High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1713: Chapter 457: Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bang!

A heavy crash echoed above the battlefield.

The airborne dust, like roaring waves during high tide, surged, dragging with it shattered branches and the corpses of the fallen, spreading out in all directions.

Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu hid behind the black cat, which in turn hid behind a pile of withered giant willow branches, waiting for the gust to pass before cautiously poking out their heads to peer at the source of the crash.

At the center of the impact were two tall monsters standing horn to horn.

On the left was a short, stout creature, its body like a massive lump. Black tentacles flailed wildly around it, looking like spiraling whips; below were thick hooves like the stumps of trees; and on either side were huge mouths brimming with fangs, with dark green viscous liquid dripping from their corners, exhaling a stench of rotting plants.

The creature on the right was slender and tall, resembling a creature with long stilt-like legs. It had four long legs with reverse joints and hooves sharp like compasses, rooted firmly into the ground; its trunk-like body was covered with mouths full of fangs and numerous eyes of varying sizes, rolling back and forth black and white, giving off a dull yet savage air; atop its head, like the serpentine hair of Medusa, writhed thick tree-like branches.

These were the uninvited guests that had descended from the sky, disrupting the battlefield before the inner fortress, two of Shub-Niggurath’s followers. Under the great blessing magic of Urban IX, the principal of Atlas Academy, the crater made by their impact had been restored, and the two monsters had returned to the ground.

But the blessing could only heal the damaged environment; it could not quell animosity and hostility.

As soon as they saw each other, the two monsters roared, bellowed, and charged at each other, waving those tentacle-like branches—like two rams in rutting season dueling.

The battlefield, already somewhat narrow, was abruptly divided by the shockwaves of the monsters’ duel, forcing the black cat to halt its progress and seek a new, suitable path.

”Are they both black mountain goat progeny?”

Zheng Qing, clutching the black cat’s neck, observed the two battling monsters warily, unable to help but ask, ”How can they look so different?”

The black cat felt slightly uncomfortable and twitched its ears.

”Keep away from my ears!” it warned, glaring back at the warlock, ”I can hardly hear the sneaky noises approaching... If you get ambushed, remember I warned you.”

Zheng Qing obediently shifted down a bit.

The black cat turned back with satisfaction.

”A thousand black mountain goat progeny have a thousand appearances,” it explained absentmindedly while searching for a new path, ”Just remember their common traits—black whip-like tentacles, a lump-like body, many mouths on their body, and, all black mountain goat progeny look like tree-sheep druids gone awry.”

”Tree-sheep druids.” Zheng Qing chewed on this interesting term, finding it unexpectedly suitable to describe the monsters’ appearance.

”But they’re a bit too formidable,” Jiang Yu, unlike Zheng Qing, paid more attention to their threat level while observing the two black mountain goat progeny, ”They seem far more menacing than what was described in books... even more so than Sister Korma.”

Korma is a newly appointed Big Wizard.

Ordinary black mountain goat progeny usually hover around the tier of registered wizards, many not even reaching the standard of a registered wizard, being merely ’puppets’ who can only wield authority in some ignorant places by invoking ’The black mountain goat of the forest that breeds thousands of offspring.’

But the two black mountain goat progeny before them were clearly not ordinary.

The magical fluctuations around them rivaled the incarnations of many Outer Gods, enough to be called ’semi-mature black mountain goats.’

”Found it!”

The black cat interrupted the witch, lowered its body, and shouted, ”Hold on tight... Don’t worry about how formidable those two black mountain goats are, more monsters in the sky are watching them.”

”Let’s worry about ourselves and not provoke those monsters!”

With those words, the black cat dashed out of cover, returning to the battlefield, and along with it, many scarlet gazes locked onto the two faintly weaker presences on its back.

Bang!

The dull roar of the Beretta Double-Barrel rang in Zheng Qing’s ears; just five meters diagonally ahead, a leaping ape-like demon’s forehead blossomed with a bright blood flower, its body frozen midair, falling backward with its head tilted.

”What a waste.”

Jiang Yu sighed regretfully.

If in a hunting ground, the next step a hunter should take would be to pull out a small silver-handled knife and a wide-mouth bottle to start collecting the eyes, blood, and heart of the demon, parts with magical potency.

But this was a battlefield.

Zheng Qing only glanced at the toppled figure, making sure it posed no threat before immediately focusing on another flaming bull-shaped demon charging from the left, its crimson eyes and sharp horns gleaming with a cold light close at hand, unable to evoke further fear in the young wizard on government expense.

Bang!

The Remington in the warlock’s hand roared, blasting the charging demon midair. Compared to Jiang Yu, his fu bullet had more power, correspondingly, his attack was more impressive.

”I say, can’t you be a bit more understated?”

The black cat leaped left and right across the chaotic battlefield, dodging the spells falling over its head, while occasionally needing to smack away demons sneaking up from behind with its tail, ”Didn’t you notice you’re attracting more and more monsters?! Such high-intensity work... demands more pay!”

”You’re a cat, what do you need money for?”

Zheng Qing replied swiftly, while noticing an approaching winged sneaky rabbit demon silently swooping down from above, while Jiang Yu and the black cat’s tail were busy dealing with the horned monster snakes approaching from behind.

The Remington’s chamber was just emptied, requiring a breath for recharging; the warlock couldn’t think much, flicking his finger, and the Colt Python hanging at his waist suddenly lifted, its barrel spouting a stream of light.

Pat!

The sneaky rabbit burst into a ball of blood, splattering down, blinding the vision of the horned monster snake, allowing the black cat to jump aside and free itself from the snake’s entanglement.

”Money’s for... damn it!”

The black cat’s curse interrupted its reply. At the same time, it plunged its front paws into the soil, desperately trying to halt, its body bending like a bow, hind legs kicking forward since it braked too late, making the entire cat look like it was doing a complex gymnastic move.

Jiang Yu reacted quickly, flipping open the law book at his waist and slapping it forcefully:

”Binding Spell!”

Several slender vines emerged from the void, one end wrapping around the black cat, the other lifting the two young wizards who were airborne because the black cat had abruptly halted.

Whew!

The horned monster snake trailing them hadn’t expected the black cat to suddenly stop, unable to brake, and plowed straight through.

Then Zheng Qing watched as it broke into seven or eight pieces mid-movement.
