Chapter 173: Chapter 158: High-Level Introduced Talent: Deputy Director of Jin Province Tumor Hospital

Within City First Hospital, the Emergency Department’s research center was an ocean of joy.

The great news caused a stir throughout City First Hospital, and the hospital administration gave it the utmost publicity and commendation.

Immediately, the news was broadcast across all of the hospital’s channels—from external promotional screens and banners to its official social media accounts and other online and offline platforms.

The cover of the *Jin Country Surgery Journal* special issue, featuring Wu Ting and the three beautiful female PhDs, was brought out once again, sparking a flurry of discussion and congratulations!

Wu Ting became a hot topic once more. Winning a project grant from the National Natural Science Youth Fund at such a young age was, of course, no small feat.

With the Science Fund secured, the associated grant money would be disbursed annually. True to their word, the leadership of City First Hospital provided matching 1:1 financial support.

As a result, the research center’s funding became more than sufficient. This was a huge boost for the upcoming second phase of construction, like adding wings to a tiger!

At the research center, Wu Ting was met with congratulations and admiration from everyone!

Meanwhile, the expert team from the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital had also completed the first week of their expert exchange program.

Both teams benefited immensely from the exchange. Although Dr. Wang Nanjin had been absent due to a personal matter in Haijin Port, the rest of the teaching team received high praise and a warm send-off from the City First Hospital doctors before their departure.

The teaching team also congratulated Wu Ting’s team at the City First Hospital Research Center for securing this year’s National Youth Fund grant.

Before they left, the teaching team held a final wrap-up and farewell session in the lecture hall with Qin Donglai, Yasui, Luo Ming, and the others.

Since Wu Ting hadn’t been heavily involved in the ERCP training, he did not attend the farewell.

The teaching team didn’t mind this and raised no objections; after all, Wang Nanjin was also absent. No one realized this was an unspoken understanding between Wu Ting and Dr. Wang.

During the farewell ceremony, the teaching team left behind the training simulator system for the City First Hospital team to use for their continued practice.

As planned, the hepatobiliary surgery department from Haijin Port would continue its in-depth collaboration on ERCP technology with City First Hospital until the latter’s team could perform the procedure independently and proficiently.

Over this period, Qin Donglai and Yasui had become able to smoothly complete the six training tasks, and Cheng Feng was close to mastering them as well.

Qin Donglai thanked the teaching team on behalf of his own and then made a request:

”Physician Huang, would it be possible for you to leave some of your team’s videos of clinical procedures and a few select training clips for us to use as teaching materials?”

”Observing them would be a great help to our team’s review and learning process.”

The teaching team naturally agreed to Qin Donglai’s request.

They ultimately selected a clinical recording of Dr. Wang Nanjin from his time in the City First Hospital operating room, as well as the video of his record-breaking peak performance on the training simulator.

The clinical video from the operating room was easy to prepare; as long as the Haijin Port team gave their consent, Cheng Feng could take care of it.

However, the video of Dr. Wang’s stunning peak performance had to be located by the teaching team within the training simulator’s recording files.

Based on the time of the recording, the teaching team quickly found the video and copied it over with the other teaching materials.

The Haijin Port team also planned to permanently preserve this peak performance video. After they returned, they could use it internally as an inspirational teaching tool for their own department’s novice ERCP physicians—their new ultimate instructional video!

To this day, both the teaching team and the Fan City First Hospital team were still in awe of Dr. Wang Nanjin’s record.

The more they trained and the deeper their understanding became, the more they realized just how formidable that record was. Previously, while they were all still in the practice phase, they hadn’t dared to aim too high. Now, with the Haijin Port teaching team gone, Qin Donglai planned to organize everyone to study it in earnest.

He also planned to send the recording to Wu Ting. He’d thought about Wu Ting’s absence from the training camp. ’Maybe as the head of the research center, he has an image to maintain,’ he mused. So, he decided to give Wu Ting the video privately to view as a learning resource.

Perhaps Wu Ting could learn a few techniques from it and master ERCP even before the rest of them.

After the teaching videos were copied, everyone exchanged hugs and words of encouragement. They promised to meet again for future exchanges and to continue learning from each other online, and then they saw the Haijin Port teaching team off.

Qin Donglai had a very high opinion of this first exchange week.

He looked forward to the upcoming exchange weeks, eager to experience the caliber of the expert teams from Xianglin City Xuanshang University Affiliated Hospital and the nation’s top-ranked Qinghe City Jiuhua Hospital.

