Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 577: Chapter 309: Everyday Superstition (Second Update)

Nick Zeller’s face looked so sour it was almost unbearable.

But today was Lawrence Winters’ special day, what could he do about it?

Could he refuse?

Of course not!

”...A little sports car? What little sports car? I’ve told you, you can’t drive that kind of car! A sports car in your hands is a weapon of mass destruction!” Nick Zeller grumbled indignantly, ”Just buy a regular domestic car!”

Lawrence Winters wasn’t willing, dragging out his words, ”Uncle! What kind of uncle are you? Last time it was a BMW, now you just want to get rid of me with some thousands-of-dollars car? Are you trying to brush off a beggar?”

”You give beggars thousands of dollars?” Nick Zeller mocked her, waving his hand, ”Alright, alright, I’ll think about it some more!”

The people in the living room watched the banter between Nick Zeller and Lawrence Winters with smiles, feeling quite happy.

...

When they returned to Lawrence Winters’ room, Kenneth Osborne held Lawrence’s hand and said, ”Where’s your ring? Let me put it on for you.”

The last time they had had a tiff, they took off the rings and hadn’t worn them since.

Lawrence Winters quickly retrieved the ring and let Kenneth Osborne put it on for him, then asked, ”What about yours? If I don’t wear it, you won’t either?”

”...If you don’t wear it, what’s the point for me to wear it alone?” Kenneth Osborne smiled, ”It’s reciprocal, you can’t bully me.”

”When did I ever bully you?” Lawrence Winters rolled his eyes at him, ”You’re such a sly one.”

Kenneth Osborne hugged her, resting his chin on top of Lawrence Winters’ head, softly saying, ”Be careful when you drive next time. You almost gave me a heart attack today.”

Lawrence Winters replied, ”I didn’t expect you to be such a good fighter... Don’t start fights easily in the future. They’re like stone; you’re porcelain. It’s not worth breaking.”

The two quietly embraced, enjoying a tender and peaceful moment.

...

Lawrence Winters and Kenneth Osborne picked up their certificates and put the engagement rings back on.

Although they wore them on their middle fingers, they would switch to their ring fingers after the wedding.

After a few days, Lawrence Winters finally finished her vacation; the wounds on her arms were healed, and the lost weight had returned.

She wore her engagement ring to work, and Edward Foster noticed it immediately.

His gaze dimmed slightly, but he maintained his composure and graciously smiled, saying to Lawrence Winters, ”Lawrence, Lucas’s TV series will wrap up in a month; what have you planned for him afterward?”

Lawrence Winters winked playfully, ”Of course there’s a plan, how could I let go of such a cash cow?”

Edward Foster was amused by Lawrence Winters’ demeanor.

To meet a charming beauty who can make you happy, how rare is that!

But Kenneth Osborne was so annoying...

Edward, like a child who had always gotten what he wanted, had suddenly found something very difficult to obtain, deepening his obsession.

Now, the more he looked at Lawrence Winters, the more pleasing and comforting she seemed.

To avoid losing his composure, he decided to reduce his direct interactions with Lawrence by visiting the set.

However, before going, he rashly asked Lawrence, ”I’m going to visit Lucas’s set, do you want to come?”

”Sure.” Lawrence Winters picked up her bag, ”I’ve been wanting to go, now I don’t have to take a taxi.”

”Take a taxi? Don’t you have your own car?” Edward Foster looked surprised, though he was inwardly delighted, ”Why take a taxi? Is it in for maintenance?”

”Oh, don’t mention it.” Lawrence Winters shook her head, pouting, ”There was an accident yesterday, and the car is probably totaled. I need to get another one.”

”Oh, really.” Edward Foster’s heart pounded, acting nonchalantly, ”...Isn’t Kenneth thinking of buying you one?”

”He wishes I’d never drive, so he wouldn’t think of buying one for me.” Lawrence Winters laughed, ”Actually, the real reason is we’re just ordinary people; we have to budget carefully. — I’m asking Uncle to get one for me.”

”Regular cars aren’t that expensive, right?” Edward Foster walked out of the company building with Lawrence Winters, ”Isn’t Kenneth’s car a Tesla? Isn’t that car quite pricey?”

”Actually, it’s just for show.” Lawrence Winters laughed, ”It’s great for the environment, but performance-wise, it’s not comparable to gasoline cars, especially in acceleration. Have you seen any race car using an electric vehicle?”

”Do you like racing? Which brand of racing cars do you like? I’m not too knowledgeable, I just watch for fun.”

”Of course. The foreign brands are all pretty good; they play around with racing a lot. Besides, the second son of the Sheldon Family wants me to be his racing mentor!” Lawrence Winters covered her mouth, laughing gleefully.

Ryan Sheldon, really an interesting person.

The Foster Family and the Sheldon Family have some connections, so Edward Foster was quite familiar with the Sheldon kids.

He nodded, self-deprecatingly said, ”The two sons of the Sheldon Family are really good, not that I’m trying to butter them up. With someone like me, I have all sorts of the young rich brats’ bad habits, but the Sheldon Family, the eldest and the second are indeed free from such flaws and handle things so well.”

