratched his chin: ”Is it a magical creature from the forest or another hunting team?”

”The Fringe Hunting Team has circled that pile of remains four or five times.” Zhang Ji Xin’s gaze constantly hovered near the Fringe Hunting Team: ”...if there were truly something, or another hunting team, it should have arrived by now.”

Xiao Xiao lowered his head and stared intently at the crystal ball in his arms, softly saying: ”If you were a hunter and found that the originally panicking prey suddenly stopped by a pond, looking like it wanted to run but also wanted to drink, what would you think?”

”There’s a ghost in the pond.”

Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows, realizing the issue: ”So, besides us, there’s another hidden hunting team nearby?”

”Not necessarily a hunting team.” The crystal ball in Xiao Xiao’s arms flickered with unsettling light like a faulty bulb: ”...but yes, the thing chasing Nicholas is definitely around here.”

Zheng Qing immediately felt it was tricky.

But then, a new idea popped into his head.

...

...

While the Axis Water Worm circled the remains of the Pug, and the young wizards of the Atonement Hunting Team were fervently discussing within their small barrier, the masters of those blue birds, two mysterious wizards wearing Raven Masks, stood atop an old locust tree not far from the Axis Water Worm, cautiously observing their ’prey’.

Just as Xiao Xiao had speculated.

Suddenly discovering that their prey was no longer running actually aroused the hunter’s suspicion.

”The Pug died from a curse attack, with clear magical injury marks on its residual soul.” Raven No.7 closed his eyes, rubbing the crystal ball in his arms: ”But I can’t determine the time of death... nor find any trace of a third party. That Axis Water Worm is too bothersome, its magical fluctuations interfere with my detection magic.”

”Tch.”

Raven No.3 sneered: ”Everyone wants to be the yellowbird, so who will be the mantis? Since they’re willing to hide, why not let them play along a little longer?”

”Will it affect the plan?” Raven No.7 opened his eyes, glanced at his companion, his tone slightly more serious: ”Remember, our task isn’t the Fringe Hunting Team... we shouldn’t waste too much time on them.”

As he spoke, he glanced into the distance and added: ”We are too deep in the Silent Forest... too much noise, it could easily alert the monsters in the forest.”

”Relax, it will be over soon.” Raven No.3 flipped open the law book, tapped it lightly with a finger, releasing a new summoning spell: ”Kan Han like a roaring tiger!”

Roar!!

A huge white tiger with pendant eyes pounced out from the forest, its roar like thunder, echoing in Raven No.7’s ears, feeling as if the entire forest was trembling.

This was not an illusion, he noticed that amidst the tiger’s roar, the shrubs and branches, leaves of the trees within sight trembled along.

Raven No.3 seemed still unsatisfied, turning a few more pages of the law book, selecting another spell: ”Mò yǔ píng bees, seek your own sting!”

A cloud of darkness surged from the law book, covering the entire world.

...

...

”Damn! That tiger is huge!”

The fat wizard in the center of the formation swallowed loudly: ”And it brought accompanying ghosts... no wonder it chased the Fringe into a panicked escape!”

The accompanying ghosts are creatures eaten by the tiger, turned into the tiger’s ghostly servants, proficient in illusions and auxiliary magic, but their existence is not recognized by the Ghost Tribe. The Great Encyclopedia often categorizes such beings as puppet creations.

Around the massive tiger that pounced in from the outer forest, dozens of accompanying ghosts drifted, all wearing pointed wizard hats, holding law books, crystal balls, or wooden staffs in their hands.

With the tiger’s roar, the accompanying ghosts waved their wooden staffs and law books, exhaustively casting their feeble magic, and for a moment, the earth surged and vines crept wildly, turning the forest into a swamp, making the Axis Water Worm struggle to advance.

”Is it this guy?” Zheng Qing hesitated as he watched the fierce tiger breaking through the outer magic envelope of the Axis Water Worm with three quick attacks.

”Decide quickly whether to stay or leave.” Xiao Xiao’s crystal ball again flashed several images, Zheng Qing vaguely glimpsed a huge, mountain-like shadow: ”...we’re in the depths of Silent Forest, if we keep this up, it won’t be just this tiger coming over.”

”It’s already more than just this tiger.” Dylan gestured for everyone to be quiet: ”Do you hear?”

In the forest, the tiger’s roar gradually subsided.

But the trembling of the forest did not stop; instead, the buzzing grew louder, clearer. Suddenly, a ’dark cloud’ surged from behind the tiger, pouring down like unleashed floodwaters.
