Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

After seeing a few patients, a woman in her thirties came in.

The patient was frail. After entering, she began to describe her situation to Wu Ting.

”Director Wu, I don’t know what’s going on, but for the past two days, I’ve developed linear bleeding under all ten of my fingernails.”

The patient was clearly flustered and worried.

Looking at the patient’s outstretched hands, Wu Ting also felt a chill.

All ten fingernails had streaks of blood underneath them. If it were just one nail, it could be from a traumatic injury.

But how could all ten fingers suddenly develop the same symptom?

Wu Ting had never seen this condition before.

However, Wu Ting’s skills were quite comprehensive, and he was able to connect it to some possible issues.

”Do you have any prior medical history, or have you experienced any other discomfort recently?”

Wu Ting continued the consultation.

The patient answered dejectedly:

”I was previously diagnosed with mid-stage primary liver cancer. I’ve been receiving regular conservative treatment, and my condition has been very stable.”

”These blood streaks under my nails... they aren’t related to that, are they?”

Wu Ting checked the patient’s medical records. She had indeed been treated for primary liver cancer at City First Hospital.

Her attending physician was Deputy Director Zhang Heng, who had been giving her regular transcatheter arterial chemoembolization combined with antiviral therapy.

According to conventional experience, this condition shouldn’t be related to transcatheter arterial chemoembolization.

As for antiviral therapy, it was even less likely to cause splinter hemorrhages.

Wu Ting inquired about the patient’s condition in more detail. After ruling out various possibilities, only one other remained.

”Based on my current judgment, painless subungual linear hemorrhages often appear in patients with infective myocarditis or rheumatoid arthritis. They are frequently considered a precursor to thrombosis and embolism.”

After hearing Wu Ting’s analysis, the patient shook her head.

”Director Wu, that can’t be right. I’ve never had rheumatoid arthritis before.”

As for infective myocarditis, no one would dare to take that lightly.

”Alright, how about this? I’ll contact a doctor from Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Rheumatology and Immunology Department. It’s best to have you run some tests and get screened.”

”If those two issues are ruled out, we’ll continue to monitor you. Normally, no treatment is needed. They should gradually disappear as your nails grow out, without any special intervention.”

After his recent experience in the outpatient clinic, Wu Ting had matured considerably.

With his new position as a deputy director, the patients’ trust in him had also naturally increased.

After hearing Wu Ting’s diagnosis, the patient immediately went to Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Rheumatology and Immunology Department for further examination.

Wu Ting moved on to diagnose the next patient.

An hour later, Wu Ting contacted the doctors from the Rheumatology and Immunology Department and Cardiothoracic Surgery again.

The patient with the splinter hemorrhages had undergone a full workup. She had neither infective myocarditis nor any rheumatological or immunological diseases.

The other various tests also failed to find the cause of her condition. Since she had no other discomfort, the decision was made to hold off on treatment and simply monitor her closely.

After his shift in the emergency department ended, Wu Ting found the directors of the Rheumatology and Immunology and Cardiothoracic Surgery departments to review the patient’s case.

It seemed that the deep-seated, specific pathogenic cause for this patient could not be found.

However, they were able to determine one thing: the physiological repair function of the capillaries in the patient’s nail beds was impaired.

But as for what had caused this physiological damage to the capillaries, current clinical experience offered no answers.

After all, the field of medicine was full of too many possibilities. No single doctor or hospital could be omniscient.

In all his time practicing, Wu Ting had diagnosed more and more patients, and he had encountered many conditions with unknown causes. Most of the time, the treatment was purely symptomatic.

This was the norm in medicine. This patient’s case was just one among many, and Wu Ting didn’t dwell on it.

...

After getting off work from the emergency department, Wu Ting went to his lab.

Now that the screening for the lead compound was complete, the next step was the preclinical research phase.

For normal drug development, the final outcome is unknown, so it’s a process of trial and error, fraught with difficulties and setbacks.

But it was different for Wu Ting. Under his ”synthesis” trait, he already had a clear direction—a straight path forward. All he needed to do was follow the procedure.

Therefore, Wu Ting’s mindset was very calm and composed.

While Jia Jun was in charge of the pharmaceutical research, Wu Ting began to arrange for a group to conduct pharmacological and toxicological studies.

Wu Ting personally designed and arranged the experimental procedures.

Following the relevant regulations in the *New Drug Approval Methods and Related Regulations Compilation (I)*, he began the acute toxicity and pharmacodynamic animal experiments for Fengmu Tiada.

The purpose of the animal experiments was to systematically observe and understand the drug’s capabilities in various aspects.

Wu Ting designed a systematic and comprehensive list of the relevant experimental materials:

Test drug: Lead Compound No. 75.

Experimental animals: Kunming mice, weighing 18-22g, both male and female, procured from the Xiaoshan Animal Center of Jin Pharmaceutical Group.

Experimental methods included an acute toxicity test, a pharmacodynamics experiment, a mouse macrophage phagocytosis function test (carbon clearance test), etc...

Wu Ting then summarized the key points:

”For the pharmacological study of our new drug this time, everyone needs to do the following:”
