Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1016: Chapter 567: The Infiltrated City (Part 3)

Xu Ying revealed her recent discovery to Wei Shishi, along with her speculations.

”Are you suggesting that extraterrestrial invaders have already discovered us here?” Wei Shishi’s voice was filled with shock. ”That’s impossible! This area is under the Wei Family’s surveillance. How could they possibly...”

Li Wenxi was also slightly surprised: ”So the pollution was because of...”

”Forget about your surveillance. Just being a bit careful and you wouldn’t notice me. It’s way too easy for them to evade your monitoring.” Xu Ying scoffed, ”Besides...”

She had a bad conjecture in her mind.

”Besides what?” Wei Shishi pressed for more information.

Although Xu Ying’s disdain for their technology irked her, the fate of humanity was at stake, and she dared not lose her temper.

”Just my guess.” Xu Ying looked out the window at the city, ”You need to know, those dogs of the extraterrestrial invaders are humans, they are either humans who survived from a thousand years ago, or new humans born within this millennium.”

”...Do you mean...!”

”Yes, perhaps, there are already dogs living in your city, posing as ordinary humans!”

Her words made the hearts of all three of them, including herself, leap.

This conjecture... it’s somewhat bone-chilling.

And yet, it’s very likely!

Xu Ying spoke again: ”What I can confirm is that fifty years ago, this area was not polluted. So, the land pollution occurred in the last fifty years.”

”If the pollution was really due to a transmission device, then by area calculation, the device must have been used at least a hundred times, or even possibly hundreds to thousands of times.”

”Why place a transmission device here and transmit so many times?”

”If it’s to infiltrate this city, then it’s very possible.”

”Those dogs transmit time and again, just to blend into life here.”

The three of them remained silent for a long time, considering the possibility of this scenario.

”I have a question.” Li Wenxi asked, ”Those dogs possess the blood-pattern mutation gene, right? If they have blood patterns on their faces and bodies, wouldn’t it be hard to blend in here?”

”The first generation indeed possesses blood patterns. But blood-pattern mutations are not hereditary.” Xu Ying explained, ”Maybe they use individuals from later generations who haven’t undergone mutations?”

”Unreasonable.” This time, Wei Shishi spoke, ”An increase of several hundred to a thousand people in the population couldn’t escape our notice.”

”What if these hundreds to thousands entered in stages over fifty years?” Xu Ying countered, ”A few people a year — could you detect that?”

”Yes. At least the nearby cities could. Here, in the core area, we don’t allow undocumented people to exist unless they remain hidden underground like rats, in which case they can’t do anything publicly, not even walking without attracting police attention. Like you before.”

”I see... Seems like your technology has improved a lot over the past fifty years.” Xu Ying mused, ”That certainly makes it somewhat meaningless. But... what if they didn’t join, but replaced?”

”Replaced?” Wei Shishi’s voice faltered.

”Kill the original person and pose as them, living here in their place.” Xu Ying said gravely.

”Wouldn’t that be more difficult than the previous method?” Li Wenxi queried.

”Don’t underestimate alien technology.” Xu Ying shook her head, ”Changing one’s face is too easy. Even humans a thousand years ago could achieve that. As for fingerprints and genes, unless someone commits a crime, who would check fingerprints or leave records anyway. So...”

She asked Wei Shishi: ”Have you heard of people suddenly undergoing drastic personality changes, memory loss, or even amnesia? If there are hundreds to thousands of cases, you might find some clues, maybe an unusual mysterious illness.”

”There is.” Wei Shishi’s voice trembled slightly.

”Then forget it, if there’s nothing... huh? There is?” Xu Ying’s eyes widened, ”Really?”

”Really.”

”Who are they, a lot of people? Anyone you know?”

”My grandfather.”

”Your grand... huh?!”
