Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 596: Chapter 319: Tears of Joy (Third Update)_2

Lawrence Winters got nervous, ”Then what exactly is their motive? Is it targeting Joyce Shaw, or targeting...”

She couldn’t help but glance at Kenneth Osborne, sweat forming in her palms.

Francis Johnson understood her implication, sighed, and said, ”From the information and evidence we’ve gathered, it’s possible their motive targets a type of person, rather than an individual.”

”Then it’s just a certain type of talent?” Lawrence Winters moved closer to Kenneth Osborne, already thinking about how to protect Kenneth Osborne’s safety.

”Because if they’re targeting a certain type of talent, Kenneth excels in technology, wouldn’t he be even more dangerous?” Lawrence Winters felt her heart tighten.

Seeing her so worried, Francis Johnson smiled slightly, ”Let me finish, it’s currently just our speculation, and besides Joyce Shaw, they haven’t actually taken further action, so their motive might only be targeting Joyce Shaw, because she happened to discover something.”

Of course, these words didn’t comfort Lawrence Winters.

Her mind was racing, ”So it’s possible in all scenarios? Have you investigated for so long and only found out this much?”

Kenneth Osborne hurriedly tugged at Lawrence Winters’ hand, whispering, ”Nora, be polite.”

He worried that Lawrence would anger Francis Johnson, considering it way more consequential than angering the Sheldon Family.

Francis Johnson understood his concern, smiled at Kenneth Osborne, and said, ”I wouldn’t be so narrow-minded, you’re overthinking. Besides, Lawrence didn’t say anything wrong, which is why we still have many doubts about this case, and came to warn you.”

He spread his hands, ”But don’t worry, we’ve already initiated protective measures, Joyce and Kenneth both have dedicated protection services. As long as they continue to act, we’ll find some clues.”

Lawrence Winters caught the undertone in his words and quickly asked, ”So does that mean they haven’t continued their actions?”

Francis Johnson nodded, ”Yes, that’s what we’re puzzled about. Of course, maybe they are particularly patient, waiting for us to let our guard down before striking a deadly blow, so we must remain vigilant.”

Kenneth Osborne, not wanting Lawrence to worry too much, smiled, ”Actually, I’m doing fine over here, there’s been no technical progress, so if their target is our AI technology, they can relax.”

”Without a technological breakthrough, they won’t be interested in us.”

Lawrence Winters was not comforted.

Her expression was somewhat stunned, ”...But you will eventually make a technological breakthrough, then wouldn’t it be dangerous? Kenneth, shouldn’t we stop doing research and just use the existing technology for something instead?”

Kenneth Osborne laughed, ”You have so much faith in me? I don’t even know if I will have a breakthrough.”

”Of course you will, isn’t that obvious?” Lawrence Winters had more confidence in Kenneth Osborne than in herself.

Francis Johnson looked at them with a smile and took out a small brocade box from his pocket, ”I just found out you got your certificate, and I don’t know if you’ll have a wedding, but here’s a gift for you.”

Lawrence Winters accepted it with surprise, opening it to find a crystal-clear amber pendant inside.

Within the honey-colored transparent amber, there was a tiny creature resembling a legendary dragon, sealed within.

Lawrence Winters was shocked, ”...Is that a dragon?! Is this real amber?”

”This little creature is called a leafy seadragon, extremely small, but indeed its appearance resembles dragons from ancient legends, originating from overseas waters,” Francis Johnson explained, ”But how it got trapped in amber, that’s a mystery of time.”

He added, ”I once went on a business trip to an overseas island, lived there for a while, and found this. Then I brought it back, polished it, and made it into a pendant.”

Actually, Francis Johnson found several, intending to gift them upon returning.

Lawrence Winters was full of praise, smiling, ”You’re so thoughtful, President Johnson! I really like this gift!”

Wearing it as a necklace, it looks impressive!

This could indeed be a dragon at one’s chest...

While they chatted, the door to the delivery room opened, and Joyce was wheeled out.

Lawrence Winters and the others quickly gathered around.

Joyce’s complexion was somewhat pale, but she seemed in good spirits.

Upon seeing Lawrence Winters, she immediately smiled, reaching out to Lawrence with a weak voice, ”Lawrence, Joyce and I had our baby.”

As soon as Lawrence Winters heard it, tears began to fall.

Without even realizing it, she reached out to hold Joyce’s hand, and only noticed when the tears fell on her own hand.

Despite her smile, Joyce’s tears also flowed slowly.

Finally, Sister Sherry arrived.

With the click-clack of her high heels echoing down the hallway, she walked up beside Lawrence Winters.

She looked at Lawrence, then at Joyce, and held both their hands, ”You both are crying tears of joy. Where’s the baby? Let me see, let me see.”

”The nurse took him to the nursery, needs a bath and monitoring, you can see him tomorrow,” Joyce’s mother said with a smile, wiping Joyce’s tears.

With Sister Sherry’s interruption, the ache in Lawrence’s chest quickly dissipated.

She quickly stepped aside, saying, ”Joyce just gave birth, she needs rest. You should take her to the ward. Is it a private room? If not, we’ll visit her again tomorrow.”

”Room availability is tight, she’s sharing,” Joyce’s mother hastily replied, ”And it’s late tonight, thank you for visiting, but please rest first. If you’re available, visit us at home in a few days.”

New mothers really don’t have the energy for guests.

Besides, after being discharged, she would need to recuperate.

Lawrence Winters and Sister Sherry, though childless, understood this basic fact.

After watching Joyce return to the ward, they left together.

In the parking lot, Lawrence Winters saw Ryan Sheldon, who had brought Sister Sherry, and enthusiastically greeted him.

Ryan Sheldon was also excited to see Lawrence and wanted to talk, but Sister Sherry, feeling a bit shy, urged Ryan to get in the car quickly, and they left.

It wasn’t until Lawrence Winters got into Kenneth Osborne’s car that she realized with surprise, pointing at the car Ryan Sheldon and Sister Sherry had left in, exclaiming, ”Are they together?!”