”Second brother Sheldon says he won’t inherit the family business and sticks to it, even if it means freeloading outside to play with racing.”

Lawrence Winters laughed out loud, ”Oh Edward, you still say the second brother Sheldon has no such bad habits. Do you have a misunderstanding about the vices of the wealthy?!”

”Is car racing something ordinary people can afford to play?!”

Edward Foster chuckled, ”I never really thought about it that way. So, do you think I have a lot of quirks?”

”To be fair, Edward, you’re actually pretty decent. You’ve got your family background, you haven’t caused any trouble for them or society, you’re practically a model youth,” Lawrence Winters complimented Edward with a smile.

Edward was so pleased that even when he saw Lucas Harlow, he was still smiling.

...

Lucas Harlow was filming the last month of his wrap-up shooting.

He had just returned from shooting on location and was currently staying at a film base on the outskirts of Capital City.

Upon arriving at the base, Edward was first escorted to the meeting room by the executive producer and director for a meeting, while Lawrence Winters wandered around the set, seeing everyone busy and enthusiastic, feeling invigorated.

She checked out each studio and was amazed to find that one crew could have multiple scenes running simultaneously, with different executive directors overseeing them.

But despite watching for a long time, she didn’t see Lucas Harlow.

Lawrence greeted the staff while taking out her phone to call Lucas Harlow’s assistant, Jason.

As soon as Jason saw that it was Lawrence’s number, he immediately answered and whispered, ”Lawrence, thank goodness you’re here! Please help us out with Lucas! That Miss Sheldon has been visiting the set every day recently, and Lucas has to accompany her to eat and play, and he can’t even film!”

”Miss Sheldon? Which Miss Sheldon?” Lawrence felt a thud in her heart, her head starting to throb.

Could it be the one she was thinking of?

It turned out to be exactly the one she was thinking of.

Jason, with a pained expression, said, ”It’s the third Miss of the Sheldon Family, Ruby Sheldon! She’s always calling him ’Uncle,’ and I can’t just kick her out. Lucas is particularly courteous to her... He hasn’t filmed for several days now.”

Lawrence thought for a moment, walked to a quiet spot with her phone, and whispered, ”What about the executive producer and director on set? Do they not interfere?”

A day of stoppage on set meant money was bleeding away.

Lawrence couldn’t believe the crew would just let it go.

Jason sighed, ”The Sheldon Family is filthy rich. Madam Sheldon directly told the director that whatever the loss is, she’d pay double, as long as her daughter could happily play here for a few days.”

Lawrence: ”...”

”Damn, they’re really rich...” Lawrence muttered a bit sourly.

Thinking about how she had to budget carefully just to buy a small sports car, that envy turned into genuine heartache.

Comparisons really are odious.

Since the Sheldon Family was paying Lucas Harlow to ”take care of the kid,” the entire crew tacitly agreed to it.

”So where is Lucas now?” Lawrence rubbed her temples, wondering if she had come at a bad time and should just go back.

She began to have a sense to avoid meeting Ruby Sheldon, because every time she met her, nothing good happened.

Lawrence, due to her professional connections, was superstitious in her daily life.

She believed that the bad relationship between her and Ruby Sheldon was due to incompatible astrological signs.

Lawrence, holding her phone, walked out from the secluded spot, just in time to hear someone talking.

”Uncle, what kind of Aunt would you like me to find for you? I think that Sister Lawrence is really nice. Have you considered her?”

It was Ruby Sheldon’s kind of sweet, mellifluous voice, which would be quite pleasant to listen to, as long as she wasn’t talking about Lawrence herself.

Lawrence also sighed.

Ruby Sheldon clearly knew that she had married Kenneth Osborne, yet she still talked like this in front of Lucas. What’s her agenda?

Lawrence simply leaned against the wall next to Lucas’s door, crossed her arms, and eavesdropped openly and legitimately.

Inside the room, Lucas Harlow was reviewing some of the recent footage, smiling while he said, ”Consider? Why not? Your mom has probably considered all the eligible unmarried women in the city.”

His dad, wanting him to return and take over the family business, had always asked Autumn Stetford to find a suitable marriage candidate for Lucas.

Richard Stetford was an old-fashioned man who always believed that a man could play around as much as he wanted before marriage.

After marriage, it’s time to settle down and focus.

Lucas Harlow was already twenty-seven, without even a steady girlfriend, and Richard Stetford was starting to get anxious.

Ruby Sheldon, sitting cross-legged on the carpet, looked up at Lucas with a cheeky smile, ”Uncle, if you really fancy Sister Lawrence, I can put in a good word for you! My mom listens to me the most, and if I speak for you, my mom will definitely help you achieve your wish!”

Lucas Harlow smiled slightly, keeping his eyes fixed on the screen, and said, ”There’s no need to trouble the young lady with this. I can handle it myself.”

”But I find Sister Lawrence really clever. She has a childhood sweetheart boyfriend, Mr. Osborne, who is very handsome! Uncle, you know I like you the most, but I must say, Mr. Osborne looks better every time I see him!”

”Then Uncle, you seem to have a crush on her, my second brother always praises her, and then there’s Edward, who revolves around her too.”

”Clever girls really are popular with men! — Must be innate, right?”
