Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

”Look, after so many years of outwitting each other, it’s still Ying who won, bringing back a son-in-law that both of you old folks are satisfied with. This goes to show, Dingkang’s wife can be as stubborn as she wants, but she can’t overcome the will of her children.”

”Believe me, she can’t get the better of Xiu either. Xiu is even more difficult to deal with than Ying. If he can debate with the ministers on the diplomatic stage, there’s no way he can’t win against his mother, right?”

Old Man Xia’s words were all sensible, and Old Master Qin found them quite reasonable as well, but his heart was still somewhat troubled, ”The two siblings have different temperaments. Ying is outgoing and flamboyant. When she sets her mind to something, she’ll just run away from home and that’s how she got Dingkang’s wife wrapped around her finger.”

”Xiu is different. Even though he is sharp on the inside, he wouldn’t resort to the extreme measures like Ying, and he is extremely filial. I’m really worried that in order to not make his mother sad, he will sacrifice his own happiness to comply with her wishes. By then, his whole life would be ruined, not to mention family happiness.”

”Hahaha, you, you really are getting senile,” Old Man Xia suddenly burst into laughter. Under the puzzled gaze of Old Master Qin, Old Man Xia took a sip of hot tea before slowly explaining, ”Dingkang’s wife has always wanted to introduce Staff Officer Du’s daughter to Xiu. To force Xiu to agree, she even brought Miss Du to Dan Gui Garden. But what happened? In the end, did Xiu agree?”

”You, you worry too much. Even when Dingkang’s wife pushed that hard, Xiu didn’t give in. Do you think he’ll bow down in the future? You still don’t understand how firm Xiu is on the inside, do you?”

That was indeed the case!

Hitting the nail on the head, Old Master Qin suddenly saw the light and burst into hearty laughter, ”It seems I was indeed foolishly worrying. You see things more clearly than I do.”

Old Man Xia said, ”Hahaha, hahaha, you say Xiu has already done so much, do you think he’ll listen to his mother? Rest assured, in the future Xiu will definitely marry a good girl.”

Old Master Qin laughed, ”Hahaha, come on, come on, let’s play chess. Xiu has his own ideas in mind, I’m just waiting for him to bring home the girl he likes.”

But it definitely wouldn’t be his family’s girl! Old Man Xia thought to himself as he continued to make his chess moves.

”Just wait and see, it’s only a matter of time. You’re not playing fair, trying to win while I’m not looking? You underestimate me!” Old Man Xia made his move as the two elders smiled brightly at each other.

What neither of the old men expected was that the girl Qin Xiu was thinking about was busy right under their noses, and Qin Xiu, who Old Master Qin was worried about, was on his way to the Li family.

Xia Jinyuan had just found out that Old Master Li had passed away. Rumors in the capital suggested that he died from anger caused by his second son, Li Ronghuan, and there were also whispers that Li Chuhai’s death somehow involved Madam Li. It was said that Old Master Li passed away due to extreme anger, and soon thereafter rumors spread that Madam Li moved back to take care of Old Madam Li, to prevent Li Ronghuan from taking over the Li family assets. All in all, the biggest scandals in the capital this year came from the Li family.

Having been abroad, Xia Jinyuan had no idea about these events. Commander Xia didn’t inform him, and Li Jinnian wanted to tell him but never got in touch. Messages were sent to his phone, but Xia Jinyuan had left it at the base and didn’t carry it with him, so he only found out today.

Xia Jinyuan wasn’t concerned about other matters, but the one thing that did concern him was… He frowned slightly, his breath visible in the cold air as he asked in a low voice, ”How did the rumors about Li Chuhai’s death being related to Madam Li come about?”

Catching his breath from the climb, Qin Xiu leaned on the climbing chain and took a moment to regulate his breathing before speaking, ”It’s the Li family taboo; they keep it tightly concealed from top to bottom. Old Master Li died in the hospital, and before his death, Madam Li had all the attending nurses leave the sickroom. Old Master Li, who was awake at that time, nodded his agreement, so the room was left with only Madam Li, Madam Li, Li Ronghuan. However, later I heard that before Old Master Li died, Madam Li suffered a great shock and fainted.”
