Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1007: Chapter 564: A Unique Laboratory

”Are these... those monsters?” Shi Wanyun instinctively took a step back.

The shadow left by these monsters on her was very large; seeing an entire wall of them now, being able to hold back from screaming was already doing well.

”Follow me.” Number 5 didn’t offer an explanation and continued walking forward.

Shi Wanyun took a deep breath and kept pace with Number 5.

Number 5’s pace wasn’t slow, and Shi Wanyun felt that her steps were much lighter than before.

As if...

Afraid of waking the monsters inside those capsules.

This made her steps become cautious too.

Along the entire wall, densely packed, were those completely black monsters.

Thankfully, although many eyes could be seen on these monsters, all of them were closed.

This scene’s impact felt significantly reduced.

But for Shi Wanyun, who had endured huge pressure before one of those monsters not long ago, this scene still had an immensely powerful impact.

As the distance grew closer, she felt her legs a bit weak.

...Cannot be afraid!

Since Number 5 brought her here, it meant there was no danger.

Now is actually a good opportunity to observe these monsters.

She forced herself to endure the discomfort, raised her head, and looked at these monsters in capsules, like experimental subjects.

Previously not daring to look directly at that monster, she observed these monsters carefully for the first time.

So this is how they look.

Head, limbs, and fur...

They looked somewhat similar to humans but carried subtle differences at every part.

Of course, the full-body closed eyes on each monster still caused extreme discomfort.

Now she feared one of those dense eyes would suddenly open.

She wanted to ask Number 5 what was going on, but Number 5 kept walking ahead without turning or speaking, and she was also scared her voice would disturb the monsters, so she lowered her head and closely followed Number 5.

In this strangely eerie atmosphere, the two of them arrived before the wall of capsule monsters.

Suddenly, a faint sound emanated within the wall, and a crack visible to the naked eye began to appear in the middle of the front wall.

Then, the front wall started slowly opening to the left and right like a giant door.

The capsules on the front wall also slowly moved along with the wall’s motion.

This made Shi Wanyun’s heart leap.

Luckily, the wall didn’t move widely, just opened a half-meter gap and stopped.

”Follow me.”

Number 5 turned her head and said softly, then walked into the gap.

Shi Wanyun took one last look at a capsule close by and immediately squeezed into the gap.

Behind the wall was a much more normal room.

Though it also had some very sophisticated machinery and a control panel full of buttons, it was much more normal than the monster wall.

Before she could catch her breath, she heard a faint sound behind her again.

When she turned, the half-meter gap behind her just closed, leaving a smooth seamless metal wall.

”Were you scared just now?” Number 5 laughed.

”You deliberately didn’t tell me about the... peculiar creatures inside to scare me, didn’t you?” Shi Wanyun turned to look at Number 5, feeling somewhat weary.

”That’s part of the reason.” Number 5 seemed pleased with Shi Wanyun’s reaction, laughing, ”Of course, the most important point is that I can’t tell you what this place is yet.”

”You just said this is your residence.” Shi Wanyun looked at her.

”This garden is where I live, not this pavilion.” Number 5 corrected her, ”My living quarters are in the stone house on the other side, you saw it earlier, didn’t you?”

Shi Wanyun recalled seeing the small stone house by the stream and replied helplessly, ”I thought that house was... a warehouse or a restroom.”

The stone house was far less conspicuous than the pavilion that immediately caught her eye upon entering this area.

”Whose restroom is that big, public restroom?” Number 5 retorted with mild annoyance, ”I’m the only one living in this area.”

So she lives here alone...

Previously, Number 5 didn’t let her get close to this central pavilion, so she thought it was because there were people she had brought in that she didn’t want Shi Wanyun to see, hence not allowing her to approach.

But it turned out this wasn’t even her residence, instead was a...

Experiment site?

”Actually, this was indeed my residence originally.” Number 5 walked to a control panel and sat on a metal chair, ”But living alone in such a large place felt too empty, so I built a stone house by the stream and moved out.”

Considering the size of the room full of monsters she had just passed, Shi Wanyun nodded in agreement.

Indeed, living alone in such a huge place would feel too empty.

At night, it’d probably feel like a haunted house, and if it wasn’t cleaned for a long time, dust everywhere, even more like a haunted house.

However...

Shi Wanyun thought of those pebble-like Crystal Stones.

There’s probably no night here.
