High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1717: Chapter 461: Rampaging

”Maintain your distance!”

”Victor has extremely high defenses... so don’t let that monster get close!”

”Thomas, check on Victor’s status.”

As the leader of the Teaching Assistant Hunting Team, Zhang Yu was the first to react. While gradually ceasing the Thunder Curse and Heavenly Punishment Curse, he raised another law book, aimed in the direction of the incoming Mi-go Emperor Bug, and shouted:

”Whether to cut or migrate, only sincere can carve!”

”Min Tianjiwei, Heavenly Descend the Snare!”

A faint green magical halo spread out, within a radius of several hundred meters, all the thick willow branches seemed to be grasped by invisible hands, severed at the base, peeled, and trimmed into swords, spears, and halberds; dozens of clay soldiers emerged from the ground to grasp these weapons.

A gigantic web of light descended from the sky, with the nodes of the net falling upon the clay soldiers, seemingly armour-clad in dazzling splendor, as their wooden weapons were sharpened, emitting chilling glints.

In just an instant, a lethal array was laid in the path of the Mi-go Emperor Bug. Unlike a battle formation, an array does not require a wizard to lead it; it only needs a sufficient supply of magic power to unleash its full potential.

The folds on the forehead of the Mi-go Emperor Bug, marked by light spots flickering rapidly, seemed to be contemplating, or perhaps mocking the wizards’ response.

The next moment, the monster charged headlong into the newly established battle array.

Zheng Qing could distinctly hear Hilda, standing before him, let out a heavy sigh of relief, causing the fur on the neck of the black cat at his feet to relax.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the young cost student leaned forward slightly, poking Hilda’s shoulder with the Charm Gun: ”Mr. Alfonso... do you use real names on the battlefield? That’s against the rules, isn’t it?”

During the Atonement Hunting Team’s training with the Judgement Hunting Team, the old hunters repeatedly emphasized that hunters must use code names to address each other in the hunting ground, otherwise, points would be deducted.

The fundamental reason for this rule is the need to prevent demons from capturing the wizards’ true names and cursing them during battles.

However, the assistants’ recent actions seemed unconventional.

Upon hearing the young wizard’s address, Hilda seemed uneasy, shivered slightly, glanced back at Zheng Qing, pushed aside his gun barrel, and corrected: ”Just call me Hilda...”

”Hilda,” Zheng Qing accepted the correction.

The assistant Mr. shrugged his shoulders, eventually relinquishing the argument on this trivial matter: ”Rules are dead, but people are alive. Following rules in the hunting ground is because breaking them results in point deductions... On the battlefield, life and death are determined in an instant, and the Alliance won’t send you to Danghag for trial just for calling a teammate by name.”

”Precisely because it concerns life and death, shouldn’t we be more cautious?” Jiang Yu, who had been listening for a while, finally couldn’t resist interjecting with a question.

Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly at this.

Hilda rubbed the copper ring on his nose, shrugged, and gave an example to illustrate:

”Illegal spells aren’t any less harmful to wizards than Nameless Curses, yet every year, wizards continue to experiment with them tirelessly... Why? Because there’s profit to be made. Nicknames are just nicknames; on the battlefield, calling out a teammate’s name might draw him out of an illusory world, whereas nicknames wouldn’t help.”

”In any case, it’s a very complex, very complex issue, not just black and white, or about following or not following rules.”

Although Hilda failed to fully clarify, Zheng Qing felt he grasped the essence of his answer. It’s like driving on the road; theoretically, you should obey speed limits, use turn signals rationally, avoid fatigue driving, etc., but in reality, the measure of these factors largely lies in the driver’s hand – finding a balance between theoretical rules and actual behavior is the foundation upon which order can manifest.

With this understanding, the young man felt the small sapling within his soul had become a bit more lively.

”Victor is still alive!”

Thomas’s shout came from afar, followed by an incantation:

”The wild geese fly, solemn and majestic its feathers!”

With magical power surging, a gray goose rapidly appeared next to Thomas. He helped Victor onto the goose’s back, secured him, and patted the goose’s neck.

The goose cooed affectionately, flapped its wings, plummeted a few meters forward, and vanished into thin air in an instant.

Zheng Qing didn’t know whether the goose was the assistant’s pet or if it was a special effect of the magic, but he was sure that the injured assistant was now in a safe place.

Earlier, the combined magical attack by the assistant and the two young wizards had already ripped open a huge breach in the encircling swarm of demons; afterward, Zhang Yu’s Thunder Curse and Heavenly Punishment Curse plowed the entire area into scorched earth. Apart from the bizarre Mi-go Emperor Bug, almost no demons were left standing.

And now, with the Mi-go Emperor Bug confined within the array, the wounded evacuated, and a path opened forward, everything seemed to be back on track.

But just as Murphy’s Law suggests, things are never as simple as they seem, and bad things are bound to happen.

The very moment the goose disappeared, the faint green magic array binding the Mi-go Emperor Bug shattered with a boom. The enormous web of light reappeared before the people’s eyes, violently flickering for a moment before turning into a cascade of light fragments; charred wooden soldiers and their weapon fragments flew in all directions, with one wooden knife stabbing obliquely into the ground before the black cat.

The cracks on the blade and the notches on the edge narrated the ferocity inside the array to the wizards.

Zheng Qing’s pupils constricted as he looked up.

The pink Mi-go Emperor Bug had lunged at the next purple-haired witch blocking its path - compared to before entering the array, it had sustained almost no damage - its oscillating sheaths cast clear remnants in the charred, acrid air, resonating like faintly ringing swords matching the glowing spots on its forehead, displaying an impressively stunning and sharp brilliance.

”Peach and tender, resplendent in bloom!”

The witch’s slightly sharp incantations pierced the air, and afar, a deep red peach blossom slowly bloomed on the ground, enveloping the witch and the Mi-go Emperor Bug.

The next moment, the witch, coughing blood and staggering, appeared beside Hilda, with sparks still dancing off the fringe of her robe. At the same time, Zhang Yu landed before the black cat.

”It’s the Great Wizard Rank!”

Although the leader of the Teaching Assistant Hunting Team still appeared composed, his tone and subsequent arrangements seemed particularly desperate: ”Azur, take the black cat and break through to the rear; there’s another team of wizards approaching five hundred meters away... Hilda, you’re coming with me to block this monster.”
