Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Ye Jian: ”...” I almost forgot there’s still that technique!”

”Besides appearance, there’s also temperament and gaze. There’s always something off,” Ye Jian said, burying his head and choosing to think of the situation in the most optimistic way.

Xia Jinyuan didn’t take the matter seriously anymore. As she said, what is meant to happen will happen, so might as well face it calmly.

The two of them had been sitting upstairs for about an hour when a knocking sound came from outside, followed by Qin Xiu’s voice, ”Excuse me, I need you two to come out and help persuade the two elders.”

The knocking was very cautious, as if afraid to disturb the two inside.

The two got up, and Xia Jinyuan opened the door. Qin Xiu immediately noticed that the bed in the guest room had traces of only two people sitting close together. He glanced briefly and did not think about anything else, his expression slightly resigned as he said to Ye Jian, ”Hurry and persuade the two elders. They ended their chess game in a draw and decided to jog outside a bit to celebrate…”

Ye Jian couldn’t help but laugh and cry; Old Master Qin and Grandpa were both like mischievous old children.

Deciding to go out for a jog because the chess game ended in a draw was indeed something Ye Jian was hearing for the first time.

Qin Xiu was helpless to stop them and had to go upstairs to seek help from Ye Jian and Xia Jinyuan, hoping that they could persuade the old master and Old Man Xia to come back.

But even the intervention of the two was useless. The two naughty elders ran around the outside yard twice, bringing back a chill before they returned to the house.

The three hurried to attend to them. The two elders didn’t care at all. Old Master Qin reminisced about the days he and several late senior leaders spent together, full of nostalgia as he sighed to the busy Ye Jian, ”Back then, your grandpa and I accompanied the senior leader. In the dead of winter, we climbed Taishan and the Great Wall, and even went to the bordering town.”

”That year, your grandpa made quite a stir right during the dead of winter. I was at the State Guesthouse briefing foreign guests when the senior leader received the news. The next day, after seeing off the foreign guests, he immediately took a special plane to your grandpa’s workplace.”

”That place was all snow, and the temperature during the day was below minus twenty degrees. Your grandpa ran, jumped, and laughed in the snow with the data in his arms. The senior leader watched him for five minutes and even teared up.”

Speaking of the past, Old Man Xia seemed to feel as if everything had happened just yesterday. Grasping his cane in both hands, he recalled the memories seared into his soul, as described by Old Master Qin. A deep smile crossed his weathered face, ”Back then, I was young and not afraid of the cold. Even in such thick snow, I could run around.”

”The senior leader later told me, seeing my vigor, he knew my foundation was solid, and I could work in scientific research for another fifty years!”

”And he really hit the nail on the head, another fifty years just flew by in the blink of an eye. Thinking about it, it really seems like it all happened just yesterday.”

”I’m old, really old now,” Old Man Xia took the hot tea Ye Jian handed him and said with a smile to Old Master Qin, ”I’ve already accepted my age, are you still trying to prove something?”

Old Master Qin also drank the hot tea, waved his hand in response, ”There’s no denying I’m old. My heart’s still racing from that run. We can’t do this next time, wouldn’t want to frighten these young ones.”

And wasn’t that the case? Qin Xiu’s face was still dark, ”You and Grandpa Fu had a cold together recently. I know it must be the two of you braving the snow again that got you sick. Like this time, even if you’re happy, you need to know your limits.”

Ye Jian narrowed his eyes, ”Grandpa, you just said you’ve never even had a cold.”
