High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2071: Chapter 292: If One Expels God from Their Heart

Zheng Qing stared intently, realizing that what he thought was a dark cloud was actually a swarm of thin-waisted black bees emerging in groups, densely packed, their wingbeats sounding like muffled thunder.

Along with the bees’ agitation, the grass on the ground seemed to have received a powerful growth spell, crazily extending their slender leaves like rope loops, like shackles, or like arms reaching from the ground, waving wildly in all directions, dragging down everything they clutched.

Nearby, the Fringe Hunting Team was already in dire straits under the continuous assault.

Just as Xiao Xiao said, whether to leave or to help requires immediate decision-making.

Yet Zheng Qing still hesitated.

What made him uneasy was precisely the diversity of magical creatures attacking the ’Axis Water Worm’—the grass on the ground, the blue bird in the sky, the thin-waisted black bees, and the tiger driving ghost servants—all belonging to different species, somehow collaborating in this confined space to attack the Fringe Hunting Team, naturally arousing suspicion.

Crack!

A sound like a thunderbolt, as the tiger’s thick tail forcefully swept, snapping a tree with a cumulative trunk diameter, and if this sweep hit the ’Axis Water Worm,’ it would certainly scatter the Fringe Hunting Team’s battle formation.

Zheng Qing gritted his teeth, striving to shield out the screams from the ’Axis Water Worm,’ scanning the surroundings, trying to locate the source of his unease.

Beside him, Xiao Xiao suddenly spoke: ”Do you remember why we’re here?”

”Wasn’t it your divination that led us here?”

Zheng Qing was somewhat distracted—the chaos outside the barrier, the little figures in his head arguing incessantly over whether to save or not, and the unease in his heart made it difficult for him to focus.

Xiao Xiao seemed not to hear the young cost student, continuing: ”...this area is the hunting ground prepared by the school for the ’School Hunting Competition,’ and the destination we’re searching for cannot be precisely directed by any pointing magic here... You could understand it as the school having applied a very clever stealth magic to the final hunting ground... Although magic can’t directly pinpoint the location, it can guide the hunting teams in the ’right’ direction.”

The words were both verbose and awkward, yet unexpectedly ear-catching.

Zheng Qing unconsciously listened seriously, but at this moment couldn’t help interrupting: ”What is the ’right’ direction? If there’s a right direction, can’t the right destination be found?”

”This is the difference between wizard thinking and magic logic.”

Xiao Xiao tapped his finger on his forehead, very patiently explaining: ”Often, the ’correct’ as understood by magic and the ’correct’ as understood by wizards have subtle differences... For example, if magic believes that staying away from the Silent Forest is safest, then the direction it guides could lead the Absolution outside the Silent Forest, totally contrary to our actual destination; or if magic thinks the Atonement Hunting Team needs prey, it might lead the team to a Houdou’s lair...”

”You’re saying magic has its own thoughts?” Zheng Qing felt amused.

”No, it’s the logic of magic.”

Xiao Xiao very seriously corrected Zheng Qing’s terminology: ”Magic doesn’t exist as a concept that involves thought; modern magic theory doesn’t explicitly explain this. According to Dimensionism, ’When we can’t handle an unknown concept, we might as well categorize it as a dimension’... In conclusion, in the current environment, relying on magic to find the finals venue is purely a gamble...”

”What exactly are we talking about!”

Zheng Qing impatiently interrupted Xiao Xiao again, subconsciously glancing at the ’Axis Water Worm’ dodging desperately: ”Stop wasting time discussing how many angels can stand on a pinhead!”

The Fringe Hunting Team’s situation was already very bad.

The envelopes of the Zhen Staying Battle Formation were becoming tattered under the dual attack of the blue raven and thin-waisted black bees, clearly revealing a few panicked faces inside.

The large tiger lowered its tail, prowling around the battlefield, driving ghost servants to harass and stall, watching like a hawk, growling deeply from its throat as if ready to pounce at any moment.

And on the ground, those weeds had already given up individual fighting, entwining and interweaving with each other, creating thick, sturdy grass ropes, waving gently in mid-air like seaweed, vaguely constructing an all-encompassing net over the field.

Time was running short for both Fringe and Absolution.

”We’re talking about ’choice.’”

The Diviner of the Atonement Hunting Team calmly replied: ”Remember a few days ago when we discussed what ’principles’ to uphold during the competition and what ’correct’ actions to take? Perhaps magic has brought us such an opportunity. Just like now, Fringe is our opponent, and there are surely malicious entities hidden outside. Staying on might have a hundred valid reasons; continuing to wait while waiting for Nicholas to be hurt to lure out the lurking danger also makes sense.”

”So we should go out.”

Zheng Qing finally calmed down, slowly sorting out his thoughts: ”Perhaps this behavior is hard to describe as ’rational,’ but it’s undeniably ’right.’”

”Some things can be left undone but not avoided.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, nodding with satisfaction: ”...just like that popular saying in Atlas—if people drive God from their hearts, Satan will climb into that position.”

”What do you all think?” Zheng Qing looked at the other teammates.

The red-faced male wizard tugged at his glove, his lips curling into a sinister smile: ”Should’ve gone out long ago... Saving that tiger hide for me, I want to make a fur vest for Grandpa.”

The fat wizard held that drop of Bo Fu blood, emitting a bluish glow all over, muttering: ”You’re the captain, you decide...”

As for Mister Wolfman, it didn’t matter to him, he simply shrugged: ”You’re asking a Starry Sky Academy student whether to fight?”

Zheng Qing’s smile flashed briefly, then he announced the battle plan he had prepared: ”Doctor, prepare the Bind Chaos Spell! Fatty, aim the Weapons Stop Curse at those thin-waisted black bees! Elders, gentlemen, prepare the Light Destruction Combination Spell... After one volley of spells, insert the Second Rank Battle Formation directly into the battlefield, grab the ’Axis Water Worm’ and run... Don’t get embroiled with the lurking danger... Fatty, stabilize the battle formation! ... Ultimately, everyone, ’A lion uses all its might to hunt even a rabbit,’ don’t give the enemy any chances!”

”Tsk, what a pity about that hide.” Zhang Ji Xin listened to this arrangement, regrettably glancing at the big fat tiger, but didn’t oppose Zheng Qing’s strategy.

”Don’t worry, once we get Fringe out, I’ll have Zhu Si buy you an even bigger tiger!” Zheng Qing pounded his chest confidently.
