Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Gao Xiao kept a close watch on Chen Shuzhen’s every move. When she noticed Chen Shuzhen’s camera lens suddenly shift ever so slightly, she immediately looked up in the direction it pointed and saw two people sitting in front— the Special Police Captain and Xia Jinyuan.

Realizing something was amiss, she didn’t hesitate to demand the camera from Chen Shuzhen.

”Hmph, who doesn’t understand her little schemes? I knew at a glance what she wanted to report. She’s definitely going to say the Chinese peacekeepers are slacking off.”

Qiu Tong, seeing her become animated and worried that Ye Jian might think she wasn’t composed enough, quickly intervened, ”Alright, alright, if you keep going on like that, you’ll turn into a fortune teller who knows exactly what Reporter Chen is up to.”

”Ugh, being the worm in her stomach would be disgusting. I was just being proactive!” Gao Xiao raised her eyebrows and grinned at Ye Jian, seeking praise, ”Instructor Ye, you have to admit I did a pretty job this time.”

Ye Jian smiled and nodded, ”To know your friends and foes is to be undefeated in a hundred battles. Not bad at all, you did beautifully. With you keeping an eye on Reporter Chen, we can all rest easy.”

Pleased with the praise, Gao Xiao couldn’t help feeling smug, but she tried to act modestly and said pretentiously, ”It was alright, I guess. I just thought we needed to be more vigilant here than usual. Better safe than sorry, right?”

Qiu Tong raised her hand and gave her a pat on the back, ”Still playing coy after gaining an advantage? Do you think we’re fools?”

For a while, the entire tent was filled with laughter. Ye Jian, watching the female soldiers, felt the smile in her eyes grow deeper. Conversing and laughing together, they hardly noticed night had fallen.

Come the next day, an article from Wanhai surfaced before Ye Jian in the form of photographs. Seeing the words there, Ye Jian couldn’t help but give a wry smile, ”Distorting right and wrong, it’s all a matter of personal bias. The entire report is filled with conjecture, amplifying subjective thoughts, causing the public to prematurely accept her version of events as indisputably true. This Reporter Chen... is really something else.”

Ye Jian, commenting on the photographed report, caught Xia Jinyuan’s gaze. He let out a wistful sigh and pointed with his lean fingers to the photo at the top of the report, ”I didn’t ask you to look at the report— we all know it’s false. Look at this here, what’s in the picture.”

Following his voice, Ye Jian took a glance, then brought the photo closer to take a careful look. She was surprised, ”My silhouette? When did she take this? Didn’t we say we’d destroyed all her photos?”

”What Gao Xiao destroyed was the later loaded film roll. The one with the picture of your silhouette was from the previously withdrawn old roll,” Xia Jinyuan said, tilting his head as they closely examined the photo in Ye Jian’s hands. ”A photo of a silhouette won’t cause any problems. Since it’s not the front, it’s fine.”

In the Chinese peacekeeping camp, Ye Jian wasn’t the only peacekeeping female soldier. Reporter Chen merely captured a silhouette without a face, so indeed, the problem wasn’t significant.

But there was a line in the report that read, ”The Chinese peacekeeping female soldiers are all beauties, and the peacekeeper woman in the captured silhouette is the most exquisite, rivaling a Wanhai star.” It seemed like an offhand comment, but when combined with the entire article, it appeared to mislead towards a negative connotation.

At this time, with the internet widespread in Wanhai, various rumors emerged online following the article, ranging from good to bad. The military took note of the article and saw the myriad of rumors on the Wanhai internet. Without saying much else, the noon military news broadcast focused on an incident of a training error within the Wanhai forces, instantly overshadowing Chen Shuzhen’s inaccurate report.
