High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2068: Chapter 289: Axis Water Worm

”Restricting South Mountain, Maintaining Rock-like Firmness!”

Liu Fei Fei shouted, casting another Guarding Curse. Pale yellow magic power surged out from her Law book, quickly forming a mountain-like illusion, once again enveloping the five Hunters, blocking the last few Wind Blades.

Bang! Bang!

The several feet long Wind Blades crisscrossed and shattered with a bang, colliding with the pale yellow mountain shadow, making it tremble and sprinkle a greenish blue light, reflecting on Nicholas’s ashen face, making the surrounding atmosphere even more gloomy.

”I thought it was the Trident Sword or the Assistant Team’s sticky plasters, didn’t expect it to be a few little bugs.”

Crow No.3 sounded somewhat disappointed, closed the Law book, and casually caught a few more Fireflies from the Return Soul Poplar nearby, playing with them in his hand, examining the five nervous young people opposite: ”Are you Hunters participating in the school hunting competition? Wait... there’s even a Fishman... I seem to have some impression...”

He raised a finger and scratched his pointed beak.

”Fringe Hunting Team, a newly formed team after the hunting competition reform, unregistered, captain Nicholas, Northern District Wizard, Half-blood Werewolf,” Crow No.7’s gaze slid over the other Hunters and finally landed on Iseni: ”... and that Fishman, from Lin Zhong Lake.”

”An interesting combination.”

Crow No.3 tossed the Fireflies in his hand: ”Northern District Wizard, Gypsy Witches, Fishman... no wonder you call yourselves the ’Fringe’ Hunting Team... saves a lot of trouble eh.”

Nicholas clenched his fists, staring at the talking crow, cold sweat trickling down — the worst thing in the Hunting Ground is information asymmetry, the opponent knows everything about you, but you know nothing about them.

”I have nothing to do with those wolf cubs!” he gritted his teeth, growling softly.

Both crows turned their gaze toward the young man.

”Ah, I remember now.” Crow No.7 softly corrected his previous statement: ”Indeed, he is no longer a Half-blood Werewolf... at the end of last term, he publicly extracted the Werewolf Bloodline from his body... then became a Northern District Wizard. That event caused quite a stir.”

Nicholas’s mood worsened.

He felt like a prisoner entering a confessional, where the priest outside the bars knew everything about him, yet all he could see was a small dark room around him.

”It was an accident.” The captain of the Fringe Hunting Team said hoarsely, whispering: ”We know nothing... truly nothing.”

Crow No.7 glanced at his companion.

”Maybe.” Crow No.3 nodded casually, flicking out a parchment: ”But we’re all Wizards, we should handle things by Wizard rules.”

The parchment floated lightly in front of Nicholas.

As expected, it was a Silence Contract, the standard version certified by Danghag, with unrigorous terms, simply requiring the four Hunters of the Fringe Hunting Team to remain silent for ten years about today’s incident in the forest.

Liu Fei Fei and Carmen helped him evaluate for a moment, confirming the contract was generally acceptable.

Nicholas breathed a slight sigh of relief.

”Our team has five people,” he looked at the two crows opposite, pointing out an error in the contract: ”You’ve only listed four here... other than that, no other problems.”

The parchment floated back to Crow No.3.

However, Crow No.3 did not take it, instead glancing down at the content, shaking his head: ”No... there are four... doesn’t your team only have four Wizards?”

Nicholas’s heart suddenly sank.

Beside him, the Fishman’s heavy breathing could be heard, the Warlock reached out to hold down the Fishman’s raised arm, silently gesturing to his companions.

”Iseni is also our team member,” he still held onto a glimmer of hope, trying hard to prove: ”This is certified by the Hunting Committee...”

”Just a Fishman, neither a student of the school nor a proper Wizard.” Crow No.3’s tone was gentle but firm: ”Give him to us, as a testament to our friendship, isn’t that great? Speaking of which, the Campus Cup now even allows Fishmen to participate? Truly getting more degenerate.”

The last sentence was turned to Crow No.7.

Crow No.7 did not comment on this statement, instead glanced at the bronze spoon floating in front of Liu Fei Fei: ”Also that spoon.”

Pointing at the ’clue’ obtained after the Fringe Hunting Team’s selection, he added, ”That spoon too... then the four of you can find a hidden corner, stay safely until the competition ends.”

”Ranking in the top ten of the school hunting is already an excellent achievement.” Crow No.3 sighed, mood seemingly worsening: ”Especially considering your team was formed less than a month ago... must admit, sometimes luck is more important than choice or effort...”

”The Hide and Pounce, Strike with Radiant Light!”

With a short incantation, the Ruby Ring on Nicholas’s right hand suddenly shone, emitting a dazzling red glow, instantly flooding the forest land. Simultaneously, a sharp and piercing sound erupted from all directions, as if hundreds of iron brushes were simultaneously scraping glass sheets.

Just a moment later, Liu Fei Fei opened the Law book, casting an identical spell: ”The Hide and Pounce, Strike with Radiant Light!”

But unlike Nicholas, Liu Fei Fei’s spell produced a louder sound, like several thunder strikes around everyone’s ears, and the strong light it created was white, mixing into the red light released by Nicholas, making the small forest clearing even more chaotic.

”Rise!”

Iseni shouted, his scales bristling, emitting threads of mist, entwining around his four companions, using himself as the axis, Lin Yan and Liu Fei Fei as the wheel, Nicholas as the carriage, and Carmen as the yoke, quickly deploying a Heaven Cart Formation — also known as the Zhen Staying Battle Formation — under the Axis Water Worm Formation.

A water-blue envelope instantly enveloped the five Hunters of the Fringe Hunting Team, the forest seemingly giving way to a half-transparent blue worm, without hesitation, plunging into the dark depths of the forest.

The effects of the ’Flash Bullet’ and ’Shock Grenade’ lasted only a few seconds, and the figures of the two crows reappeared, the two distinctly colored ’Austrian Guards’ shrouding around them, shielding them from noise and strong light damage, but also leading to their failure to immediately stop the Fringe Hunting Team’s escape.

Crow No.7 hesitated: ”Should we chase?”

”It’s rare for a Fishman from Lin Zhong Lake to venture into the forest... such a strong test subject is seldom seen.” Crow No.3 dug his ears, appearing somewhat indifferent: ”For the school, the difference between one or two hunting teams being attacked isn’t much... but for us, multiple covers might result in even better effects.”

After speaking, he tossed the Fireflies in his hand into the air:

”Origin allows the peach worm, flying desperately like a bird!”

The little bugs struggled in the spell light, quickly transforming into a fierce Blue Great Crow, flapping its wings, cawing, hovering briefly in mid-air, then immediately diving into the depths of the forest.
