Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Li Younan nodded.

The man then laughed and said, ”We didn’t run into any trouble, we’re just waiting for the right time.”

”Waiting for the right time? Waiting for what?”

”Brother, you might not know, but Suosong Village charges an entrance fee of 150 yuan per person and an additional 100 yuan per vehicle. There’s a checkpoint set about a kilometer ahead, but they remove it after 11 PM. We drive in under the cover of darkness and save a few hundred yuan.”

For a moment, Li Younan was a bit speechless. The man encouraged him to wait a bit longer, saying it was already 10:30 PM, and in about half an hour, the checkpoint would probably be removed.

For Li Younan, money wasn’t the issue; the main thrill was this ”fee-evading” experience.

Strictly speaking, this isn’t really fee-evading. Besides the subjective waiting until after 11 PM, some cars do genuinely arrive late, past 11 or 12 PM, and drive in unknowingly without being charged.

Li Younan thought for a moment and returned to the car.

Liu Li immediately asked, ”What’s going on up ahead?”

Li Younan replied mysteriously, ”Wait here for another ten to twenty minutes, and you can pick up some money.”

”Huh?”

About twenty minutes later, the cars ahead started up, and Li Younan followed them slowly.

Sure enough, after driving less than a kilometer ahead, there was a checkpoint, but it was unattended, and the barrier was raised.

After passing through the checkpoint smoothly, Li Younan accelerated, overtaking the three cars in front.

To his surprise, those three cars continued to follow him.

Li Younan didn’t drive directly into the village; instead, he found a suitable camping spot some distance away and parked the car to spend the night there.

Surprisingly, as soon as he stopped the car, the three cars following him also parked on the same open space.

Although those three vehicles were not RVs, they had beds fitted inside, allowing them to rest and sleep.

All three cars were occupied by couples traveling together, with two children.

Their cars parked not far from Li Younan’s, and the man who had spoken to him earlier came over to greet him.

Then the three families set up a shared tent next to their cars to cook meals inside.

Although it was well past dinner time, they had probably been traveling for a long time, so they began bustling around energetically.

During this, they invited Li Younan and Liu Li to join them for dinner, but were politely declined.

Li Younan and Liu Li had already eaten dinner and were feeling a bit tired, so they decided to rest early.

...

Recently, thanks to the careful care from Li Younan and Liu Li, Tuantuan the owl’s health improved significantly; not only had the splints on its wings been removed, but it also no longer had the disheveled feathers and panicked look it had when initially found by Li Younan.

Nowadays, Tuantuan’s feathers were fluffy and thick, sleek and smooth, its irises matured, and it had astonishing strength in its claws. Its entire body filled out, with its round head even growing larger than a typical cat’s.

Standing inside the RV, it had become something impossible to ignore.

After all, during this period, Tuantuan’s dietary standards were quite high; it had been eating fresh meat and eggs without interruption, living a very different lifestyle compared to its kind in the wild who experience hunger inconsistently.

However, Tuantuan’s wings hadn’t completely healed, so it was accustomed to moving in a rather comical shuffle.

Those who often handle owls know that owls rest during the day and become very alert at night, transforming from being nearly blind to having exceptional night vision.

To expend Tuantuan’s unspent energy, Li Younan would place it on the car’s sunroof, allowing it to view the outside scenery at night, whimsically dubbing it the ”Guardian of the Night.”

Liu Li asked, ”Won’t it feel lonely up there by itself?”

Li Younan confidently assured, ”No, it’s quite happy up there. You can see how its gaze sharpens the moment it’s on the sunroof, like a real bird of prey.”

Tuantuan puffed out its chest.

Notably, there is a surveillance camera on the roof, allowing them to view Tuantuan’s activities on the TV inside the vehicle in real-time.

Li Younan crafted a two-story wooden nest for it; the upper level for resting with a roof and insulation, more comfortable than any natural owl’s nest.

The lower level of the nest was open and lined with a garbage bag, meant for its restroom needs. During the day, a cage was set outside the vehicle, and after eating and relieving itself, Tuantuan was allowed to roam freely, ensuring the vehicle remained odor-free.

Today followed the same arrangement. Li Younan opened the sunroof and placed Tuantuan’s nest on top.

The adorable owl, upon reaching the sunroof, transformed into the keeper of the dark night.

Quite cool.

Currently, the two still sleep innocently in the same bed, Liu Li always feeling shy but joyful. Her nightly slumber is something she eagerly anticipates, as she can be close to her beloved, breathing in his scent.

According to Li Younan, Liu Li’s expressions of love are grand.

She doesn’t say ”I like you”; she begins with ”I love you.”
