Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1012: Chapter 566: I’m Sorry

Perhaps because the monster before her was not truly present, but rather a projection, Shi Wanyun did not feel fear at its appearance, though its form still left her somewhat uneasy.

However, the monster’s words made her instantly understand many things.

Everything she had just experienced... was all part of this monster’s plan.

This included the Crystal Ball consuming her strength, leaving her unable to move, attracting mutant creatures to surround her and launch an utterly despairing attack.

All of this was to make her personally experience her situation, to make her realize that she was now like fish on a chopping board, without any capacity to resist, to incite fear, and to fully submit.

Undeniably...

It succeeded.

Now Shi Wanyun completely lost any thought of resisting this monster.

Despite the fact that this monster had made her undergo a death akin to being sliced to pieces.

Having just experienced such utterly hopeless pain, anyone facing an aggressor much more powerful than themselves would, at least for a long time, lose the will to resist.

”Remember, as long as I wish, I can make you and all the survivors in this world die in pain like you just did, at any time,” the monster spoke again.

But this time, it used its own strange language, making it sound much more fluent than before.

Shi Wanyun stood there, feeling a chill throughout her body: ”You...”

...

”Can you understand what it says?” Xu Xin suddenly asked, ”You couldn’t understand it before, right?”

He didn’t open his eyes, observing the scenes in his memory while asking.

”During the meeting, I indeed couldn’t understand its strange language, but I could through the Crystal Ball.”

Shi Wanyun’s emotions were relatively calm at this moment, and her voice returned to the softness it had before, probably because she knew there would be no more terrifying or painful events after this: ”The Crystal Ball probably has a translation function, naturally allowing me to understand.”

”It has such a function? Could it be after you took that capsule, you could understand their language?”

”No.” Shi Wanyun spoke softly, ”Just now, recalling the meeting with that monster, I still couldn’t understand its words.”

”I see.”

...

The monster had not spoken for a long time.

It seemed to be holding something in its awkwardly strange hands... sipping tea?

However, the projection only showed the monster’s figure, with nothing else visible, making the action seem truly bizarre.

Shi Wanyun waited a long time without seeing it speak, hesitated for a moment, and began: ”Excuse me, how am I to complete my task?”

Her task was to kill Xu Xin.

But now she was miles away from Xu Xin, unable even to reach him, let alone complete the task.

Yet even her asking the question, the monster still did not react, continuing the demeanor of sipping tea.

A monster sipping tea.

The sense of discord reached a peak.

... Ignoring her?

No.

”Um, excuse me...” Shi Wanyun repeated her earlier question.

Still no response.

She pursed her lips, looking at the monster.

So this is how it was.

She then understood, this projection was not real-time communication, but a pre-recorded image.

Indeed, No. 5 had told her, the Crystal Ball was for storing information, not for communication.

... No wonder she felt no such pressure and fear from the monster.

She should have thought of this sooner.

Shi Wanyun exhaled a long breath.

Since this was the case, she need not be so tense.

Was the monster trying to use this form to pressure her?

If it were an ordinary person, after experiencing such despairing death, at this point, they would be afraid and unable to move.

But Shi Wanyun, being one of the elites among this batch of survivors, though no longer harboring resistance, was not going to be intimidated by a projection.

Her expression relaxed, and she walked to the couch to sit down.

The monster projection from the Crystal Ball was quite smart, pivoting as she moved, always facing her.

But she no longer felt fear, raising her wrist, sliding her watch and keeping track of the current situation while waiting for the projection’s reaction.

At this moment, the situation of the survivors also surprised her.

”Scorching heat... Sunlight can burn the skin, blind the eyes?”

She murmured softly, ”This event causes great harm to the body... But, I didn’t feel particularly hot, nor did I get sunburned...”

Other than a slightly blurry vision when directly staring at the sun, she didn’t feel too uncomfortable otherwise.

”My body has been enhanced by that capsule... No, it’s undergone genetic mutation?” Realizing this, Shi Wanyun’s mood became complicated.

That capsule...

She still didn’t know, aside from making her skin unbelievably smooth, what else the capsule did for her.

But she always felt that it wasn’t a good thing.

Fortunately, besides her skin becoming smoother, her body hadn’t undergone anything too terrifying.

Like neck elongation, or hair turning into worms.

None of these happened.

Nor did blood patterns appear on her body.

This is considered lucky amidst misfortune.
