Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 421: Chapter 332: Playing a Person (Part 2)

Shen Yao suddenly felt that Zhou Yun might really stand a chance to win a Best Supporting Actress award with the role of Dong Zhimei.

That performance just now was definitely worth a nomination.

...

It took Zhou Yun a while to extract herself from the state of mind she was in just now.

”Sister Xiao Yun, would you like some water?” Zheng Xiaojue came over with a thermos and asked.

Zhou Yun shook her head and said, ”Do you have coffee?”

Zheng Xiaojue replied, ”There’s some black coffee from this morning.”

Zhou Yun nodded, ”I’ll have some of that.”

”Sure.” Zheng Xiaojue immediately went to get another thermos.

The bitter taste spread in her mouth, snapping her back to reality.

Alright, time to return to my normal self. Zhou Yun quietly told herself.

”That was incredible just now,” Shen Yao came over and said to her, ”You’re really something else, you acted so well. There were moments when I almost couldn’t remember what you’re usually like.”

Zhou Yun smiled and replied, ”Thank you, Brother Shen.”

Shen Yao was indeed wonderful; he patiently worked with her over and over again. Not everyone might have the patience or the willingness to do so. Shen Yao did it because he was willing to give up the limelight and let Zhou Yun shine.

That evening, Zhou Lan brought Zhou Yun some news.

Life is going to be set for release; it’s planned for November.

In addition, Heart Inquiry is also getting a release date; if all goes as expected, it should be broadcast at the end of December.

Both works are scheduled at the same time.

Zhou Lan said: ”When it comes to November, you’ll have to do a roadshow; I need to give you a heads-up. You’ll be very busy in November, basically with no free time.”

”Okay,” Zhou Yun nodded.

Zhou Lan continued, ”Additionally, Yao Yuanfeng said he would help you push for the year-end award season, trying to win a few Best Actress awards for you.”

”For Life?” Zhou Yun asked, ”I don’t know if I can win any awards.”

Zhou Lan said, ”This year, it’s a quiet year for Best Actress in films. If you’re lucky, with not many competitors, you should be able to win several awards. That would be great; more awards mean a thicker resume for you, and many directors are already inquiring about your schedule. Once Life is officially released, even more directors will notice you.”

Zhou Yun replied, ”My schedule is nearly full, and I hardly have time to take on new films.”

”That’s alright, as long as the project is right and it’s not starting immediately, everything is negotiable,” Zhou Lan stated. ”Choosing to do Life was the right move. The award you received at the Venice International Film Festival has helped you immensely, instantly setting you apart from other popular female celebrities. The media industry claims you are the most talented actress among the popular ones, and the most popular among the talented. With such an image established, you’ll become the top choice for the female lead in various major and minor films.”

Zhou Yun smiled and said, ”That’s why everyone wants an award.”

Zhou Lan asked, ”How is the shooting of Warm Little Horse going? Is everything smooth?”

”Smooth. I spent half a day grinding through a scene today; Brother Shen was with me the whole time,” Zhou Yun said. ”At first, I thought he might not agree.”

”For a big star like him, they will agree as long as it’s for the good of the film. Otherwise, what do you think they relied on to get to where they are today?” said Zhou Lan. ”Oh, another thing, I have to let you know, Meng Ran’s agency contacted me, thinking we might want to help her out, sort of asking you to speak favorably of her in public, praising her professionalism and such. I turned them down. We won’t disclose the news that she’s not on set, but we won’t cover for her either.”

Zhou Yun was surprised and said, ”Her agency contacted us directly? How could they be so brazen?”

Zhou Lan: ”What’s the big deal? Making the attempt is entirely their agency’s idea; it wasn’t her personally approaching us.”

Zhou Yun pouted and said, ”She hasn’t returned to the set for so long yet still wants others to lie for her.”

Zhou Lan: ”After all, there are a lot of people online criticizing her for being unprofessional. Look at Warm Little Horse. Haven’t they remained silent and not claimed that she has been working hard on set? If everything was normal, the production crew would have already stepped forward to clarify by now. Their silence at this point actually speaks volumes.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”Didn’t you say before that this was tacitly permitted by Shen Yao and his team?”

”I never said that,” Zhou Lan countered. ”What I did say was that the other film Meng Ran went off to shoot is produced by the same company as Warm Little Horse. If it had been with their consent, the Warm Little Horse officials would have defended Meng Ran by now. What I meant was, due to the relationship with the same production company, Shen Yao and Wan Zhiliang might feel reluctant to take any strong measures against Meng Ran. All I knew was the producer must have been aware. How could Shen Yao and his team be happy with Meng Ran double-dipping.”

”Okay, so I guess I misunderstood.”

Zhou Lan: ”Of course, Shen Yao and Wan Zhiliang might well have known too; it’s hard to say for sure. But in any case, this has nothing to do with us. As for Meng Ran’s company wanting you to speak for her, not a chance. The fact that she left the set is true. If this gets exposed later, wouldn’t it become our problem for lying and covering for her? I have no idea why they would think we would agree.”
