Chapter 1744: Chapter 488: The Rat Immortal’s Choice

”...Those fairies in the mirror are the most detestable, they always change their appearance, pretending to be your friends or someone else, and then while you sleep, they secretly eat the flesh off your body.”

”The worst part is, the mirror retains those vague memories we leave when we look into it, then the fairies steal them, mimicking the scenes in the memories to confuse people.”

”Many little wizards who just entered the mirror were led away by those fairies, and in the end, not even their bones could be found... me? I’m smart; I noticed their mischief the first night, and hid immediately...”

”Juice is the best at playing hide and seek!” Beside her, a tall warlock patted the little witch’s head, quietly praising her.

”That’s only natural!”

The little witch proudly scrubbed her nose, too busy to swallow the delicious pastry in her mouth, quickly adding, ”I don’t just play hide and seek, I also help others! A long, long time ago... hmm, let me think when... I kind of can’t remember.”

Another slender jade-like hand reached over from the side, pinching the little witch’s puffed cheek, softly saying, ”Eat slowly, no one will take it from you... If you can’t remember, then don’t think about it. My Juice can say whatever she wants, and mom is listening.”

Perhaps Juice gave the little witch some inspiration, she reached out and took a glass of orange juice from the table in front of her, drinking a few gulps, finally freeing her mouth, and let out a satisfied breath.

”Ah.”

The little witch sighed with an old-fashioned tone, ”Everything in the mirror is good, just not much to eat... The album you gave me, I didn’t even leave the two hard skins under the eggplant stem and the tender skin under the chicken’s beak... where was I just now?”

”You were talking about helping others in the mirror,” the tall warlock reminded gently.

”Oh, right! Helping others!”

Zhu Si had an epiphany, raised her little fist, and clapped it into her hand, ”That time I saw a Big Wizard in the mirror... um, not the powerful kind of Big Wizard, but an old warlock, feels already adult... but as silly as a six or seven-year-old kid, barging into the mirror recklessly, and even talking to the fairies...”

”If I hadn’t quietly told him what to do, he would surely have been eaten by the fairies in the mirror. But he was generous and gave me lots of Mystical Grain leaves... At that time, I had long run out of Mystical Grain leaves.”

”But who am I? I’m Juice who doesn’t take rewards without merit! So at that time, I made a painful decision to treat him to a grand feast, consuming all my meat dishes for a week... no, seems like two weeks...”

At this point, the little witch smacked her lips, seeming unable to restrain the saliva gushing from her mouth, looked eagerly at the familiar yet unfamiliar figures beside her: ”I still want to eat that pickled pepper boneless chicken feet, is there any left?”

”Yes, yes, there’s plenty,” the tall witch answered softly, reaching forward with a finger: ”Look, isn’t that dish right there?”

Zhu Si blinked and stared forwards, indeed finding another plate of tender white chicken feet on the table in front of her, lying in the clear vinegar sauce, adorned with a few green scallions and cilantro, emitting a tempting fragrance that made one drool at the scent.

A bit further away, on the table were also braised chicken, braised duck, cured meat, roasted fish, rabbit fillet, colorful salads, an array of pastries, trays loaded with grapes, oranges, pineapples, and juices, milk, lemon soda, all the delicious things that once appeared in her dreams, now were all present for her to enjoy freely, without worrying about overeating.

Further away, there were broad, soft sofas opposite the dining table, and on the wall behind the sofas hung a large oil painting of snowy mountains and forests, with a little cat striving to jump up from the floor as if trying to reach the sofa. A few fireflies were flitting their wings above the dining table, casting a soft hue.

Vaguely, one could also hear the brisk piano melody, accompanied by joyful chords, echoing in this small yet warm room filled with an air of satisfaction.

Click!

Outside the window, the night was pitch black, lightning flashed, illuminating the swirling thick clouds in the sky. A gray Giant Dragon was tumbling and spiraling within the clouds. Behind the clouds, rolling thunder rumbled one after another, making the window panes buzz.

The little witch instinctively shifted, nestling her head closer to the warm embrace behind her.

Beside her, the tall warlock stood up, moved to the window, and gave it a strong tug, pulling the heavy curtains shut, securely keeping the lightning, thunder, and night outside the pale gray drapes.

The whole room fell back into a warm, comfortable, and pleasant light.

The little witch held half a banana in her left hand, a braised chicken leg in her right, with a little cream on the corner of her mouth, chewing on the boneless chicken feet she had just eaten, and squinted her eyes contentedly.

Beside her, the tall witch affectionately patted her shoulder, seeming to want her to eat slower, but ultimately did not speak, instead turning to look at the warlock by the window, her tone hardening a bit:

”How long?”

”You can stay here for as long as you like,” the warlock answered gently.

The witch’s expression softened somewhat: ”Don’t think that just because of this I can forgive you... she shouldn’t be here... she deserves a better place.”

”I think so too.”

”Think?” The witch’s expression turned strict again: ”Just thinking isn’t enough... What are you planning to do? You have a way, don’t you, you’ve always had a way.”

By the end, the strictness on the witch’s face faded, turning into a bit of pleading.

The warlock was silent for a long time.

So long that Zhu Si changed to a new plate of roast meat, so long that the fireflies under the ceiling hid in the corner, so long that the shadow behind the witch began to shake, struggle, reaching out with a few slender and fierce joints.

The warlock finally raised his head again, his eyes bright and shiny as he glanced at his daughter, then looked at his wife:

”Though I am still alive, there’s little difference from being dead. The same goes for you. We are like prey who have fallen into a mire, struggling desperately, thinking we can still get out.”

The witch let out a laugh that sounded like a sob, the shadow behind her shaking more violently.

The warlock slowly walked behind the witch, bent over, wrapped his arms around her shoulders, rested his head on her shoulder, murmuring, ”But we both know... we can’t get out anymore.”

He clearly felt the witch’s shoulders tremble slightly.

”When we are alive, let’s live together; when we die, let’s go happily together. Juice has grown up, she can take care of herself.”

”Let’s use the last bit of strength to send her out of this mire.”
