Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1020: Chapter 569: The Potential Dangers of Space-Time Teleportation

”Ah ah... it’s such a mess...” Xu Ying rubbed her hair irritably. ”So many things have happened in these fifty years. I just jumped forward fifty years, but it feels like everything has changed...”

Fifty years ago, there were no survivors yet; fifty years ago, the human base in the underground world wasn’t this passive; fifty years ago, it was her brother, Xu Xin, who handled most of the affairs.

”What if... I jump back again...” Xu Ying suddenly had a bold idea, but she immediately dismissed it herself, shaking her head vigorously. ”No, no, no, it’s too risky.”

”What are you thinking? Jump back to where?” Li Wenxi was curious about Xu Ying’s sudden action. ”Did you think of a solution?”

”Ah...” Xu Ying gave an embarrassed smile. ”I thought of a solution, but the price might be the destruction of the world.”

Her words left Li Wenxi and Wei Shishi momentarily stunned.

”...Now is not the time for jokes.” Wei Shishi rolled her eyes slightly. ”I still have things to do over here. I’ll be leaving now. If there’s any news from Grandpa’s side, I’ll inform you.”

”Hey, are you just leaving like that?”

Wei Shishi didn’t offer much of an explanation, taking her people onto an armored vehicle and leaving together.

”What’s going on...” Xu Ying sat down heavily on a large rock beside her, propping herself with her hands and looking up at the dome. ”What should we do now? We can’t go up there...”

”Can’t you teleport?” Li Wenxi sat down beside her, also looking up at the dome. ”Can’t you just teleport up there directly? We don’t have to mine; we just want to take a look after all.”

”Of course not.” Xu Ying sighed. ”Not to mention if there’s a place to land up there, just talking about my spatial ability, it’s not that easy to use. I need a very precise location. Simply put, it needs a reference point. Otherwise, not to mention the larger effects, just Earth’s rotation and revolution mean spatial positions are changing rapidly.”

”...What do you mean by a reference point?”

”It means my spatial ability can only take me to places I’ve been to and left my mark on.” Xu Ying looked toward the villa on the hill not far away. ”Like that villa. Spatial abilities aren’t just for casual use. Otherwise, one small mistake could lead to a chaotic position.”

Li Wenxi nodded somewhat bewilderedly. ”I think I understand. Then... if you made a mark here, and if you teleported to another place, couldn’t you just instantly teleport back?”

”It’s not that easy.”

Xu Ying suddenly looked at Li Wenxi with a complicated expression, her eyes flashed with a hint of sadness, then she shook her head and said:

”If you were to teleport directly into space, there’s almost no chance of survival. The air pressure would drop to zero in an instant, internal organs would explode, and the temperature would plummet by a hundred or two hundred degrees... In such an instance without any protective measures, one might immediately lose consciousness and then become space debris floating in the universe.”

”Ah... that’s so terrifying...” Li Wenxi imagined that scenario, swallowing hard.

Xu Ying glanced at Li Wenxi, her eyes drooping.

In that timeline, the real Li Wenxi, her sister-in-law, perhaps... died like that.

”What’s wrong?” Li Wenxi noticed Xu Ying’s somber mood and asked softly.

”Ah, it’s nothing, nothing.” Xu Ying’s dejection lasted only a moment. She immediately looked up and laughed. ”That was just an extreme example. After all, it’s only space travel, not time travel. As long as you move quickly and have the ground as a reference, it’s not like you’ll be sent directly into outer space.”

”Oh, I see.” Li Wenxi pondered. ”What you mentioned, that seems more important in time travel, right?”

”That’s right.” Xu Ying nodded. ”Time travel requires more attention to the landing point. With such a significant time span, the original position would have completely changed. Without determining the space-time coordinates, you would disappear into the chaotic space and time, becoming space debris.”

As she spoke, her tone became somewhat somber again.

Her sister-in-law... was lost because of this...

”Then... why can’t you teleport up there? Isn’t it just a spatial shift?” Li Wenxi pointed upwards.

”Because, apart from being teleported into space, there are other failure risks!” Xu Ying sat on the large rock, kicking the pebble beneath her feet. ”Extremely terrifying!”

Li Wenxi’s curiosity was piqued. ”How terrifying?”

”Teleportation always requires some time. Without exact coordinates, my position wouldn’t be too accurate, and a deviation is very likely.” Xu Ying pointed upward. ”There’s a three-thousand-meter distance above me, and my non-coordinate teleportation error is around one in a thousand, meaning there might be a three-meter error unless there’s a major mistake.”

”A three-meter error...” Li Wenxi’s eyes widened slightly. ”I get it...”

”Right? Imagine, if it’s three meters downward, I’d fall directly and die. Splat!” Xu Ying made a motion of her hands exploding on the ground. ”I can’t teleport continuously; I’d simply fall to my death!”

”Wow... that is really dangerous...”

”And if it’s three meters upward? Sister-in-law, think, what’s three meters upward?”
