Chapter 326: Chapter 226: Opportunity: Great Rewards for Brave Men

Pfizer Company had also clearly invested hundreds of millions. They were determined to win a battle of cash flow against Jin Pharmaceutical Group!

Xie Bin’s team had a clear objective: to tank Jin Pharmaceutical Group’s stock price and shatter its cash flow. They were willing to throw tens of billions, even hundreds of billions, at the problem. As long as they won, they would recoup their investment many times over.

The situation for Jin Pharmaceutical Group, however, was completely different.

They simply couldn’t afford a protracted battle. On one hand, their stock was plummeting as numerous investors began to pull their funding and dump their shares. On the other hand, they couldn’t just give up on the Yangzheng Xiujie Pill, which had already been approved for the market. Production had to continue, and the drug had to be launched.

The only problem was that its expected market share had been drastically reduced, and their initial negotiating leverage had evaporated.

After Sorafenib seized a huge portion of the market, there would still be some crumbs left. But once the Yangzheng Xiujie Pill entered production, its higher costs and lower sales would mean that overall profits would plummet.

Nevertheless, Jin Pharmaceutical Group had to bite the bullet and press on. At the very least, they could recoup some of their capital.

The issue was, ramping up production under these conditions meant that many of their newly expanded factories and production lines would sit idle, along with the equipment.

This was another major headache for Jin Pharmaceutical Group.

In short, Xie Bin’s opening salvo had thrown Jin Pharmaceutical Group into a desperate struggle for survival.

...

...

Jin Pharmaceutical Group.

Another board meeting was called. This time, a palpable gloom hung over everyone present.

In the face of Pfizer’s precision strike, Jin Pharmaceutical Group was facing its first existential crisis since its founding.

Some of the more fainthearted shareholders were already considering selling their stock to cut their losses before the company went completely under.

Jin Yihong carefully analyzed Pfizer’s new drug. In terms of clinical efficacy, FDA certification, side effects, name recognition, and brand power, it absolutely crushed the Yangzheng Xiujie Pill...

A head-to-head fight was a losing battle, but the company’s own core product, the Banzhe Project, was still in the R&D phase. It was a distant solution to a very immediate fire.

’What can we do?’

Jin Yihong had asked Lou Musaang and Jia Jun’s R&D team. They said it would be at least a month before they could even begin Phase I clinical trials...

”A month? The market and the investors won’t give us that much time.”

”We have to find a breakthrough immediately, even if it’s only a concept. We need to stabilize market confidence.”

”We need a brand-new drug project, something that can stand on its own merits and has the endorsement of a top-tier international research institute.”

”Only with a conceptual drug like that can we continue to raise funds, continue our research, and keep holding on...”

As Jin Yihong was working through the scenarios, Lou Musaang and Jia Jun simultaneously thought of a possibility.

”Remember Professor Lin Ning’s team at the HHMI Research Institute in the Southern Country?”

”Our company invested in Dr. Wu Ting’s project, Fengmu Tiada, a new drug intended to cure primary liver cancer caused by Hepatitis B.”

”That project has Professor Lin Ning’s approval, and the HHMI Research Institute is even willing to provide long-term funding for it!”

”Could we possibly package Dr. Wu Ting’s project as a new conceptual collaboration for Jin Pharmaceutical Group? We could get Professor Lin Ning’s endorsement, maybe even an endorsement from a special issue of *Cell*.”

”The most convincing part is that Wu Ting’s R&D team was recently courted heavily by Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and GSK... What’s more, his project just secured recognition and investment from the Jinggang University Mother Fund and the Fan City Mother Fund. There’s definitely something there we can package...”

Jin Yihong was a business veteran. She knew that sometimes, giving the market confidence was all about selling them a dream.

And Wu Ting’s Fengmu Tiada project was clearly a better candidate to present to the world than Lou Musaang’s Banzhe Project.

They could publicly promote Fengmu Tiada as a pure concept to win back market confidence, while secretly continuing to develop Banzhe. It was a two-pronged approach.

No matter what, it would at least buy Jin Pharmaceutical Group some breathing room.

It looked like Jin Yihong needed to have a good, long talk with the young Dr. Wu Ting. Of course, the benefits she’d offer him would have to be substantial.

’Great rewards are what make a man brave, after all!’
