Chapter 151: Chapter 1141: Expert Consensus, Successfully Reached

The long-awaited expert consensus on Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy was finally here.

The meeting was held in the main conference room of the Emergency Department at Fan City First Hospital.

A day in advance, City First Hospital had already set up blue directional signs leading from the main entrance all the way to the Emergency Department. A banner was stretched across the main entrance of the Emergency Department building itself:

”Welcome, esteemed surgical experts from across the country, to the Fan City First Hospital Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Research Center!”

One after another, the teams of experts arrived at Fan City First Hospital.

Previously, experts from these top-tier hospitals had rarely paid much attention to Fan City First Hospital, let alone visited for academic exchanges.

The research center’s team had dispatched a reception committee early on to welcome the experts attending the conference.

Professor Fu from Jin Country Medical University Affiliated First Hospital, Director Hu from Luochuan University Luochuan Hospital... and so on. These top experts were all guided to the main conference room.

Professor Liang Ang of Lin Province Pinfan Hospital and Dean Liu Rong of Jin Country General Hospital also arrived at Fan City First Hospital together.

Both were deeply interested in the consensus meeting and held even greater expectations for Fan City’s new research center.

After all the experts had arrived, Professor Ma Mengchao, Professor Shen Guofeng, and Professor Jin Yu, representatives from the research center’s three partner institutions, were also punctually in attendance.

Wu Ting, Dr. Yan Xi, and the team’s other Ph.D.s began distributing printed materials to the attending experts—a draft of the expert consensus, research papers from Wu Ting’s team, and related internal documents prepared for the meeting, like case-study photographs.

Once Wu Ting and his team had finished distributing the documents, the expert consensus meeting officially began.

Professor Ma Mengchao, the initiator of the event, opened the meeting with a speech:

”First, on behalf of our research center, I would like to welcome all the experts... A preliminary draft of this expert consensus has been prepared by our Fan City First Hospital Research Center... The goal of this meeting is to draft a medical expert consensus that will resolve standing issues and provide guidance for Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy!”

”By consolidating the knowledge and experience of all the medical experts attending today, we will create a unified document. We will ensure its rigor and authority to provide our field of hepatobiliary surgery with a consensus that it can reference and depend on!”

Ma Mengchao was, as expected of a leader at the quasi-academician level, perfectly at ease. He handled this top-tier industry conference with an orderly, calm, and composed demeanor.

”Everyone, the concept of ’daytime surgery’ refers to a surgery or procedure in which the patient is admitted and discharged within one day (24 hours). In recent years, our national health authorities have been attempting to promote a daytime model for laparoscopic cholecystectomy.”

”Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy can significantly shorten hospital stays, lower the risk of nosocomial infections, accelerate patient recovery, improve the efficiency of our medical resources, and reduce healthcare costs. Therefore, this expert consensus holds immense clinical significance.”

”To create this consensus, we have invited renowned experts from across the country in the fields of surgery, anesthesiology, and nursing. Our hope is to provide a reference for the exploration and development of a standardized Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, thereby promoting its standardized application and widespread adoption!”

After Professor Ma finished his speech, the gathered experts expressed their agreement, honored to be part of such a major event for their field.

Following Professor Ma’s speech, the attendees were given some time to read through the materials detailing the achievements of Wu Ting’s team.

The attachments in the initial invitation had to be concise, so they had only offered a brief overview.

The experts began to read earnestly, paying special attention to the paper on the Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy pioneered by Wu Ting, which formed the very basis for this consensus meeting.

Professor Liu Wei, a hepatobiliary surgeon from Zhongnan University Yacheng Hospital, raised a critical question:

”Professor Ma, and Dr. Wu’s team, according to our country’s surgical classification regulations, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is classified as a Level III surgery. The chief surgeon is required to be a senior attending physician with at least three years of experience. Furthermore, there are explicit requirements regarding the number of procedures they must have performed.”

”But according to the draft of the expert consensus your team has prepared, the procedure could be performed by a senior resident. It also significantly lowers the required number of prior surgeries for the doctor. Is that really appropriate?”

Many of the professors present shared the skepticism behind Professor Liu’s question.

”Professor Liu, esteemed experts, my name is Wu Ting. I’m the director of the Fan City First Hospital Research Center for Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment, and the originator of the Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy technique on which this consensus is based.”

”A description in a research paper alone might not be intuitive enough. For that reason, we’ve prepared video footage of the surgery for this meeting. To give all of you a more direct understanding, we will now play it for you.”

”Furthermore, after the meeting, you are all welcome to visit our research center’s operating rooms to observe a live procedure.”

As Wu Ting spoke, his assistant, Cheng Feng, began to play the surgery video.

Seeing how young Wu Ting was, the experts in the room couldn’t help but be astonished.

Many of them had already read Wu Ting’s paper, and some were even aware of his achievements, which had been featured in the *Jin Country Surgery Journal Wu Ting Special Issue*.

They all settled in to watch the surgical video patiently.

On the screen was a classic Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, a collaboration between Wu Ting, Deputy Director Huang Hong, and Dr. Yan Xi.

They watched the surgical technique, which integrated the concepts of National Medicine with modern medicine and incorporated the cutting-edge use of indocyanine green.

With the exception of a select few, most of the expert professors present were grasping the full significance of this surgery for the very first time.

After the time-lapsed surgical video concluded, Wu Ting presented the complete records for every Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy performed at City First Hospital to date—covering admission, surgery, and discharge for every patient.

When the presentation was over, Professor Liu Wei broke into admiring applause.

