Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

”Hahaha, what’s there to hide? The facts are right in front of us, plain as day. There’s nothing that can’t be said.” Old Master Qin could see things in perspective; at their age, every day lived was one day less, and their time was a countdown.

Qin Xiu pursed his lips tight, ”You and grandma are fine, just wait until my sister gets married and has a baby. You and grandma will get to help raise your great-grandchild.”

”Hahaha, your sister is married into another family. If she really has a great-grandchild, it would be up to her in-laws to look after, not brought to our Qin family.”

Raising a great-grandchild was indeed something Old Master Qin had thought about, but it wasn’t just a simple wish.

It wasn’t like the Xia and Fu families, living so close to each other.

”Today, your sister brought that young military officer to visit, and even stole the family register for his sake. It’s clear that barring any accidents, they will smoothly tie the knot. The officer’s family is in a small county town. If the in-laws want to take care of the great-grandchild, your sister wouldn’t stop them, would she?”

”Even though he said that he became a soldier on his own and isn’t on great terms with his family, once the child is born, what grandparents would not care for their grandchild? Even if that officer doesn’t care about his family, the grandparents would still come looking on their own.”

Old Master Qin dared not even dream of having to care for his granddaughter’s great-grandchild; what he envisioned was caring for the great-grandchildren born to Qin Xiu.

After some thought, Old Master Qin sighed with a smile, ”Xiu, there are some things we can’t force. Trying too hard is only making it hard on ourselves. Grandpa knows you best; you’d rather inconvenience yourself than others. Living like that is very exhausting.”

”You already have enough pressure at work. If even in your personal life, you never find ease and can’t find someone close to your heart with whom you can laugh and talk freely, your days will become harder and harder, and you might even find your whole life bleak.”

”Even if you pour all your passion into your work to fill the void in your life, you’ll still be exhausted. Over time, you might even lose interest in your work.”

”Do you think what grandpa is saying makes sense? Isn’t it just like that?”

The distance from the Fu family to the Qin family was not far, just three or four hundred meters. Old Master Qin wanted to have a chat with his grandson, and taking advantage of the fact that the snow had stopped, he slowed his pace and chatted as they walked.

Qin Xiu’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing his grandfather’s words, ”I’m not forcing anything, don’t worry.”

”Do you still need to hide things in front of your grandpa? I can tell that there’s someone in your heart just by looking at you. You don’t say, and grandpa won’t ask.”

Aside from Old Master Fu, only Old Madam knew about Qin Xiu’s feelings for Ye Jian. But Old Madam did not tell Old Master, she wanted to keep this secret for her grandson out of fear that the old man, in the midst of plotting his chess game, would reveal all to Old Master Fu.

Ye Jian had a boyfriend, and knowing this, Qin Xiu still harbored feelings for her; Old Madam felt that the fewer people knew about it, the better, and so she even kept Old Master Qin in the dark.

When Qin Xiu heard this, he knew that Old Master wasn’t aware of the situation and he couldn’t help but feel relieved, yet there was also an inexplicable sense of loss. If he knew... could another scenario have unfolded?

As this thought emerged, Qin Xiu immediately stopped himself, reminding himself not to entertain such crooked thoughts.

Even if Grandpa knew, in the love story of Ye Jian and Xia Jinyuan, there was no room for him to step in.

Slowing down, he walked home alongside his talking grandfather, under the yellowed streetlights that cast a dreamlike thin golden sheen on the pristine snow, occasionally twinkling like brilliant diamonds.
