Chapter 1009: Chapter 565: I Really Don’t Want to Die

A momentary sense of helplessness almost made her lose her balance and collapse to the ground.

She was currently near her treehouse, only thirty or forty meters away from it.

What made her uncomfortable was that this moment was at the peak of summer’s scorching heat, with the blazing sun directly hitting her, causing the exposed skin on her body to feel a sting.

Moreover, the temperature was extremely hot, probably around fifty degrees, which was unbearable for the average person.

Thankfully, she was no longer just an average person; neither the sun nor the heat could cause her any real harm, only discomfort.

In her hand, the Crystal Ball used for transmitting messages shone even brighter under the sunlight.

Her body grew increasingly weak.

”This Crystal Ball...”

Shi Wanyun immediately realized that her weakness was not caused by the heat and sunlight, but rather...

The Crystal Ball in her hand was absorbing her strength?

Suddenly, the Crystal Ball in her hand emitted a heat that could cause burns.

She made a quick decision and immediately threw the Crystal Ball away.

Even though that Crystal Ball contained extremely important information, she still tossed it aside.

She felt that if she continued holding the Crystal Ball, she might faint from weakness under the scorching heat and exposure.

That would be too dangerous!

Although she hadn’t suffered any harm yet, fainting in such an environment was uncertain; prolonged exposure and high temperatures could be deadly!

Not to mention the fierce beasts that might be lurking outside the treehouse, which were the greatest threat.

The Crystal Ball rolled on the ground a couple of times, stopping about seven or eight meters away from her, gleaming under the sunlight.

Shi Wanyun’s legs staggered, and she finally couldn’t support her body anymore, collapsing to the ground.

She smiled bitterly.

Lately, she felt like she had encountered many situations where she was helpless.

Indeed, even though she was among the strongest survivors in Zone 1, she was still too weak in the face of the world’s crises.

...And what about Xu Xin?

Her savior and target for assassination, just how strong was Xu Xin?

She sighed lightly, just as she was about to support herself to stand up, when a sense of danger rose again in her heart.

She immediately turned and cautiously observed her surroundings.

Her pupils instantly contracted.

...Whatever she feared seemed to come true?

She saw massive bodies of mutant creatures emerging from behind the trees.

Each one of them was large, their bodies covered with crimson blood patterns, all staring at her, most revealing sharp fangs.

She even saw drool dripping from the slightly open maws of the mutant creatures.

Like a group of starving beasts eyeing an immensely delicious feast!

Shi Wanyun could feel the intense hostility emanating from these mutant creatures.

It seemed they would leap upon her and tear her apart at any moment.

Why was her treehouse surrounded?

...The Crystal Ball?

Now wasn’t the time to think about this!

She tried to prop herself up, wanting to get up and run to her treehouse.

However, her legs wouldn’t obey her commands at all.

Just as she stood up, she collapsed again due to her legs giving way.

...Why?

Why did the Crystal Ball drain her strength? Why did it attract a group of mutant creatures?

Was she really... going to die?

She wanted to get up again, but... it was already too late.

The Crystal Ball about seven or eight meters away from her had threads of blood-red light mixing with its white glow.

Then, the mutant creatures surrounding her treehouse suddenly went into a frenzy!

In her horrified gaze, countless mutant creatures emerged from the surrounding jungle, charging towards her!

She couldn’t even stand. She couldn’t escape!

Even though her treehouse was only a few dozen meters away!

”Click!”

The heavy crossbow on her treehouse activated!

The mutant creature group had entered the crossbow’s targeting range of her treehouse!

”Howl...!”

A hyena covered in blood patterns was pierced directly by the crossbow, pinned to the ground, howling in pain.

At the same time, several other mutant creatures were hit by the crossbow, accompanied by several cries of agony.

The beast pack’s advance paused briefly due to these pitiful howls.

”There’s still a chance!”

In an instant, Wanyun’s almost desperate heart surged with a glimmer of hope.

She looked at the Crystal Ball about seven or eight meters away from her, regretting throwing it so far.

If she retrieved the Crystal Ball, would the surrounding mutant creatures no longer be in a frenzy?

She wanted to get up and grab the Crystal Ball, but in her weakened state, her legs couldn’t support her body.

Gritting her teeth, she disregarded everything, crawling towards the Crystal Ball.

Because she followed the principle of acting alone, her treehouse was equipped with many heavy crossbows for its defense, each one fully loaded with five bolts.

With such a number of crossbows firing simultaneously, the surrounding mutant creature group was temporarily suppressed.

And Shi Wanyun continued to stumble forward, using her hands and feet.

Her entire body was weak, and the uneven ground made her hands and knees painfully sore.
