Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 190: Chapter 172: Zhang Heng: ”???

”Oh... okay...”

Guo Guoguo couldn’t worry about much else. Right now, she could only follow Wu Ting’s instructions. To her surprise, she actually managed to get a smooth blood return...

Guo Guoguo finally let out a sigh of relief.

Just then, Wu Ting had already handed over the 4F catheter.

Guo Guoguo took it smoothly, feeling a wave of gratitude. ’This Dr. Wu is so considerate. With Wu Ting’s help, I bet the doctors in the observation room can’t even tell how badly I’m doing.’

Guo Guoguo felt another pang of shame. ’I’ve really embarrassed myself today.’

After completing these steps, Guo Guoguo began the second part of her assistance.

Zhang Heng also started inserting the super-slippery guidewire, feeling a little surprised himself. It was obvious Wu Ting was also very experienced with this procedure.

Just a moment ago, he had been about to take over from Guo Guoguo directly. He never expected Wu Ting to guide her to success with just a few words.

It was a clear demonstration of Wu Ting’s rich clinical experience, and the calm demeanor of someone used to leading a surgery. A typical junior doctor would be lucky to manage their own tasks, let alone guide an assistant so effortlessly.

Zhang Heng didn’t dare to be careless with his next steps. After all, he couldn’t afford to slip up in front of an expert like Wu Ting.

After composing herself, Guo Guoguo also began to display her professionalism.

The two began to push the contrast agent, directing it to the target vessel...

Then came the embolization therapy. They used gelatin sponge particles of various lengths, loaded them into a syringe, added diluted contrast medium, and injected it under fluoroscopy to occlude the feeding artery...

Next, under fluoroscopy of the metallic coil, they pushed it into place with saline solution, then injected more gelatin sponge to consolidate the embolization...

Overall, the rest of the procedure went very smoothly. Wu Ting didn’t have to intervene, and Guo Guoguo managed to save some face.

Watching Zhang Heng operate, Wu Ting felt he was actually quite good. His skill level was at least seventy percent of her own.

Of course, throughout the procedure, there were still some areas that could be improved.

With this kind of Surgical Technique, different hospitals and different experts would all have their own personal insights and refined improvements.

What Wu Ting had acquired was the lifelong mastery of Fu Jinfen, the Director of Hepatic Tumor Surgery at Haijin Port. Forget Zhang Heng; even the director of hepatic tumor surgery at the Provincial Tumor Hospital couldn’t necessarily compare to Director Fu, especially since Director Fu had some unique techniques.

Therefore, Wu Ting felt that if Zhang Heng could incorporate Director Fu’s insights and techniques, the quality of his surgery could definitely advance to a whole new level.

The surgery was finally completed successfully.

In the operating room and the observation room, everyone was lost in their own thoughts.

Guo Guoguo had now completely shed her condescending attitude toward Wu Ting. After the surgery was over, she quietly whispered a word of thanks to her.

”Dr. Wu, thank you for helping me out of that tight spot today. I never expected you to be so skilled at hepatic artery chemoembolization. I thought it was your first time participating in a surgery like this and even wanted to teach you. How embarrassing.”

Guo Guoguo was very direct and poised.

Wu Ting smiled faintly. ”You’re too kind. I’ve been studying with Director Fu recently, so I know a little about this procedure. Compared to Director Fu’s techniques, the operational details at the Provincial Tumor Hospital certainly have their own merits.”

Wu Ting was being polite. The two hospitals, two schools of thought, naturally had their respective strengths. But when it came to the individuals, the skill gap between Wu Ting and Zhang Heng was like a dimensional crush; the current Zhang Heng was not qualified to teach Wu Ting anything.

After hearing this, Zhang Heng was also somewhat impressed by Wu Ting’s performance and suddenly had an idea.

”Dr. Wu, I didn’t realize you had such a deep understanding of hepatic artery chemoembolization. I’ve long admired Director Fu from Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital’s Hepatic Tumor Surgery department. I was wondering, could we perhaps gather our colleagues from the observation room for an impromptu exchange?”

”We can each share the differences in detail between the Provincial Tumor Hospital and Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital’s approaches to hepatic artery chemoembolization. It would give everyone a more comprehensive understanding and allow us to learn from each other’s strengths.”

Zhang Heng was very enthusiastic about this kind of academic exchange. After all, he was eloquent and had top-notch skills. In this type of setting, he could take the initiative, control the pace, and seize the opportunity to showcase his overall capabilities.

At the same time, he wanted to use this opportunity to have Wu Ting critique his surgery. Through the words of someone with Wu Ting’s prestige and skill from the City First Hospital Research Center, praise, admiration, and approval for him would be more convincing to the other doctors, who were impressed without fully understanding the nuances.

Wu Ting didn’t mind. It was always good to be exposed to more clinical scenarios.

Guo Guoguo was all for it. For a doctor at her level, this kind of high-level discussion was an excellent learning opportunity.

Soon, Zhang Heng organized the post-operative discussion.

Lu Xuejun, Qin Donglai, Yasui, Luo Ming, and the others were all there.

First, Guo Guoguo got the ball rolling by sharing the problem she had encountered with the puncture during the Seldinger Technique.

She also explained the guidance she had received from both Director Zhang and Wu Ting.

The experience had left a deep impression on her; it was a very practical and classic solution to a real-time problem.

Listening to Guo Guoguo candidly use her own mistake as a case study, everyone admired the girl’s courage and sincerity.

Of course, they were also surprised to learn that Wu Ting was so skilled in hepatic artery chemoembolization.

Next, Zhang Heng shared some of his own experiences and techniques, winning a round of applause.

Seeing that the mood was right, Zhang Heng started to prod Wu Ting into praising his skills:

”Dr. Wu, you’ve been studying with Director Fu at Haijin Port, so I’m sure you have many different views and insights on hepatic artery chemoembolization. Could you offer an evaluation of my surgical performance and its various details?”

Zhang Heng even made a show of taking out a notebook to jot down notes.

Wu Ting, of course, was polite enough to play along. She offered some perfunctory, courteous praise. In truth, Zhang Heng’s performance was commendable, just a bit short of excellent. But it was still very good.

Hearing Wu Ting’s polite praise, Zhang Heng was quite satisfied. Being praised like this by Wu Ting made the others, who didn’t know any better, nod in agreement. ’If Dr. Wu says Director Zhang is skilled, he must be really skilled.’

Even Cheng Feng and Yasui nodded repeatedly. ’So Director Zhang really is that good, huh?’

After hearing this, Zhang Heng’s ego was a bit inflated. Wanting Wu Ting to continue, he put on a sincere act:

”Dr. Wu, your evaluation is a bit too polite. We’re all just exchanging ideas here. There’s no need to only praise my strengths. You can also offer some criticism so I can improve.”

Zhang Heng looked very sincere.

Wu Ting hesitated for a moment, then cautiously confirmed, ”Really?”

”Of course. It’s an exchange. If we only talk about strengths and not weaknesses, how can we ever improve?”

Wu Ting had found her own perfunctory evaluation rather bland anyway. ’Since you asked for it, don’t blame me.’ She collected her thoughts.

”Since Director Zhang is being so modest, I won’t hold back. Truthfully, there is indeed room for improvement in your technique. I’ll just briefly mention seven or eight points...”

”First, I think for the choice of catheter, we could have selected a smoother one, like a Yashiro. While that catheter is a bit more difficult to handle, it offers better safety... There’s a trick to operating it. Once you’re proficient, you can reduce the risk of injury...”

Zhang Heng: ”???”
