Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

The guard recognized Qin Xiu, and as usual, invited him inside. Just as Qin Xiu was about to enter, he suddenly heard a young man’s crisp voice coming from inside. The corners of his mouth slowly curled up, and then just as slowly, the smile was suppressed. In the end, his face was left with only the polite coolness he reserved for his work.

He came in too much of a hurry and had forgotten... about Xia Jinyuan’s presence.

No, in fact, he hadn’t forgotten, he just deliberately wanted to forget, it was merely self-deception.

With Ye Jian’s boyfriend there, him showing up would only make Ye Jian uncomfortable, it would also trouble Grandpa Fu, and might even ruin the otherwise peaceful atmosphere and lead to awkwardness because of his arrival.

As Qin Xiu thought this to himself, he began to slowly retreat. The guard inviting him in asked, upon seeing this, ”What happened?”

Qin Xiu replied in his usual gentle manner, ”I just remembered something I need to take care of at home, I will come back later to visit Grandpa Fu.”

”Okay, I will let Old Man Xia know later,” the guard replied without suspicion, and courteously saw Qin Xiu out.

The snow that had stopped this morning had started to fall again, with the white snowflakes fluttering down, carried by the cold wind and quickly covering his clothes.

In the snowy capital city, the temperature was extremely low. Wearing only a shirt and a wool vest, Qin Xiu suddenly felt the cold, a chill that seeped into his bones and along his muscles into his veins, until even his heart felt icy cold.

Qin Xiu seemed very cold, so cold that his swinging arms during his walk were stiff, and though his arms were stiff, his fingers did not stop trembling, eventually even his steps became somewhat unsteady.

He placed his hands in his trouser pockets to hide their trembling, then straightened his back, walking through adversity like a blind man who, despite the darkness ahead, kept going until he found light, until he reached the sacred ground in his heart.

Up ahead, someone was holding an umbrella, standing there, and as they saw the approaching tall figure through the snow, a deep love filled their eyes.

With a sigh, Qin Ying, with one hand holding an umbrella and the other carrying a coat, walked over and handed over the coat, murmuring, ”Put it on, don’t catch a cold.”

Qin Xiu, with a face a little pale, took the coat and his handsome face showed a very faint, very shallow smile, as if to tell Qin Ying not to worry about him, he was fine.

The smile was a bit forced, and the hands that were trying to fasten the buttons of the coat were so stiff that he struggled to correctly button it even after several attempts.

”There, stop trying to look strong in front of your sister. Anyone can see that you have something on your mind just by looking at you; take the umbrella.” As she spoke, Qin Ying handed the umbrella to Qin Xiu, skillfully fastened his coat buttons with her nimble fingers, and said, ”Fixating on someone you shouldn’t will only wear you out. That girl does seem truly wonderful, one can’t help but like her if not for her looks, then for her temperament.”

”But she is already taken, and her partner is an immovable mountain; you don’t stand a chance. I feel for you, but I won’t encourage you to chase after already claimed love. You can’t do it, and I can’t say it, so you’ll just have to heal your own heart.”

”You’ve always been obedient growing up, but in truth, you’re the one with the most conviction. You’re lazy when it comes to small matters, but on major issues, no one can sway your decisions.”

”You’ve been pining for this girl for four or five years now; I think that’s about enough. Always thinking about someone else’s girlfriend isn’t right, and even if you refrain from disturbing them and don’t express what’s in your heart, you still can’t face her with ease.”

”Qin Xiu, you need to let go, only by letting go can you be at ease, can you stand in front of her with a smile, without making her feel awkward, without making yourself suffer.”
