Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Xia Jinyuan repeatedly begged for mercy, and Ye Jian finally let go of her hand. She feared that he might continue to be frivolous, so she glared at him, ”Don’t follow me, go upstairs and rest.”

She still needed to continue helping Uncle Fu in the kitchen; first, she had to send this troublemaker upstairs to rest.

Xia Jinyuan actually had important matters to discuss with her. Rubbing the waist pinched by his girlfriend, he glanced sideways at the kitchen and said to Qin Xiu who had not yet come out, ”Ambassador Qin, please help in the kitchen first. Ye Jian and I will come and take over later.”

”No need, no need, I’m not busy here,” Uncle Fu hurriedly declined, ”You work hard every day, and when you come home, you should rest properly. I’ll handle the kitchen duties. If you’re bored, you can play cards or watch TV. Just don’t come into the kitchen and get in my way.”

Uncle Fu, who came from a cooking squad, had always taken care of Old Man Xia, and kitchen chores were never a problem for him; it was more convenient for him to move around the kitchen alone.

Ye Jian had been kicked out of the kitchen by Uncle Fu twice without success, only relenting to her persistence to let her help.

Qin Xiu was also shooed out by Uncle Fu, and he said calmly to Xia Jinyuan, ”Uncle Fu thinks I’m in the way, and you have your own matters...” Glancing at Xia Jinyuan, thinking about his sudden descent from halfway up the mountain, the astute diplomat guessed Xia Jinyuan must have urgent matters to discuss with Ye Jian, ”You go ahead. I’ll take care of the two elders.”

Xia Jinyuan didn’t stand on ceremony and took Ye Jian upstairs.

Standing in the living room, Qin Xiu’s gaze slightly intensified, contemplative for a while before he returned to the game room. Urgent matters? What urgent matters suddenly required finding Ye Jian?

Coming down the mountain, he hadn’t seen him seeking Ye Jian, but instead, he went to the upstairs guest rooms.

Something wasn’t right.

Stopping suddenly at the entrance of the tea room, Qin Xiu had mentioned the Li family, talked about the death of Li Chuhai, discussed Old Master Li’s possible death from rage in the hospital, and also mentioned the rumors in the capital about the Li family, immediately after which Xia Jinyuan had said that he would come down here.

Had Xia Jinyuan come down because he heard about the Li family?

Li family? Xia family?

The two families had no grudges or dealings; why did Xia Jinyuan seem so concerned?

He didn’t appear concerned — when he mentioned the Li family, Xia Jinyuan’s expression was calm, showing no unusual reaction. So why would he...

Wait...

Qin Xiu’s hand, holding the hot water bottle, suddenly turned cold, a shadow crossing his refined face. Li Chuhai... had been killed, though it was unclear where. It would not have been difficult for Old Master Li to protect Li Chuhai and enable him to flee the country.

Yet he had still not escaped and had been killed.

Could it be... Li Chuhai was killed by the military? Is that why Xia Jinyuan thought of coming down the mountain immediately?

If that was the case, it would explain why he suddenly said he needed to come down.

Qin Xiu took a deep breath to calm the storm inside his heart and pushed open the door of the tea room. The two elders were still enthusiastically ”battling” each other, occasionally complaining about the other’s slow moves, or too much talking, joyfully playing chess for nearly three hours like two children.

Upstairs, after hearing what Xia Jinyuan had said, Ye Jian pondered for a moment before saying, ”It doesn’t matter if they know, and nobody has confirmed it to them; I’m not worried.”

”Old Master Li has passed away, and Madam Li is currently locked in a battle of wits with her stepson, while Madam Li is closely watched by Staff Officer Du; even if she knows, she can do nothing to me because Staff Officer Du won’t let her cause any trouble.”
