Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1024: Chapter 570: Stay With Me Until Dawn (2)

Xu Xin looked at her and suddenly smiled slightly.

”Have you ever thought that I might be the most likely one to be the traitor? I’ve been at the top of the rankings since the very first event. If it weren’t for their help, how could I maintain this position?”

”...You’re not, you can’t be. If you were, that creature wouldn’t have let me kill you.” Shi Wanyun continued to stand in front of him, looking at him, ”I was sent to kill you; you can’t be on their side.”

So does she only trust herself?

”Isn’t it possible that this is just a conflict between us? Otherwise, how would that creature have a photo of me with blood-marked tattoos on my face?”

Xu Xin narrowed his eyes slightly, looking at Shi Wanyun.

Shi Wanyun’s eyelashes trembled slightly.

”You...” Her lips parted lightly, not knowing what to say.

”Also, aren’t you curious why I possess the World Tree seeds that only those creatures have?”

Xu Xin stood up.

”Only those creatures you mentioned can become the owner of the World Tree, right?”

Shi Wanyun took a small step back.

Yeah...

Why?

Xu Xin walked to her side and whispered in her ear, ”Now, who do you think I am?”

”I...” Shi Wanyun stepped back again slightly, then forced a smile, ”You’re... joking, right?”

”Do you think I’m joking?” Xu Xin looked into her eyes from close range.

Shi Wanyun’s pupils quivered slightly.

”You...”

”I was joking back then.”

Xu Xin decided to stop there, shook his head with a smile, and sat back down on the sofa: ”What I said all has reasons; everyone in the Explorers knows. I’m an unequivocal good person, not a wolf.”

”...Is it funny?”

Shi Wanyun appeared a little dazed for a few seconds, then turned her head away, her tone already tinged with slight annoyance.

She almost believed that Xu Xin really had a problem just now.

Even now, she still harbored some doubts about the questions Xu Xin raised earlier.

”I just wanted to see your reaction.” Xu Xin glanced at her, ”Are you sleepy?”

”...Sleepy.” Shi Wanyun nodded gently, ”But you spooked me awake quite a bit.”

”If you’re sleepy, go to sleep first. This world is quite complicated; I’ll explain it to you in detail when you wake up.”

Shi Wanyun was slightly stunned, then understood Xu Xin’s meaning.

Does he really trust her now?

A slight curve appeared at the corner of her mouth: ”Okay, I understand.”

Then she didn’t linger any longer and turned to walk into the guest room.

Xu Xin decided to trust her.

Her performance during his probing was basically enough to determine she was on his side.

Although her expression didn’t change much, her actions and gaze showed that she truly knew nothing about it and also displayed shock and fear.

Hmm, she could be considered one of his own now.

It’s really troublesome.

Since the mutated beast contract couldn’t be effective anymore, whether someone is worth trusting is something he has to judge for himself.

Now he chose to trust Shi Wanyun.

Xu Xin sighed.

Trust doesn’t really matter; interests are the most suitable currency for maintaining interpersonal relationships.

Even if they were truly from the other side, as long as he could bring out the bargaining chips, he might still be able to turn them into his own.

But unfortunately, they currently couldn’t match the alien invaders and had nothing substantial to offer.

So they must be extra cautious.

However, once the World Tree truly grows, along with Crystal City, they should have decent bargaining chips in hand.

Shi Wanyun reminded him.

There’s still a possibility of having an insider like Shi Wanyun within Crystal City.

After all, they came as a group, and there might be one or several problematic individuals among them.

But for now, there’s no need to worry too much; the core information is mainly circulated among the Explorers.

As for the Explorers’ members...

His thought is that it shouldn’t be the case.

Of course, since Shi Wanyun brought it up, it needs to be verified; otherwise, it would be a thorn in his side.

Verifying this point isn’t too difficult.

Just need to find Yingying.

The members among the Explorers should theoretically all be from that original team.

And that Yingying is also a team member.

If she knows everyone, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

As for how to find Yingying...

Xu Xin opened his smartwatch and contacted Lou Fei’Er.

”...Hello...?” On the other end, Lou Fei’Er’s voice sounded very lazy and drowsy, clearly woken from sleep, ”Who is it...”

”It’s me, Xu Xin. Keep me company before dawn.”

”Oh... huh?!”

Lou Fei’Er was initially confused for a second, then instantly woke up, her voice slightly stumbling: ”Keep... keep you company? Huh? Right... now? Seriously... should I come to your treehouse? Or will you come over?”

Lou Fei’Er’s voice sounded a bit nervous.

”Did you misunderstand something...” Xu Xin shook his head helplessly, ”I want to take a look at the cave you discovered earlier.”

”The cave? Oh... the cave.” Lou Fei’Er sounded a bit disappointed, ”I thought... can’t we discuss this after sunrise? Be careful not to die from lack of sleep.”

”Time is pressing now; we need to make use of it efficiently.”
