Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1002: Chapter 562: The Hidden Paradise in the Treehouse (Part 2)

”So, although it looks large here, it doesn’t actually occupy much space on the whole tree.” No.5 smiled, ”Of course, only a few people own such a garden. After all, most areas of this tree are not meant for residence but serve other purposes.”

Shi Wanyun’s eyes flickered.

Other purposes... Does that mean the gene experiments?

”But even so, there is still plenty of leftover space here, and a small part remains empty, not being utilized.” No.5 continued walking along the stream, with Shi Wanyun following behind her.

”To be able to utilize most of this tree, you all are really impressive...” Shi Wanyun exclaimed.

No.5 looked at her, ”I mean, once you complete this task and return, you can also have a residential area like this.”

Shi Wanyun paused for a moment and said, ”Just myself? Wouldn’t that be a bit lonely...”

”Of course not.” No.5 pointed to the pavilion and buildings ahead, ”That place can accommodate many people. As long as they’re here, I can let them move in at any time; it’s just that I personally prefer tranquility.”

”Others can come in as well...”

”Of course, as I said, the owner set some unbreakable rules, but otherwise, hardly intervenes in our affairs. So...”

No.5 smiled slightly, ”If there is someone you care about, even if he doesn’t meet our requirements, you can still bring him in.”

”Can you bring other survivors here? Anytime?” Shi Wanyun immediately turned to No.5.

”As long as you have my status, naturally you can.” No.5’s voice carried a tempting tone, ”Your batch of survivors is still struggling in dire circumstances, right? If you have someone you’re worried about, you can naturally bring him over, and he will end his survival struggles in advance without facing any danger.”

”...Wouldn’t this violate the rules?” Shi Wanyun asked.

”Naturally not. But... since they didn’t come through selection, they can’t participate in our gene modification plan, unable to possess longevity or powerful physical capability like us.”

”...Wait a minute, ’they’? Can I bring many people?”

”Naturally, but not too many.” No.5 thought for a moment and said, ”Five or six people should be fine, at most seven or eight.”

”I see...”

Upon hearing this, Shi Wanyun felt her heart begin to stir wildly.

It’s a lie to say she isn’t tempted.

She now feels living in a place like this, far from crises, seems... incredibly attractive.

Those she brings here won’t have to participate in the gene modification plan, avoiding becoming those kinds of monsters.

No.5 also told her that they have gene mutations that don’t turn them into monsters, just like No.5 herself is no different from ordinary people, so she doesn’t need to worry overly.

Although she harbors extreme hatred and fear towards the monster she saw before, holding a deeply negative view toward it, yet...

Confronted with the fact that the other party hasn’t harmed her in any way.

Moreover, No.5 mentioned that the monster appears once or twice in over ten years, rarely causing any impact.

Although she is somewhat skeptical about the purpose of the gene plan, just offering a stable and luxurious dwelling in this crisis-ridden world and giving her hope to return to the original world...

She’s already anticipating this!

But...

Her task is to kill Xu Xin, the strongest survivor, who has the highest chance to lead most survivors to live.

Her savior.

...What should she do...

At this time, No.5 had already brought Shi Wanyun to the main gate of the courtyard and asked her, ”Want to come in and sit?”

”Hmm.” Shi Wanyun nodded.

The two walked into the courtyard.

It wasn’t the complex Chinese style courtyard Shi Wanyun had imagined.

Upon entering, there was just a small garden.

Rockery, pond, pavilion, everything was there.

”Let’s sit in the pavilion.” Perhaps because of some privacy, No.5 didn’t invite her into the building but looked toward the pavilion in the center of the small lake in the courtyard.

”Alright.”

The two sat down in the pavilion.

Sitting in the pavilion, surrounded by a pool filled with lotus leaves, with several blooming lotus flowers.

It would be more comfortable with a few breezes, but unfortunately, there was no wind here.

”Are those glowing stones above replacing sunlight, allowing these plants to grow as they do?” Shi Wanyun pointed at the blooming lotus flowers on the water.

”Partly.”

No.5 took out a tea set from somewhere, brewed a pot of tea, and poured two cups.

”Plants can indeed rely on the light from energy stones to grow, but inside this world tree, they actually rely on the energy of the world tree, which is sufficient for their growth. Energy stones merely accelerate their growth. Their primary role is lighting.”

These crystals are called energy stones, so they’re just used for lighting?

She looked up at the densely packed Crystal Stones above, with almost no gaps.

Each one emitted a bright yet gentle shimmering white light.

...She always felt this woman was doing something incredibly extravagant.

”Do you really want to know what these are?”
