Chapter 350: Chapter 234: The Results Are In: Rewards and Punishments

...

The next day, early in the morning.

Inside a hotel by West Lake in Xiao City.

Xie Bin, dressed in pajamas, was sunbathing leisurely on his balcony, waiting for the morning’s stock market report.

After yesterday’s social media storm, fanned by the manipulative articles planted by his team, he was sure of what would happen.

He believed that as soon as the market opened, the Jin Pharmaceutical Group’s stock would plummet, hitting its daily limit. For Jin Yihong, that would be another loss of over a billion.

Moreover, this kind of loss would repeat every single day.

Xie Bin was eager to see just how many days Jin Yihong could hold out under such pressure.

He had learned that most of the funds Jin Yihong used for the recent share buyback were borrowed. Even if she could stomach the losses, her creditors certainly wouldn’t spare her.

Xie Bin was just waiting for Jin Yihong to come to his door, apologize, and beg him to buy the shares off her hands.

’If she knew it would come to this, why did she ever start?’

Xie Bin was in a very relaxed mood. The longer this dragged on, the more it benefited him, and the more passive Jin Yihong’s position would become.

Meanwhile, in various villas throughout Xiao City.

The former shareholders of the Jin Pharmaceutical Group were all closely watching the stock market and the latest moves from Jin Yihong’s team.

They were dying to know how Jin Yihong planned to clean up this mess.

With losses of over a billion day after day, how many people could possibly endure it?

The most terrifying part was that this situation was set to become the new normal. Right now, only Pfizer could be Jin Yihong’s savior.

Out of consideration for their long-standing relationships, some shareholders still sent messages to Jin Yihong. They urged her to find Xie Bin as soon as possible to make peace and apologize. That was the only way she could salvage some of her fortune and have a chance to make a comeback.

However, Jin Yihong turned a deaf ear to all this noise.

Soon, Xie Bin also learned that Jin Yihong had taken her core team to Qinghe City the day before.

Xie Bin almost laughed. ’At a time like this, she’s still thinking about seeking help from domestic experts?’

In such a short time, not even a miracle could complete the research for the Banzhe Project. And as for Fengmu Tiada producing results? He might as well believe that he, Xie Bin, was the First Emperor of Qin!

Xie Bin turned his phone’s ringer to maximum volume, picked up an eye mask, covered his eyes, and lay down.

Just as he was about to close his eyes and relax, his phone rang.

Xie Bin’s first reaction was that Jin Yihong was calling to apologize.

But to his surprise, the call was from his superior at the Southern Country Pfizer Headquarters.

He wondered if his boss had heard about his impending acquisition of the Jin Pharmaceutical Group and was calling to praise him.

However, after he answered, his boss immediately started cursing him out. Finally, in a disappointed and cold tone, his boss informed him:

”Xie Bin, you have been removed from your position as President of the Pfizer Jin Country Region. As for the damage to the Pfizer Group’s reputation and the losses you’ve caused, the company’s legal department will be coming after you...”

At the end of the call, his boss couldn’t resist adding one last curse:

”Xie Bin, you’re a complete idiot! How dare you! Colluding with the FDA to authorize and sell a garbage drug that hadn’t even passed Phase III clinical trials!”

”Xie Bin, you are so dead.”

His boss hung up, leaving Xie Bin stunned and terrified.

Immediately after, Xu Kunlin’s call came in.

Xie Bin answered the phone numbly, his mind still reeling from his boss’s tirade and the news of his termination.

”President Xie, we’re finished.”

”The toxic side effects of Sorafenib have been exposed—and in the most authoritative journal, *The Lancet*!”

Filled with regret and despair, Xu Kunlin said one last thing to Xie Bin:

”Xie Bin, we underestimated Wu Ting, Jin Yihong, and their R&D team.”

After hanging up, Xu Kunlin sent two links.

Xie Bin clicked on them and started to read.

It was an issue of *The Lancet* that had been rushed out overnight. They had specifically reposted Dr. Wu Ting’s article on their official website.

Corresponding Author: Dr. Wu Ting, Deputy Director of Hepatic Tumor Surgery, Jin Country Fan City First Hospital. First Author: Zhang Heng, Deputy Director of the Emergency Department, Jin Country Fan City First Hospital. Second Author: Jia Jun...

Paper: ”A Clinical Study on the Fatal Toxic Side Effects of Pfizer’s New Drug Sorafenib and a Discussion on the Authority of FDA Certification”

...

Seeing that title, and the name of the corresponding author, Xie Bin’s heart clenched.

He knew he was truly doomed beyond redemption.

After clicking the other link, Xie Bin understood even more clearly why his boss had insulted him, calling him dumber than an animal.

...

...

While the involved parties, Xie Bin and Xu Kunlin, were seeing the news, it was already going viral in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in public discourse.

The punishment notice from the Administration was especially explosive:

Regarding the malicious, despicable, and sinister actions of Ruihui Pharmaceutical, the Administration has issued the following claims and penalties against Ruihui Pharmaceutical:

First: Effective immediately, all of Ruihui Pharmaceutical’s Sorafenib products are to be recalled. All use of this drug is to be halted in all hospitals.

Second: A claim of 7 billion gold yuan is to be made against Ruihui Pharmaceutical. Of this amount, 500 million gold yuan will be used for the treatment and compensation of affected patients and their families. 450 million gold yuan will be used to mitigate the negative impact of this incident. 1 billion gold yuan will be used to establish a fund to sponsor domestic pharmaceutical companies and research teams in developing new drugs for primary liver cancer. The remaining 5 billion gold yuan will be used to cover other damages!

Alongside this punishment notice for Ruihui, there was also a commendation notice for Wu Ting’s research team:

”. . . In recognition of the research team led by Dr. Wu Ting for reporting the defective drug Sorafenib from a certain pharmaceutical company, and for their high sense of responsibility and outstanding contributions to the life and health of the people. A reward of 1 million international currency will be given to Wu Ting personally. A reward of 5 million international currency will be given to the Jin Pharmaceutical Group and the Wu’s Pharmaceutical Company research teams for their financial, material, and intellectual contributions to this effort. . .”