He was confident that through this continuous process of exchange and learning, the City First Medical Research Center would steadily improve and become a true national-level research center for laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment technology, with comprehensive capabilities to match its title.

...

...

At the end of the week, Director Huo returned to the department.

The first thing he did was call a meeting.

First, Director Huo congratulated Wu Ting’s team on securing this year’s National Youth Fund grant.

Then, he announced some good news. After several days of external exchanges, scouting, and screening... Director Huo had already identified a candidate for the first round of high-level talent recruitment. The official announcement, however, would have to wait for the release of this year’s official membership list from the Jin Province Medical Association Surgery Branch.

”The talent we are bringing in this time is Associate Chief Physician Zhang Heng from Jin Province Tumor Hospital.”

”Associate Chief Physician Zhang Heng is a graduate of Qinghe City Jiuhua Hospital, where he trained under the Chief of Oncology. His current area of research is liver cancer.”

”Zhang Heng is young and accomplished. He has developed several surgical techniques related to laparoscopic liver cancer resection and has even secured a grant from the National Natural Science Foundation’s General Program. He is also set to become a member of the Jin Province Medical Association’s Oncology Branch. The final list isn’t public yet, but he was recommended by the current branch director, so it’s a done deal—just a formality at this point.”

”When Director Zhang comes to our City First Hospital’s research center for laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment, he will be bringing a project with him. He also plans to apply for another National Natural Science Foundation grant next year and will be applying for the Jin Province Science and Technology Progress Award. With Director Zhang on board, I believe our Emergency Department is on the cusp of being designated a provincial-level key specialty for laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment technology.”

”I’m giving all of you here a heads-up. After Director Zhang arrives with his project, we will be selecting a group of doctors from the Emergency Department, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and Oncology to join his team. Anyone who is interested can register with me.”

”Of course, in addition to our existing physicians, we will also fill some positions with our newly recruited doctors.”

Huo Yun clearly placed great importance on this Dr. Zhang Heng.

”After Physician Zhang Heng arrives at our City First Hospital Research Center, he will not only conduct research on key projects but also participate in the regular on-call shifts in our Emergency Department. Once we complete this expansion, our personnel structure will undergo a complete overhaul.”

Huo Yun’s words were, of course, meant for the ears of Qin Donglai, Wu Ting, Song Qi, and the others, giving them time to prepare.

’Bringing in such a heavyweight associate chief physician would definitely trigger a power reshuffle. Huo Yun would rely on Zhang Heng, but only to use his accomplishments for the key specialty designation. Qin Donglai, Wu Ting, and Jiang Ming remained his true inner circle.’

’However, this Zhang Heng was an extremely assertive individual, with the skills and an extraordinary background to back it up.’

’Huo Yun’s move was a risky one—a high-stakes gamble.’

’After all, in addition to a top-tier compensation package, Huo Yun had also made huge promises regarding Zhang Heng’s project funding.’

’It was highly likely that once Zhang Heng delivered results and helped the City First Hospital Emergency Department secure the key specialty designation, he would use that brilliant academic achievement—and the research center backed by three top-tier platforms—as a springboard to return to Qinghe City Jiuhua Hospital.’

Zhang Heng was willing to come mainly because of the research center’s backing from the three top-tier platforms, as well as the promised opportunity to collaborate with his mentor’s senior colleague, Professor Ma Mengchao.

’To put it bluntly, the arrangement between Zhang Heng and Huo Yun was purely a transactional one, an exchange of mutual interests.’

’Without a doubt, Zhang Heng’s arrival would be a disruptive force. He would be assertive, presenting both an opportunity for the research center and a challenge to its current hierarchy.’

’Huo Yun hoped his own core team could keep Zhang Heng in check and not let him usurp their authority.’

’Huo Yun’s greatest asset was, of course, Jiang Ming, who was away for advanced training. Next was Wu Ting, with his extraordinary potential; within the research center, Wu Ting held significant prestige and had the backing of the three major platforms. Finally, there was Qin Donglai—a bit mediocre, perhaps, but at least he was well-respected.’

After Huo Yun’s advance warning about this major personnel change, everyone in the department had their own thoughts on the matter.

Wu Ting, however, wasn’t concerned in the slightest. In fact, he was rather looking forward to it. ’After all,’ he thought, ’the more powerful the backer, the more amazing the entries I can get.’

Besides, Wu Ting was also preparing to go to Jinggang University for his postgraduate studies and to learn some surgical procedures in the cardiac surgery department at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.

Wu Ting was also extremely eager to see what kind of cutting-edge entries he could obtain from the top research prodigy, Professor Shen Siyuan!
