Chapter 340: Chapter 231: Making a Move: Challenging Authority and Taking Down Pfizer’s Plan

Looking at Wu Ting’s expression, Zhang Heng finally understood what he meant.

A jolt went through him, and he asked in astonishment:

”Director Wu, are you saying that Pfizer’s new drug, Sorafenib, causes cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, and thrombotic diseases? No way. It passed the FDA certification and completed all three phases of clinical trials. If your theory is correct, there’s no way this new drug could have been approved and brought to market...”

As he spoke, the realization slowly dawned on Zhang Heng, and his jaw dropped.

”Director Wu, this is no joke!”

Wu Ting smiled slightly and looked at Zhang Heng.

”I also hope my theory is wrong. But the fact is, Sorafenib does indeed have these kinds of problems.”

Wu Ting pulled out the statistics on the patients Zhang Heng had been following up with, marking each case one by one.

All the medical records from the various departments at City First Hospital were networked, so he could also pull up and compare consultation records from different departments.

”Three of the patients experienced subungual splinter hemorrhages... two cases were mild, but one had dramatic blood lines under all ten fingernails...”

”Ten patients experienced transient increases in blood pressure, which resolved after symptomatic treatment...”

”One patient developed hand-foot syndrome and was later treated symptomatically by the dermatology department...”

”Two patients developed thrombosis of varying degrees, with President Liang’s case being the most severe... And President Liang’s situation was most likely caused by him intentionally shortening the interval between treatments to rush his experiment’s progress, combined with exhaustion...”

”Another two had gastrointestinal reactions...”

After finishing his analysis, Wu Ting listed the specific symptoms of the patients who had acute toxic reactions.

”Director Zhang, you see, based on relevant pharmacological and toxicological theories, we can deduce that there’s a high probability Sorafenib has problems.”

”It’s just that our current sample size is too small.”

Wu Ting thought for a moment and came up with an ambitious two-part plan. The first part was to directly conduct a toxicology experiment on Sorafenib in the lab. The second was to contact various hospitals that had already introduced Sorafenib into clinical practice to collect and analyze their case data.

”Director Zhang, I have an idea. Starting today, I want you to suspend your project on Sorafenib combination therapy. Instead, work with me to test Sorafenib’s toxic side effects. If we really manage to prove our theory...”

”Then this will be a massive scandal in the history of new drug development. It will also be a perfect challenge from our domestic team of clinical doctors against international top-tier pharmaceutical companies and authorities like the Southern Country FDA!”

”This would be far more significant than proposing a clinical study on Sorafenib combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization.”

”Moreover, taking down this new drug with its severe defects and fatal toxic side effects, forcing Pfizer to issue a recall, and securing sky-high compensation for the victims is a much more meaningful endeavor.”

”This would also be a major boost to your reputation in the medical field, Director Zhang.”

”Director Zhang, what do you say we join forces?”

Wu Ting wanted to pull Zhang Heng in, of course, to use his existing research group, team, personnel, and equipment as a foundation. This way, they could seize the perfect opportunity in the commercial battle against Pfizer.

Originally, Wu Ting had only intended to use this confrontation with Pfizer to accumulate his first pot of medical research funding. But with this discovery, the situation had changed entirely.

Considering how Pfizer and Xie Bin used such vile means to suppress independent, self-sufficient domestic companies, Wu Ting knew he had to strike back hard.

Zhang Heng was no pushover either. He never expected to have accidentally stumbled upon the Achilles’ heel of Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company’s new drug.

The chance to challenge a top-tier international pharmaceutical company, and even the world’s most authoritative Southern Country FDA—for someone like Zhang Heng, who was obsessed with power and prestige, this was simply irresistible.

”Director Wu, I agree with your plan. What do we need to do next? I’ll give you my full cooperation.”

Zhang Heng looked at Wu Ting’s calm expression, feeling a sense of admiration for the young man before him. ’If we pull this off, we’re really going to blow a hole in the world of pharmaceutical R&D!’

Wu Ting quickly formulated a complete plan.

”Director Zhang, here’s how it’ll work. You’ll be in charge of structuring the entire project framework and writing the paper. The title of our paper will be ’A Clinical Study on the Fatal Toxic Side Effects of Pfizer’s New Drug, Sorafenib, and a Discussion on the Authority of FDA Certification’...”

Hearing such a sharply provocative paper title from Wu Ting, Zhang Heng couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement and exhilaration.

’This Wu Ting is so young, but he really knows how to stir things up!’

If this paper was actually completed, verified, and published, it would be a huge blow and a humiliation for Pfizer and the FDA!

He imagined the paper’s author list: Corresponding Author: Wu Ting. First Author: Zhang Heng.

Zhang Heng wished he could start the research immediately.

Wu Ting, taking in the big picture, continued:

”During this time, I’ll have Dr. Jia Jun lead a team to begin experiments on Sorafenib’s toxic side effects in the lab.”

”At the same time, I will personally contact the Hepatic Tumor Surgery departments at the top hospitals in the country. I’ll collect all the data on patients who have been treated with Sorafenib and hand it all over to you for organization and statistical analysis.”

”Once I’ve made contact, you should quickly draw up the inclusion criteria for patients in our research group, so I can coordinate with the relevant department directors.”
