Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 165: Chapter 153: At the Critical Moment, It Still Has to Be Dr. Wu

Once Wu Ting and Wang Nanjin had determined the cause of the illness and formulated a surgical plan, Qin Donglai immediately contacted Director Cai.

”Director Cai, we have a diagnosis. The patient has a rare mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver. We need to perform a partial liver resection. I’ll bring the patient to the operating room as soon as I’ve made the arrangements.”

The term ”mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver” was unfamiliar to Cai Qi.

”Director Qin, I’ve never handled this condition before. Are you sure this is all right?”

Director Cai still needed further confirmation.

”Dr. Wang, the expert from Haijin Port, and Dr. Wu from our department made the diagnosis and formulated the surgical plan together.”

”When Dr. Wang was at Haijin Port, he gained a lot of practical experience working with Director Shen Xiaofei. He’s very experienced with this type of cystic liver tumor.”

”Dr. Wang’s fundamentals are very strong, and he has a brilliant resume. In the few days he’s been at our research center, he even designed a special ERCP training camp for us. He’s a very capable man.”

Qin Donglai was about to tell Cai Qi more about Wang Nanjin’s impressive accomplishments when Cai Qi abruptly cut in with a question:

”Did Dr. Wu Ting also participate in the consultation? And he confirmed and agreed to this surgical plan, to be performed in our operating room?”

Qin Donglai paused for a moment. Beside him, Wu Ting calmly interjected:

”Director Cai, I’ll be participating in this surgery as well. However, I still lack experience with liver tumor resections, so Dr. Wang should be the lead surgeon. Director Qin and you will assist him, and I’ll do what I can to help.”

Wang Nanjin spoke up as well. As an elite physician from Haijin Port, he was more than willing to step up for a procedure he felt was within his control.

”Director Cai, I can do this.”

Cai Qi thought it over. ’If it were just Wang Nanjin’s word, I’d still have my doubts. After all, I don’t know him. He’s an elite Ph.D., but for all I know, he could be one of those types who are all talk but turn out to be a pile of shit in practice. But with Wu Ting vouching for him and being there to back him up, I can rest easy.’

After everything they’d been through, to Cai Qi, Wu Ting’s presence was the ultimate reassurance.

”All right. If Dr. Wu has determined there’s no issue and says we can proceed, then bring the patient over. Let’s get the surgery done as soon as possible. You’ll have my full cooperation.”

Cai Qi’s reaction and attitude left Wang Nanjin and the other department heads feeling rather impressed.

Even Qin Donglai hadn’t expected Wu Ting to hold such a high position in Cai Qi’s eyes.

Wang Nanjin also began to truly take Wu Ting seriously. ’This young doctor really has some clout.’

In a hospital, on the clinical front lines, the only thing that truly earns respect is technical skill. Nothing else matters.

Soon, they arrived at the operating room.

Due to the patient’s unique condition—a mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver—both ultrasound and indocyanine green fluorescence guidance had significant limitations. For this procedure, Wu Ting opted to use only the 3D imaging navigation platform. Nevertheless, it would still greatly increase the surgery’s chances of success.

As expected of an elite physician from Haijin Port, Wang Nanjin, in collaboration with Wu Ting, proposed a comprehensive surgical plan.

Neither Qin Donglai nor Cai Qi had any objections.

The patient was placed under combined anesthesia, using both continuous epidural and endotracheal intubation.

”Dr. Wang, let’s begin!”

Qin Donglai, Cai Qi, and Wu Ting all assisted.

Wang Nanjin glanced at Wu Ting, a little puzzled. ’With his diagnostic skills for liver tumors, could it be that he really doesn’t know how to perform a resection? If it were me, young and ambitious as I am, I’d never let such a great opportunity to showcase my skills slip by.’

Wang Nanjin also considered another possibility. ’Or did Wu Ting deliberately give this opportunity to me?’

’After all, I’m supposed to be here as a visiting expert. I couldn’t diagnose the patient’s condition, and it was Wu Ting who made the final call. If he went on to perform the entire resection by himself, wouldn’t that make me, the so-called expert, look like a complete fraud?’

Wang Nanjin didn’t dwell on it further. ’Whatever the reason, I should be grateful to Wu Ting for giving me this chance to demonstrate my skills.’

After composing himself, Wang Nanjin made an incision under the patient’s right costal margin.

Due to the patient’s particular condition, he extended the incision slightly to the left to gain a better view of the surgical field.

Simultaneously, Wu Ting activated the auxiliary 3D imaging navigation platform, helping Dr. Wang begin to examine the abdominal organs and the state of the tumor.

This type of cystic tumor presents with numerous lesions, so a very careful review of the scans had been performed pre-operatively. Wang Nanjin was young and full of stamina, which gave him an advantage over many older doctors in this regard.

Wang Nanjin’s surgical style was incredibly meticulous. Combined with Wu Ting’s assistive technology, he was truly in his element.

Cai Qi and Qin Donglai couldn’t help but marvel. He was an expert from Haijin Port, after all.

After clearly identifying the tumor, Wang Nanjin first applied clamps, then severed the round ligament of the liver, ligating and suturing the stump with a heavy suture.

”Dr. Wang’s suturing technique is truly masterful.”

Even with his own discerning eye and level of skill, Wu Ting found Wang Nanjin’s suturing to be remarkable. ’With another three to five years of refinement, he could be on par with me,’ he thought. ’For someone his age, his talent is truly exceptional.’

Wang Nanjin had always been widely recognized as a clinical genius and was used to hearing praise.

However, none of that praise was as satisfying as this quiet acknowledgment from a fellow genius like Wu Ting.