The other professors followed suit, filling the room with applause.

Without a doubt, the paper and surgical data from Wu Ting’s team had completely convinced every expert in the room.

Now that the experts had acknowledged the validity of this Surgical Technique for Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Wu Ting put forth his first proposal.

”To ensure the successful promotion and implementation of Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, our team proposes that our research center establish relevant training programs and, concurrently, form a Daytime Surgery Review and Management Committee.”

”Only physicians who have passed our research center’s training and assessment will be certified to establish programs for and perform this Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy at their respective hospitals.”

”This is a crucial part of the expert consensus we are building today, as it will allow us to thoroughly standardize the certification and credentialing of surgeons for this procedure.”

Hearing Wu Ting’s proposal, the experts paused to think for a moment before a murmur of discussion broke out across the room.

After all, this was a momentous decision. If it passed, the Fan City First Hospital Research Center would become the true wellspring and authority for Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, possessing the power to certify and grant approval.

”Of course, this is only for the initial launch and promotion phase. Once the first batch of certified surgeons has matured and various hospitals have established their own experienced, independent teams, the City First Hospital Research Center will delegate the authority of this review and management committee back to the individual hospitals.”

”Approval and authorization will then be handled internally by each hospital. At the same time, quality control reviews should be conducted every one to two years to assess a surgeon’s completion rates and complication rates for daytime procedures. Any surgeon who fails to meet the quality control standards should have their certification to perform Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy revoked.”

”This expert consensus also strictly defines the requirements for medical institutions to perform this Surgical Technique. They must possess the necessary equipment, including fluorescence laparoscopy systems and integrated National Medicine devices. It also sets strict certification standards for surgical team members and mandates regular quality control reviews. Only by doing this can this Surgical Technique truly become the new industry standard for Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy!”

With a demeanor that was neither servile nor arrogant, Wu Ting laid out his requirements and proposals before the nation’s top experts.

Cheng Feng, Yan Xi, and the rest of the team were both nervous and excited. This was a moment that would go down in history.

”The Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Lin Province Hospital agrees with the proposal from Dr. Wu Ting’s team. We are willing to send our first batch of doctors to the Fan City First Hospital Research Center to receive training on this Surgical Technique and undergo the assessment.”

While most of the experts were still hesitating, Professor Liang was the first to declare his support.

”The Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Jin Country General Hospital also seconds the proposal from Dr. Wu Ting’s team. We will soon dispatch our first group of doctors to the Fan City First Hospital Research Center for advanced training in this Surgical Technique and to undergo the assessment.”

Dean Liu Rong had grown quite fond of Wu Ting. After stating his position, he added another comment.

”Dr. Wu, beyond just this daytime surgery, our hospital is also paying close attention to and recognizes the value of the other new Surgical Techniques from your research center. We look forward to mutual learning and exchange between our institutions. The team from the City First Hospital Research Center would be most welcome to visit us for academic exchanges.”

If Professor Liang Ang’s support was relatively reserved, Dean Liu’s was completely direct. Right there in the conference room, he gave Wu Ting’s team his full-throated endorsement and unwavering support.

The professors in attendance were quite surprised to hear the declarations from both Liang Ang and Liu Rong.

Jiuhua Hospital, Haijin Port Hospital, and Saint An Hospital were co-founders of the research center, so their support was to be expected. But the support from these other two men—that spoke volumes.

”Everyone, we at Jiuhua Hospital, Saint An Hospital, and Haijin Port Hospital have already dispatched doctoral personnel to join the center. We will also be regularly sending expert teams for ’exchange weeks’ in the future.”

”Therefore, the strength and potential of our research center are beyond question. We welcome this collaborative exchange with Lin Province Pinfan Hospital and Qinghe City Jin Country General Hospital.”

Ma Mengchao’s interjection was perfectly timed to add momentum to the proceedings.

That settled it for the remaining experts in the room.

”We at Jinling Medical University First Affiliated Hospital also agree with the proposal from Wu Ting’s team...”

”We at Hong’er City First Central Hospital second the motion!”

...

...

Soon, all the experts at the conference had voiced their support.

With the fundamental principles established, the next step was to reach a consensus on the finer details.

Wu Ting, continuing to represent the research center’s team, led the discussion on indications, contraindications, pre-operative examinations...

They discussed each step of the process in sequence.

These were top experts, after all. While the core Surgical Technique was based on Wu Ting’s research, they all contributed highly relevant suggestions regarding the other details.

Professor Liang Ang, for instance, offered some incisive opinions regarding intraoperative management.

Yan Xi and Cheng Feng diligently took notes on the side, which would be used to revise the document into its final version.

Dean Liu Rong provided his own unique insights on the criteria for patient discharge evaluation.

Following that, other experts proposed improvements to the post-operative follow-up system and the assessment of post-discharge complications.

Wu Ting’s team carefully recorded everything. It had to be said that a consensus meeting like this was truly a collective effort, drawing on the wisdom of the group to generate a wealth of valuable suggestions.

Wu Ting’s team benefited immensely from the process.

Next, the anesthesiology and nursing experts supplemented and perfected the consensus on surgical anesthesia, making the entire framework even more complete.

After a full morning of discussion, the meeting concluded perfectly.

The expert consensus on Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy had been successfully achieved!

Next on the agenda was a luncheon banquet, followed by an afternoon session for informal exchanges among the experts and a tour of the City First Hospital Research Center.

Many of the professors were now extremely interested in Wu Ting’s team and eager to see their other research achievements.
