High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2086: Chapter 307: Doctor Makes Money

After hesitating for a moment, he finally had the doctor draft a very hasty Silence Contract.

”It’s not that I don’t trust you,”

While the other three pinched their noses to sign, the young scholarship student seemed apologetic but remained resolute: ”It’s just in case, to remind you before you accidentally slip up...”

”So you’re making us lose control whenever we mention that name?” The Fat Wizard rolled his eyes, disgruntled, yet his curiosity drove him to sign his name on the parchment.

”It’s not losing control, just generates an extremely strong urge to use the restroom.” Zheng Qing corrected very seriously—if they really lost control in public, it would be way too embarrassing. Even if the Fat Man was willing to sign, the other two wouldn’t.

”Did you consider that I’m taking ’Introduction to Mysticism’ this semester, and there’s a good chance it will mention this term?” Zhang Ji Xin carelessly signed his name, then belatedly realized.

This genuinely surprised Zheng Qing.

He hesitated for a moment: ”Perhaps... change it to itching all over when mentioning the name? Or tripping over? How about your tongue gets tied?”

The young scholarship student recalled that spell the Sin Bearer cast last night.

”Forget it, forget it, we’ve signed the names, no more fuss.”

The Red-faced Male Wizard waved his hand dismissively: ”At most, I’ll just take a sick leave for any courses related to this term... Isn’t that why I chose such a convenient course... Now it’s your turn, what were you doing so mysteriously on Saturday night?”

Zheng Qing looked around, tapped the Law book, carefully raised a barrier, then began to recount his experiences in detail to his companions.

”It seems like a very interesting society.”

Xin Fat Man listened with wide eyes, a notebook mysteriously appearing under his hand, and a green feather pen beside it, eager to document the bizarre encounter his companion was describing: ”I bet they’ve definitely had illegal dealings with those Black Wizards in the Wandering Bar.”

”Is there even a need to bet?”

Zhang Ji Xin rubbed his chin, dismissive: ”My brother said the society conducted an anonymous survey earlier, and 70% of the students at the First University engaged in illegal transactions during their school years... including but not limited to casting minor evil curses on rivals, purchasing anonymous standard talismans, acquiring protected magical creature materials, and even procuring fresh commoner corpses...”

”What do they do with commoners’ corpses?” Zheng Qing was easily distracted.

This time, the Red-faced Male Wizard hesitated slightly before uncertainly answering: ”Apparently, commoners born at specific times can be made into puppet zombies... though they’re not quite the same as those Zombie Clan ones.”

He spoke while uneasily shifting his seat, carefully looking around, and only relaxed after noticing the faint glow of the sound insulation barrier: ”...This is quite taboo, especially disliked by the Moon Council, so it’s best not to meddle.”

Zheng Qing nodded seriously, then turned to the Fat Wizard, warning: ”These matters must not make it into the papers, don’t forget you just signed a Silence Contract!”

The green feather pen, which had been dancing by the notebook, visibly wilted. Xin Fat Man sighed as he put away his pen and notebook, prompting the young scholarship student to feel a bit relieved.

Beside them, Doctor Xiao had unknowingly started rolling up his sleeves to do his homework again.

Zheng Qing poked him in surprise.

”Aren’t you going to give your own opinion?” He felt this was unlike the usual Doctor.

”Opinion?”

Xiao Xiao mumbled without lifting his head: ”Can opinions be exchanged for gold beans? Next week is Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas... Don’t you celebrate holidays when you’re dating? Is celebrating free? If I don’t work hard to earn money now, will I mooch during the holidays?”

The young scholarship student was left stunned by his words.

It took him a while to process, then he reached into the Grey Cloth Bag, rummaging out nine copper coins, lining them up in front of Xiao Xiao: ”Then let’s chat for nine copper coins?”

The doctor adjusted his glasses and unceremoniously accepted the copper coins.

”The school would never approve a certificate for a society suspected of illegal activities.” His first sentence shocked Zheng Qing, but the following made him even more confused: ”Of course, I’m not opposing your joining of what’s called the Seven Sins...”

”Wait, slow down, don’t rush.” Zheng Qing hastily fished out a silver dime from his pocket, politely slipped it into the doctor’s pocket: ”What do you mean by ’not possible to approve’?”

”It’s self-evident,” the doctor patted his pocket with satisfaction, giving him a sidelong glance: ”As the main enforcer of the Wizard’s Codex, the school can’t endorse an organization suspected of lawbreaking... But you mentioned that the official seals on those certificates felt genuine, indicating that the Seven Sins have access to key parts of the school’s administrative system, and fabricating a genuine-looking certificate isn’t any harder than issuing a real one.”

”So you don’t oppose me joining?”

”Those certificates are evidence that the Seven Sins is quite a capable organization.” Xiao Xiao tapped the edge of his ink box with his feather pen, analyzing calmly: ”Everyone in the organization doesn’t know each other, which sufficiently ensures your safety... and we do indeed need an alternative gray channel besides the Wandering Bar.”

”True, the Wandering Bar has too much focus.”

Xin Fat Man added from the side: ”Every year, newly recruited journalists for the campus newspaper stake out at the Wandering Bar for stories, it’s almost become a tradition... I bet the Trident Sword or other institutions have similar ’traditions’.”

Xiao Xiao’s feather pen was soaked with ink, preparing to resume his homework.

Zheng Qing noticed this and suddenly had a thought.

”Do you think,” he hesitated, poking the doctor’s arm: ”we should run some financial operations in our store? Like that Mammon last night... lending a little money to clients without it... seems quite profitable.”

The Fat Wizard looked at his captain in shock, as if seeing him for the first time.

Xiao Xiao also gave him a surprised glance, but his response was unexpected by the young scholarship student.

”We’ve been doing that all along?” The doctor adjusted his glasses with a face full of disbelief: ”Why do you think our store turned a profit so quickly? But our operations are all small-scale, priced in gold beans, and the interest rates are ’very reasonable’... if I recall, you were the one who decided our store’s name, D and K Ding Ding Finance and Pest Control Company... forgotten already?”

Zheng Qing looked blank.

He truly hadn’t known, always thinking the store merely sold some special Fishman and Mouse People’s products, along with Sin Bearer’s catches. As for the accounting ledgers Fox Five gave him, he merely skimmed through, saw there were no losses, and threw them aside with a grin.
