Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Bringing up past events, Mrs. Qin’s heart fiercely ”thudded” inside her chest.

Back then, Qin Ying disappeared abroad without a trace because of a blind date, which caused Mrs. Qin unimaginable worry and heartache. It was only after Qin Ying had returned home on her own initiative that they managed to put the matter to rest.

Now... Now if she were to push too hard, then... Thinking about it, Mrs. Qin shuddered violently, fearing that if she pressured her daughter too much, she might flee home for another five years. Then... then... she would nearly become an old maid of forty!

Not to mention getting married, even finding a boyfriend would be difficult!

Mrs. Qin clenched the handkerchief in her hand.

Old Man Xia said again, ”You say you’re doing this for Qin Ying’s good, but do you really know what Qin Ying truly desires in her heart? If you really want to make it up to Qin Ying, shouldn’t you compensate her according to what she thinks and likes? How could you instead be acting in direct opposition? You’re only causing her more trouble and irritation.”

”This is not the compensation you speak of from your mouth; it’s inflicting harm on Qin Ying once again. You’ve always claimed to have your children’s best interests at heart, yet you continue to hurt their feelings.”

”I...” Mrs. Qin wanted to defend herself, but Old Man Xia waved his hand, signaling her to listen, ”Don’t explain to me, I’ve told you I can understand your intentions. However, I really don’t understand your actions.”

”Once the children are grown, they have their own paths they wish to follow. You’ve been intervening too much, and that needs to change. It’s not too late; change your ways promptly.”

Mrs. Qin’s eyes reddened upon hearing this; she had wholeheartedly devoted herself to her children, but in the end... in the end... Lowering her head, Mrs. Qin wiped the corners of her eyes with her handkerchief continuously. After a while, she finally said, ”Old Man Xia, the military officer that Qin Ying likes... that officer... he... he...”

What follows ”he”? Mrs. Qin was too ashamed to say it herself.

Old Master Fu, however, said it, ”He rejected Qin Ying, saying he didn’t like her. And then, you got angry?” Taking the small teacup passed to him by Qin Xiu, Old Man Xia sipped the tea before continuing, ”If it were so, do you think Qin Ying would stealthily take the family registry book from home? Would she be so determined to marry him?”

”Qin Ying is very clever and has had a strong sense of judgment since she was young, with a piercing gaze to boot. If that officer truly didn’t like her and repeatedly refused her, given Qin Ying’s character, she would definitely let go cleanly, never to force the issue, and would immediately leave!”

That was true; her daughter was indeed decisively efficient and even more powerful in her actions than many men.

Mrs. Qin gradually stopped her tears, seemingly understanding what Old Man Xia was trying to convey.

”But now, Qin Ying insists on marrying no one but him and even sneaks the family registry book home. That officer not liking Qin Ying? Impossible! Qin Ying mentioned the nature of the officer’s job; it’s very dangerous, often going for a year or half without being seen, either missing or disappeared. The man directly stated that he didn’t want Qin Ying to worry and fret over him, nor did he wish for her to put her life on hold because of him.”

”Listen to that, such an honest officer; he clearly deeply cares for her, yet for Qin Ying’s sake, and fearing she might impulsively marry him, he laid out everything crystal clear, allowing Qin Ying to back away understanding the difficulties.”

”In my opinion, this officer is good, far better than sons of rich and noble families – honest, responsible, and very capable. I’ve inquired about his background too; his family background is quite decent, a household of educators.”

”They are just ordinary schoolteachers from a small county town.” Mrs. Qin ran out of arguments as Old Man Xia’s words left her speechless. She could only resort to playing the card of the officer’s family background, ”If it were in a big city, then I could somehow accept it.”
